Q: Will 2 group 27 deep cycle batteries fit in this box? The given diminsions are a bit fuzzy compared to what other commenters have said.

I just purchased this battery box (Model 484) and it fits 3 Group 27 batteries with about an inch space between them.

Q: can i set on the lid, will it support 300lbs.

The lid is flexible and will crush down to the top of batteries. I have actually stood on mine without any issues.

Q: What holds the lid on? Could it be used on a trailer's tongue? Would it stay semi dry?

if you look at the pic there are 2 screw in star handles that screw the lid down. if you mount one on tongue you'll have to mount to plywood etc. first. yes seems to stay dry. The one you are asking about is for an 8D. That's a big heavy battery. These units are custom designed to fit the application. The one I bought is for two 6 volt batteries. hope that helps.

I've never used these containers for their intended purpose so I really can't answer that question. But I can say that you should be able to fit two 100AH AGM batteries in one of these containers and have adequate room left over.
