I am going to disagree with the negative reviews of this book. Robert Lang in his introduction, explains what he thinks of as limitations of the book - some of those being that he had limited or no access to the actual pieces, and that the plans were developed in part by some educated guessing. The book itself is very nicely printed on heavy gloss paper, with a number of color photographs - really a very nice book. There is quite a lot of introductory material - much more than in his other measured drawings books. I think that this book should be used in conjunction with the Darrel Peart books, and other material, such as the many photograph collection books on Greene and Greene.

I bought this book as a companion to Darrell Peart's book on how to make the details. If you are going to replicated any of the designs you will need both books. This book has many more shop drawings and details that you will not find in Mr. Peart's book and it also has many more pieces of furniture to look at and see how the Greene & Greene details changed itself over time but the common style areas remained the same. The detailed dimensions and shop drawings are invaluable if your are thinking of making any pieces within this style, because the dimensions are what makes the style unique. I think that's why I have been drawn to make some of these pieces as you can create your own details within the style and everyone would recognize the Greene & Green influence.

I was expecting a book showing the drawings for some furniture pieces. Boy was I surprised. There are excellent drawings of course, but Lang also delves into the history of the times as well as the Greene brothers. Then there is some excellent material on how to actually build the 23 pieces that are shown along with photographs and shop hints. If you are interested in duplicating some of this fine work, get this book!

Great Book, with sketches of Greene and Greene furniture. If you wanted to you could build from these drawings.

I am a retired old guy who has developed a real love for the Greene & Greene style furniture. I build furniture for family and friends and almost all pieces have some or all of the Greene Brother's styling. This book has a good narrative about the Greene Brother's, quality photos, and outstanding detailed plans. If you love Arts & Crafts furniture design, this book must be on your shelf for ready reference.

Wonderfully put together showing plans, techniques, and some history. Bought this because I've been looking for some instruction in doing some Greene & Greene projects. This is the one that will put me on line.

This is a very good book. I own it and all the companion books by Lang. I have used them to construct furniture, like Stickley tables, chairs, and case goods. There are some dimension errors and details are a bit lean but the overall dimensions are useful and with some common sense you can build the furniture in this book. But this is not a how-to book of furniture plans. It would be great if Lang would produce individual plans with details but . . .

An excellent book; Lang's drawings are clear, and give all the information necessary.

This book is roughly in 2 parts. The first half discussed various design features and how you might go about making them. The second half is literally very detailed shop drawings of furniture pieces.

As the title suggests, very much in the American tradition of Arts and Crafts rather than the British. It has been very useful for assisting me generate ideas for my own pieces.
