They're made in the US. Tennesse i think. the black carbon uses French technology, but not sure those are made in US.

What is the food grade varnish used?

I’m not certain what they used when initially making these utensils, but in the instructions that come with the utensils I believe it said they could be touched up with a little bit of oil such as cooking oil. I’ve used a little bit of olive oil and they look beautiful.

Manufacturer only to answer (consumers please dont guess/ give your opinions), is the finish specifically water-based or solvent-based lacquer?

The product uses raw lacquer, a milky-white, all-natural liquid coating harvested from the lacquer tree, as it was previously stated. It is non-toxic and harmless, and after coming into touch with air, it progressively turns brown.
