Update: I was able to get a replacement mouse, I will not be using the included batteries this time! It's a great mouse otherwise. I have been really happy with both SteelSeries mouses that I have used, both this Rival and also the Prime. I picked the Rival for wireless due to the dual mode choice of either using bluetooth OR the included dongle. The wireless version of the Prime seemed to only have the dongle option. I pair the bluetooth to my laptop and plug the dongle into my desktop for quick and easy switching. Original review: I was really liking this mouse, the dual wireless modes were great. One day I went to use it and it didn't work. I normally ONLY use high end lithium batteries since old fashioned alkaline batteries always explode or leak. I had used the included batteries in a pinch and sure enough, they had exploded, ruining the mouse. Don't use the included batteries.

I used a very small mouse before getting this mouse. It's definitely a big improvement, I don't feel any pain even after being on my computer for multiple hours. I only have 2 problems. One is the connection, it goes to sleep, and you have to click a button for it to wake up, and it takes a few seconds to do so, it doesn't sound bad but it does get annoying with misclicks and trying to find your pointer if you have multiple screens. The second problem is the battery, if you don't turn on the battery-saving mode with the app, the mouse will only last you a little less than a month.

I'm not a gamer but I appreciate gamer mice for their responsiveness and configurability. I use this mouse with Windows at work and Mac at home. The positives: * I love that there is an onboard slot for stowing the 2.4 Ghz adapter. That makes it easier to travel with. * The mouse is responsive compared to my Logitech MX Master 3S. * The mouse is big enough to not make my hand cramp. * The mouse is inexpensive. The negative: The vendor’s instructions for Mac users are poor. You must connect the mouse via 2.4 GHz for the GG software to detect it. It doesn’t work via Bluetooth. Overall: I wanted was a cheap, quality, wireless mouse for office work and that's what I got.

PROS: none CONS: 400 hour battery life is an outright lie - you'd be lucky to get 100 hours out of high quality lithium (non-rechargeable) AAAs. The mouse constantly drops connection to the USB receiver if it's more than 2 feet away, and any physical object blocking line of sight means it will never connect to begin with. The SteelSeries "GG engine" for changing mouse settings is ATROCIOUS; half of the settings flat out did not work, the UI is very poorly designed as some buttons were covered by other elements... on a 1080p screen (it seems the software was designed by people who only use 4k screens because anything lower than that breaks things), and settings such as macros are unavailable unless you make a steelseries account and give them personal information. I was completely unable to rebind 3 buttons on the mouse, several other people have reported the exact same issue with the side buttons being stuck as mouse4 and mouse5 no matter what they do inside the software. As far as gaming goes, the mouse constantly stutters and misses small movements if it's not sitting almost on top of the USB receiver. It's not a joke to say a mouse with a 3 foot USB cable would be more useful. Please avoid this mouse at all costs, there are many better options from better companies. Steelseries has been so far unresponsive with their customer service, essentially stating the issue must be user error. I've never had any issues with logitech or corsiar mice or their relevant software, and I even have experience using 3rd party software with those mice as well. If you search online you will find hundreds of different people all having similar issues with many steelseries products, namely the software is constantly breaking and the customer support is possibly the poorest of any company that makes computer peripherals. You'd be better off with a no-name brand $12 wireless mouse than this overpriced waste of plastic.

BLUF: for the simple fact that this mouse works as well as much more expensive mice on the market, you're definitely getting a deal (I bought mine for a little under $20) I've been using this mouse for everything, from daily navigation in the Windows OS to playing video games that require accuracy and precision. All pass with flying colors. Good construction, sturdy and weighty feel to it. Works on multiple types of surfaces. Buttons have a short and "clicky" draw, and a high-DPI that works well with high-refresh monitors. Like many other performance mice, the DPI can be changed on the fly with a small and easily accessible button on top of the mouse, just behind the scroll wheel. Not too small as to make it feel like you're tickling a small rodent while using it, but compact enough to fit securely in the smaller pockets of a backpack or briefcase. I also appreciate the connectivity options; I can either use it with the micro-USB dongle provided or, in the alternative, tie directly through Bluetooth if I'm running short on USB-A ports. No external ports, so there is no hardwiring or recharging option tied to the computer, but I have a strong preference for wireless mice anyway. With Bluetooth, it also means I can use the mouse in cross-platform situations (eg. having mouse support for an Android tablet). The mouse uses standard AAA batteries (x2), and supports rechargeable AAA batteries as well. This greatly extends the power lifespan of the mouse. If I ever find myself with dead batteries, I can easily replace them with my stock on hand, or remedy this by going to just about any convenience store out there. In theory, this mouse can last quite a while since it isn't powered by a rechargeable and non-removeable li-ion battery, which would eventually lose its ability to keep an optimal charge. The scroll wheel has RGB lighting effects running the length of the wheel, and with the additional utility software (doesn't come included, needs to be downloaded for free from Steelseries' website) you can change the colors and behavior of the glow while in use. I myself am not overly concerned about making my mouse akin to a disco ball -- but hey, you do you. I'm perfectly happy using it with the stock settings applied. All things considered, I'm definitely happy with my purchase. If you're in the market for a new mouse, or simply want to keep one as a spare, you can't go wrong with this one. Cheers!

I love the mouse for it's form, weight, and the feeling overall. It's really solid. I hate this mouse because of multiple flaws that just drive me crazy. 1. It loses bluetooth connection with my OSX at least twice per week. I need to turn it on/off to reconnect. 2. It catches some dust or the sensor is just glitchy, so cursor slowly drifts away, and I need to blow inside of the sensor or shake it. Happens 3-4 times per week. 3. After 6 months of using, scroll wheel started to slip. It just goes other direction in 5% of scrolls. Ugh... Gonna try Aerox 3 after this one, hopefully it's higher quality.

I bought this because my favorite mouse, the Rival 310 is discontinued and my current one is starting to wear out. I thought this would be a good wireless alternative since it's the same series and has the same general profile. I still like the size, shape and weight of the mouse, but that doesn't do much when the performance isn't great. I prefer to use mice with their dongles to save battery, since it does not have a self-contained rechargeable battery. But good god, I have never seen a mouse with such terrible problems maintaining a connection with its receiver. There are times where I am working or playing a game, when the connection drops completely, requiring me to power cycle my mouse and reseat the dongle's connection. Thankfully I've had much better performance out of using BT. Again, as much as I like the mouse for it's ergonomics, it is so poorly made. My I had several Rival 300's and 310's, which were super solid and well-made. This mouse feels flimsy, and I feel like it just uses much cheaper materials. I've had it about a month and about a week ago I starter to notice the mouse wheel squeaks when scrolling, and I'm not sure how long that's actually been going on. TLDR: Looks nice and similar shape to other rival mice, but feels low quality ranging from the feel to the hardware components themselves. 2/5
