Do NOT buy this product for your marine tank!
Purchased this for setting up a new marine tank. Five 10lb bags of the damned stuff. Firstly, for a coarse aragonite it was much less coarse than it should have been (like you can get from other suppliers, like fishkeeper.co.uk) so not what we wanted as it will blow around the tank, but we thought we could add extra proper coarse aragonite to solve the issue and create a stable substrate. So we purchased extra aragonite from elsewhere because this stuff was not coarse enough. Secondly, it was an absolute pain to sieve and wash as there was so much silt in it. But most importantly, and most damning, was that it had lots of black bits in it. I'm not an expert on this stuff so just assumed that was what it should be like normally, and added it to the tank. However, when the man who maintains the tank came he was a bit concerned and did some tests. It turns out that the black bits are metal(!) - he used a magnet - and would corrode in a marine/saltwater aquarium. This would be catastrophic for the coral and fish. So we now need to drain the tank again, remove all the aragonite - including the extra proper coarse aragonite we had purchased to prop this stuff up - and replace it by buying the stuff we should have bought in the first place. The only upside for us is that at least we found this out whilst setting up the new tank, rather than putting it into an existing live tank, so for us the problem is only draining the tank, removing the aragonite and then starting again. If you have already added this to an existing tank I suggest you run a magnet over the substrate and see what you get.... This product will devastate a marine tank (and very probably do the same to freshwater tank).
