The Perfect Low-Maintenance Watch
The Casio AW81D is easily one of the best values in the Casio lineup. It perfectly balances a classic "steel" look with heavy-duty digital features. Why I love it: • 10-Year Battery: Truly a "set it and forget it" timepiece. • Ana-Digi Display: Best of both worlds, analog hands for quick reading and a digital screen for timers, alarms, and world time. • Comfort: Surprisingly lightweight and comfortable for all-day wear. • Features: The Telememo and World Time functions are incredibly useful for travel or storing quick reference notes. Bottom Line: If you want a durable, handsome, and feature-rich watch that punches way above its price point, this is it. It’s the ultimate reliable daily driver. Pros: Long battery life, versatile style, very lightweight. Cons: Vintage-style amber LED light (not a full backlight).

The watch itself is good, but the design is flawed
The watch itself is good, but the design is flawed because it is all blue; there is no way to tell the time at dusk or in a dimly lit room like mine (I’m not a fan of direct sunlight)—the time simply won't be visible. The backlight is so weak that if you activate it at night, you only see a faint ring around the edge of the watch face—like an eclipse—but you still can't see the time. The movement is undoubtedly good—10-year battery life!—so there are no complaints there, but if you don't have great eyesight, I wouldn't recommend it. I had to return mine; if only they had added luminous hands, it would make such a difference.

Great every day watch.
It has a nice face with digital date. The thing I like the most about it, it has a ten year battery. Great deal for the price.

Nice enough, but visibility a problem.
I have been using inexpensive Casio digitals for some twenty years now. I am a retired airline pilot and have always liked their multiple alarms, 24 hour clock, date readout and decent enough accuracy. This watch has the features I look for, with a bonus of the data storage and analog readout. I have only had this watch for five days and so far I like it. However, this is my second watch from this order. The first arrived in apparently good condition.....I read all the directions and set it up and it worked fine......for just four hours that is. Then it stopped and everything went blank. No combination of buttons could revive it. On a good note.....Amazon sent me a replacement that arrived just two days later, along with the shipping label to return the old one. So far, the new watch is working as expected. There are minor shortcomings however. The light that illuminates the dial is almost useless. You can see the glow of the analog hands, but that is the only thing visible.....with or without the light for that matter. If you want to read the watch at night, you will have to turn on a light, unless the glow from the analog hands is enough for you. The other visibility problem is reading the digital display....even with decent lighting. The digital display is viewable through a cutout in the analog face plate, and is small to begin with. The problem is that the cutout is not large enough, and the upper portion of the digital data is partially obscured at certain viewing angles. Sometimes the obscuration is worsened because the face plate casts a shadow over part of the digital readout. This problem is tempered by the fact that you still have the analog display as primary. Still, a minor nuisance. Another minor problem is the alarm volume. This has been a tendency of Casio for the last few years. I used to have a Telememo Data Bank that I used as my primary alarm. It would wake me up from a dead sleep over 90% of the time. The newer alarms wake me up less than 30% of the time. Again, a minor problem unless this watch is your primary alarm clock. The last point is about the ten year battery included. I have read that the ten year battery will only last ten years if you don't use the light or the alarm. Every time you use either, it reduces the life of the battery. My previous ten year battery barely lasted three years. All in all, I still like this watch......so far. I wish the backlight, visibility and alarm volume were better, but then it would be an almost perfect watch. Still a good buy for $22.

Attractive and inexpensive!
Very attractive and even though I had to use up all the band adjustment, the watch is always in a readable position even though it's still a bit loose. I think the size and shape keep it in a decent position. I also have the AW-80 which has a rubber band I detested. That the beauty of these inexpensive watches, you can change without a financial burden.

Very nice for casual common wear...! 😊
This has been my go-to, everyday knock around watch since I received it at my door...! 😏 Although, coordinating the settings of the analog and the digital clock can be a little tricky; but once you get past that, a real nice watch for casual common wear...! 😊

Nice Looking Watch Cheaply Made
I have worn Casio watches for decades. I've also worn Timex and other brands too. My previous watch was the Casio 10 year battery 708 MTP-3036A-2AV with the Cobalt Blue face. A quite nice heavy duty analog watch that had a full thick stainless steel case. Amazon still carried them up until earlier this year and now only carries the black faced watch by the model number MTP-3036A-1AV. I loved the old watch and it took a beating in my work but never a hiccup until the ten year battery died right at ten years. The watch was so worn I decided to look for another. The old one with a strong thick steel case at $25.00 was well worth the money. The only drawback to that watch was that it had no illumination for night viewing. Alas, it went away from Amazon even though it can still be found at other places and I may indeed go get one just because I liked it so much. But I needed a watch and liked the look of this one with a similar colored face. I won't go into great detail of the features since so many others have. I do find them fairly easy to set up and work, though that's not why I bought the watch. The greatest drawbacks to this watch is that it is made very flimsy. I guess ten years makes a lot of difference in quality. The "crystal" scratches easily so I had to take one of the clear cell phone screen protectors, cut it down and apply it to the face of the watch or it would have gotten destroyed in short order. It says the case is stainless steel. But I don't see it. The top section of the watch is a very thin pot-metal, maybe aluminum. But the worse part of the design is that the bottom side of the watch is plastic. Thin, light plastic. Ugh! That really is a let down and just won't make it for me as a work watch. So I will be buying another one of the old watches from somewhere else while it's still available and at the same time keep this watch for non-work wearing. I do like the night lights though they are not very bright like the Timex Indiglo are. One more thing. The watch ships with a huge wrist band, also made much lighter and more flimsy than the old one was. I have fairly large wrists and it was way too big for me. There are no instructions with the watch on how to reduce the size and they've changed the design on it from the old watch. But there are several good YouTube videos showing exactly how to take out links. Unfortunately, the process is simplistic but definitely not simply. It took me an hour to remove a link from both sides with needle-nose pliers and a jewelers screwdriver set. It was NOT easy. And it still was too big on my wrist. Since the clasp also has four settings to loosen or tighten the band, I set that to the tightest and it fits pretty good now though still a bit loose. Bottom line: The Casio AW81D-2AV is a very light weight, attractive watch with numerous handy features at a great price if you intend on wearing it out to dinner, church, a movie, even to the office. This watch will not hold up to a harsh work environment so be aware that it is very light weight.

Good watch with lots of functions
Decades ago I had to pay twice as much for a do nothing basic entry level analog watch. This one does a lot more and looks better. I like the stainless steel wrist band, because it is a lot more comfortable than the plastic ones. It is well worth paying slightly more for a watch with a stainless steel band. This watch gives me an alarm clock, a count down timer, and a stop watch. I almost brought a kitchen count down timer and an alarm clock, but now I don't need either of them. Saves me a lot of money and desk space. It does require me to read the owner's manual to take advantage of all these functions, but the manual is reasonably well written, unlike some of the manuals that come with computer peripherals. I was able to adjust the length of the wrist band by watching a YouTube video that shows me how. Is this watch perfect? Not at all. I would prefer a thinner one but it would be difficult to find one that has as many functions and is thinner for the same price I paid for this one. Another wish is for a watch face that is as scratch resistant as glass. I figure I can simply get a new one if the watch face is all scratched up if the price continues to stay so low.

Nice retro-looking feature-rich watch for the price, with a few trade-offs.
A great little watch I'm pretty happy with so far, after several months. On my 7 and 1/2 inch wrist it fits very nice. It feels slightly bigger than the stated 39mm case diameter, perhaps due to the case shape. Out of the box I didn't feel the need to remove any links, but after wearing it for a while and things loosening up slightly, removing 1 link has given me a perfect fit. Pros: -Nice design, unique case and crystal shape. Very funky and retro feeling, but it does have a little style to it as well. -All the useful features: 2 regular alarms and a snooze alarm, countdown timer, stopwatch, day and date on the home screen, world time functionality, hourly chime. I can't really find a use for the telememo function in today's world of smart phone contacts, but it's a novel retro gimmick. The nice part about all the functions of this watch is that while using any of them, you can always simultaneously read the current time via the hands. They will somewhat obstruct the digital screen at specific times, but since the hands are fairly thin, you're usually able to angle the watch slightly to see what you need during these times. -10 year battery. -Comfortable and light on wrist. -Buttons large and easy to use, but hard to accidentally press. Cons: -Unlike some other Casios and Gshocks, there is no setting to MUTE this watch's beeps that occur when pressing buttons to use the functions. It is possible to silence the watch entirely, including all alarms, by opening up the caseback and finding something to obstruct the speaker spring from connecting to the watch, but this is obviously not an ideal solution, so I deal with the beeps. -I would have liked to see 100m water resistance like with the similarly priced Casio AE1200, instead of the 50m on this watch, but 50m is still fine. -As others have mentioned, since the crystal is acryllic, not mineral, and is domed, it is more prone to picking up scratches. from what I understand scratches on acryllic crystals can be buffed out using polywatch or possibly even toothpaste, but I haven't accrued any major enough scratches to want to try yet. My advice is to just be careful and try not to bump the front of the watch against anything too hard. This is a tradeoff I'm personally ok with, considering what you get is a nice retro-looking domed crystal for relatively cheap. -the backlight is not bright, but it is serviceable. In low light it does give off enough light from around the dial so you can make out both the hands, AND what is shown on the digital display, even though the digital display does not light up itself. -the lume appears pretty weak to me, especially on the numbers and dots around the dial. On the watch hands the lume is stronger, but is still only really noticeable in complete darkness, not in low light. -Like many affordable Casios, the case is of course plastic, colored to match the bracelet, which is actual stainless steel. Another acceptable tradeoff when considering the price. I would recommend watching a youtube video explaining how to set the time initially as it is a bit confusing at first, but becomes easier with practice.
