Better than CritterTrail for larger hamsters
I've had a few hamsters now, and have tried a few different cages and tubing systems. I've tried CritterTrail tubes and Super Pet Puzzle Playgrounds. The CritterTrail tubes are a bit tight for large hamsters like Syrian hamsters. The Puzzle Playground have big elbows however the snap together frames are fiddley and come apart after a few reconfigurations. Once my Syrian chewed his way thru a frame and the whole structure collapsed. These Habitrail Ovo pieces are very sturdy and yet are easy (for humans) to take apart. The locking ring does take a bit of getting used to however once you get the hang of it, it's a really nice system. My current hamster has "itchy teeth" and chews a lot, but so far the plastic has held up well. She is also an escape artist but again so far she has not escaped from this system. I agree with other reviewers that the water bottle from the Ovo system is a joke, I can't see how a hamster can use it unless they lie on their back. Overall I really like the Ovo system, it's easy to assemble, very secure and study, and easy for me to take apart and clean. I especially like the den unit, my hamster uses it for sleeping yet it's easy for me to watch her as she sleeps. Recommended! UPDATE May 22, 2012: Now that my hamster is bigger (full grown) she uses the transport unit as her bedroom and uses the den as her potty. I have added a second den unit and she uses that one for food storage. This is great because it makes cleanup easier (via the removeable tray in the potty den), and I can look in the 2nd den to see how much food she has stored before I give her more.

"Adventure Pack" - bought 1, then another, will buy s'more
Disclosure: bought for substantially less as an Amazon Warehouse item. I didn't want to pay full-price for this. When I saw one come up for less due to a damaged box item, I took the plunge. There are two "outhouse" globes - both larger than I thought. This also comes with a nifty 5-way cube connector, one T-joint, two elbows, and two larger straight T-joints. I've found it a challenge to find a use for the large T's, but the other ones get used sometimes. The mice seem to avoid the larger globe, but 3 of them sometimes crammed into the smaller one to sleep. Another cosmetically damaged one came up and I bought it - it was cracked at the joint, but once assembled, fully functional. What I found is that one of my pregnant Mom's preferred to turn this into her nest - and dragged bedding from all over to completely fill the globe. She birthed the babies in a "Habitrail OVO Maze". When she found this smaller globe, she moved bedding from all over the cage overnight and culled her litter down to 2 - and moved the 2 to the globe. I can see then kicking around while I took the pictures for this review. I tried 7 different outhouses for my mice. I am keeping all of them and leaving reviews for each one. Four are from Habitrail , 2 are from Crittertrail, and 1 is from Tiny Tales (The Tiny Tales one isn't on Amazon, but only at PetSmart - short story on that one is it's spacious, but has the opening at the bottom). The good thing about both globes that came with the Adventure pack is that the entrance is higher than the floor - rather than coming right through the bottom of the floor. The mother mouse probably realized her babies could easily fall down the hole in the Maze and moved them once she was aware of the globe. The other outhouse I have with a side entrance is the "Kaytee CritterTrail Fun-nel Small Animal Outhouse" and another mother chose that as her nest - although she birthed them in there and didn't cover the entire structure with bedding. Although the Habitrail globe has air holes, I see condensation on the inside. The Kaytee one has no air holes, but so far, I see no fogging up inside that one. Since the floor is below the horizontal entrance way - making the bedding inside naturally stay inside unless the critters purposefully try to dig it out Some of the other outhouses have the entrance from the bottom - which makes the others naturally have the bedding fall through the entrance. The other ones could also have babies wander and fall down the tube - probably why one mother chose to move hers after culling to this one and the other chose the Kaytee. The big globe seems to be too large for the mice's comfort. I have found that mice prefer cramped spaces when given the choice between a large spacious >1000 sq in cage, >500 sq in cage, or even the >150 sq in ones by Habitrail or Kaytee and the like. When they get into the big spaces, they get disoriented and uncomfortable and zip around from side to side and quickly exit. My mice have access to very large spaces in multiple cages, and prefer to spend most of their time - and birth in cramped spaces like the smaller globe. Some of them even prefer the 5 way connecting cube that came with this kit - sometimes I'll see two of them cramped in the cube and sleeping - there is one male mouse that prefers to spend most of his time awake in the 5 way cube - he will traverse long distances to the food accessible through the large open area cage - and bring back one or two pieces of food to the small cramped cube - then eat it - then repeat. The Habitrail connecting rings are very secure - but also very tricky to secure and use correctly. If the rings included are not secured or used correctly, the structure falls apart with the slightest lateral movement. I still haven't been able to master the use of the Habitrail connecting rings - some of them don't seem to engage at all - are they will grip one tube, but not the other. I prefer the Kaytee or Tiny Tales connecting rings - they are more difficult to affix and detach than the Habitrail, but they are also more secure and there is no question if it's connected correctly. If another one goes up on Amazon Warehouse, I'm getting it.

Excellent starter to hamster cage extensions
I bought this about a month ago and I highly recommend this package. This is great to start yourself and your Syrian hamster with tubes, pods and other extensions. Buying a whole set can be daunting with the prices and this was a great deal. My hamster, Pebbles, is in a bin cage and I simply have the tubes leading up and out into the carrier with the den connected at the end. Pebbles LOVES this!! She has made the green den her sleeping area which is awesome because that leaves more space in the bin cage for toys. It looks like she is in a little space ship in there. It is fun to watch her go up and down tubes especially when carrying her treats and toys. So cute! This makes me want to buy more pieces to add on. The pods are very easy to clean which is nice because my hamster does all her peeing in the blue carrier. That is another plus because the bedding in the bin cage doesn't get soiled as fast. YUSH! The only downside to this is understanding how the pieces go together. I couldn't believe that the package DID NOT come with instructions on how to assemble the parts. No booklet, nothing on the box. I was able to figure out the tubes and green den pretty quickly but not the blue carrier. Seriously, it took me nearly half an hour fiddling around with the parts! I couldn't understand which was front, back, top, or bottom with the blue lid. Then suddenly it popped in place somehow and I have no idea how it happened! Also the twisting connectors are a bit confusing. I don't understand really how they connect or seal the tubes and pods together. It is nice that I can twist the tubes around to different directions but sometimes that will release the connection and the tube pops off. Is there a way to lock it in so that way I can change the direction of the tubes without disconnecting them? After trying a couple times it connects back on so it's not a big deal. It all stays together very well and my hamster is able to venture out of her bin cage without running loose. I am looking forward to finding more parts and planning various extensions that I can make for Pebbles. Oh, the carrier and pod are awesome for transporting your hamster when traveling. I simply put the den and carrier together with the exit closed off. Pebbles went with me to the grocery store and she fell asleep. Such a sweetie :3

Do not hesitate, just buy this now!
I have a Habitrail OVO Studio set for a hamster, and I wanted to have some additional tunnels and rooms for my daughter's little guy. Looking for Habitrail indiviudal pieces was very discouraging because of the relatively high price. It could cost quite a lot to buy a bunch of spare parts to replace broken ones or to add on to a hamster set. For the price (I paid about $18 with tax) you absolutely cannot beat the contents of this set as an addition to your Habitrail. Just look at hte picture and you will see that you get: 1 - 6"carrier with a handle that can be used as a medium sized room in the habitat 1 - small "den," which despite it's roughly 4"diameter is my hamsters new favorite place 1 - cube with five open sides and one permanent "window" (that should be the bottom of the piece) 3 - 90 degree elbows 2 - 10" long straight tubes with a side passage hole 1 - standard T-shape tunnel 5 - snap-on "windows" to plug tunnel ends or openings and 10 (Yes TEN!) - connecting rings. This is enough to add all the pieces in this set to an existing Habitrail. I usually don't list parts like this, but I wanted to emphasize how much value you really do get for the cost of this set. I don't believe that it is enough to make a complete habitat (it is intended for use with a main large "maze" and you will need a water bottle piece. With a little creative effort you can definitely add a nice side passage and a couple of cozy hiding places to an existing habitat. Also, I broke one of the locking rings used to connect tunnel pieces, and this kit offers a nice number of parts for replacements. I still have to leave one tunnel piece out of my set (I am short one ring to join it to the set), but for the cost of 6-9 rings (when bought as 3-packs) I got all the stuff listed above. Why you should love this set: -You could use this set as a temporary home for your animal while giving his big house a nice thorough cleaning -You can replace broken parts of another set with parts from this one and still have some extra goodies -This set can add 2 nice rooms to an existing Habitrail (one medium and one small) -if you buy a water bottle piece, a large "maze" and one of the "gym" wheels, you can have a decent full set-up for a reasonable price -our hamster loves his new tunnels and rooms. . . maybe yours will too What I don't like abou tthis set: -my hamster chews on some of the plastic parts, which will eventually wear them out, and I am not sure if he is eating tiny bits of plastic (I hope not) -It can be frustrating trying to link together a bunch of different kits because you have to be creative in how you arrange them to get them to link together right (seriously, having extra parts is a must) -The connections between tunnels are not super strong and tight. They will stay closed, but if there is even a little weight on an elevated tunnel it will slowly fall down from the force of gravity. It is not a big problem, but a concern that means you have to be careful as you design tunnels (make sure they are supported) I am still giving five stars because this set is a great value and I love the entire line of OVO products. The negative items are only here becuase I thought they were worth mentioning. I still highly recommend this line and this set. NOTE: This is sized for a larger hamster. At this price I was concerned it would be "dwarf" size, but it is full size OVO tunnels. Big enough for teddy bear hamsters (large mouse size) and definitely not big enough for rats or guinea pigs. I don't know if the little dwarf hamsters can use tunnels this size (I think they may be too big), but I know that Habitrail has a line of "dwarf OVO" stuff for them. Not sure if anyone else is confused about this.

Great Pieces at a Great Price
This pack has been a wonderful addition to my Ovo system. The little green pod is a bit of a snug fit for my Syrian, but she enjoys tight spaces for sleeping. The blue transport pod is much larger than I had anticipated, and offers a lot of space for burrowing and hiding a good cache of treats. It does also lock very securely, so I wouldn't hesitate using it as a carrier for vet visits. The tubes are great quality, plenty large enough for a Syrian, and perfectly suitable for dwarf breeds when used horizontally (they'll have a hard time climbing vertically in these, since they are so large). And I cannot sing enough praises for the locking tube connectors - my Syrian had escaped from her Crittertrail habitats/tubes three times due to poor fitting connections. She has not had any success in escaping this system. Further, Amazon has this set at an incredibly good price. Definitely grab one!

Beware of poor design
So, up until today I would have given this 5 stars. I used this in conjunction with some other sets and pieces and we have a nice habitat for our syrian. There is a little bit of a learning curve to put the pieces together and yes, taking it all apart to clean is a pain.. But it was a good set. Good value for what it comes with and our syrian loved it. She can easily crawl through everything. We liked it a lot. Until today. The little hideout is very very poorly constructed. The bottom piece simply slides on to the part that connects to the cage or other tubes, so when you open it, there's a real possibility it can just fall right off. Or, when your kid doesn't properly click it back together after opening it (which is tricky to begin with) the bottom could literally just fall off if the hamster is inside and towards the outside edge.. And the hamster will fall/escape. And in my case, it found it's way into the oven and ruined it. The same failure happened to my kids' stepsister a few weeks ago, but I blamed them not putting it together correctly. Turns out this thing is just dumb in its design. In the picture you can see how it slides on. I ended up gluing it in, so it can't fall off. So, just an FYI, you may need to do the same.

Perfect for Syrian Hamster!
When my niece moved our of state from my mother's home, she asked if I could take her. When I received her, all she had was the blue cage she's in-in this photo, a broken wheel, and an exercise ball with no lid, and her blue plastic house. There was nothing for her to do to exercise, so all she did was sleep. I immediately thought about purchasing the Habitrail OVO Adventure Pack . I read in a few reviews, this piece would not work on cages other than the OVO unless you buy extra parts. For my particular cage I had to buy one extra tee. Since the holes in her cage are on the top, rather than on the sides, we had to manipulate the tubes to fit. (I did opt out of the water bottle). We had ours completely assembled in about 20 minutes flat. I had a bit of an issue with a few of the pieces. for example... The big ball on the top, I couldn't figure out how to get the dark blue piece to snap on, Here the snaps are on the inside! It does snap in place, you have to put the outter pieces inside and on the outter lining of the inside hole, there are little snaps you will hear them click when it's in place. There were a few other tubes that were in half that kept falling apart while I was putting the locks on, but otherwise, pretty self-explanatory (I used the pictures on the box for reference). Butter is a female Syrian Hamster and fits in this great. At first I thought she was too fat for the tubes as you can see in a few of my images, however I seen her turn herself completely around mid-tube without getting stuck. She was a bit hesitant at first, but I have found she now absolutely loves the two ball parts. I put bedding in them both since she kept laying in them, and she has been kicking the bedding back out of the little circle down the tubes, and into her regular cage. I also purchased the Habitrail Cristal Cage (Hers just seemed too small, and I thought it would all be in at the same time, but I still have not got the new cage. However, since I found it does fit on her current cage, I think i'm buying a second set of the Habitrail OVO Adventure Pack and connecting the two cages to give her more room to run around. She has been in her tubes for the past 2 hours straight now, and doesn't look like she's planning to stop anytime soon! I would highly recommend this pack to all hamster owners! 5/5 Stars!

The transport unit looks cute and works fine. It is the only usable part in this ...
The water bottle leaks. It leaks even after I put a roll ball inside the round bottle. It is also very difficult for hamster to drink in such a small area. Also, the tube surface is too smooth and too difficult for my dwarf hamster to climb. Everytime my hamster trying to climb, it falls hardly. However, my dwwarf hamster climbs very well on Kaytee's tubes. The transport unit looks cute and works fine. It is the only usable part in this package.

The hampster loved it
I bought this for a hamster that was constantly chewing the bars and wanting to get out. It loved this addition and the very day i assembled it the hamster made itself a bed in the top pod, it enjoyed running up and down the tubes. It improved it's quality of life. However ( and this is not a fault of the item) I put some food in the bottom pod and didn't close it properly. The hamster escaped and sadly we never saw it again.( that was around 8 months ago.) It was completely my fault and could happen with any cage, but just a warning to be very vigilant, clip it shut, it's easily done and I was quite upset by it. But a very good product, durable, thick plastic, excellent fittings that clip it all together. I recommend it. Just don't do what I did.
