what is its shipping weight?

only about 3-4 lbs but the box is very large so the shipping companies look at the shipment as if it is much heavier. this is called "dim weight"

Is it battery operated?

No there are no batteries or any electronics, it's just a cone that you speak through

Can you paint over the word director?

It is a shiny slick cardboard. I would not try painting. I would recommend Crafter's tape or Duck masking tape on the inside wall as a test to check adhesion. If good, I would tape over wording. I know crafters comes in 2 widths, not sure about Duck masking.

what is the length of this megaphone?

It was purchased a while ago for a graduation party, but I think it was at least 14 in.

Originally I wanted to use the small megaphone famous for black and white silent films, but it was crushed in shipping, so I decided to get a sturdier megaphone and I'm glad I did. This will be my first puppet music video and let me tell you those puppets are really listening to me now! hahaha No serious this is a really sturdy megaphone and if it gets bent, just bend it back. I highly recommend this megaphone, because if you can't hear me when I use it then it's time for you to stop talking. lol

When you have this, you look like a movie Director. Juggling Taxi uses this in Las Vegas trip. I’m a creator and this is great for videos. Grateful football games or a birthday party. Just wanna have fun with your relatives.
