A must read
One of the best books I have ever read about psychology. The author covers a wide range of mental issues and explains in details the origins of those traumas. For curious people and people that wish to better understand human psychology itโs definitely a book to read.

Great book. Well written. Informative, descriptive.
Great book. Well written. Informative, descriptive. Looks at the big picture. The problems in society, the medical profession, it's challenges and potential solutions for practitioners, teachers, nurses, law enforcement and most of all patients who have suffered trauma. You can tell the author cares about his work and especially his patients and the children of this world. His empathy is palpable. I would highly recommend this book. Where you can tend to understand the world of traumatized individuals.

Good but needs a content warning.
I devoured this book. While many people think of or see trauma as solely a big event, they fail to remember that there is little t trauma as well (neglect, dysfunctional emotional instability/neglect from parental figures, death of loved ones, bullying, and more). While I have experienced both little t and big T trauma. I found the information rather compelling and telling. Bessel uses language that many people can understand and threads in all the evidence that supports the claims of helping young children cope with places they cannot get out of. I understand what it is like to have a life where you cannot escape, and the consequences of what that life can create from both parental figures and other family members. However, this book isn't about *blaming* your parents but about understanding trauma and where it truly comes from. How to use what nature and science have provided us (not just handing someone pills expecting them to get better) to truly heal the emotional, and even the brain waves that contribute to a life lived after chronic trauma. It talks about PTSD in war vets, children, and women. It talks about hard topics, such as incest, and there should be a *content warning* for those who need it. It's not for the faint of heart. I am thankful for this book, and I hope to look through the continued reading he has provided.

Eye opening book
Trauma touches plenty of people worldwide (way too many, sadly); it affects our brain, behavior, emotions, decisions, social interactions and of course, as the title of the book states, "the body keeps the score". Dr. Bessel van der Kolk shares such valuable and intriguing information about trauma and the long and complex healing process, I wouldn't even be able to pick the most important parts, as everything written is so interesting and useful to know. I learned a lot; just to make an example, irrational behaviors of traumatized people I encountered in the past started to make sense while I was reading, because trauma can make people act in ways that look illogical from the outside. It has also been very helpful to better decipher myself, my own brain and my reactions to specific situations. I wouldn't say, even if I had some, that previous knowledge in psychology and psychiatry is required to comprehend this book, as the author is very skilled when it comes to explaining difficult concepts in a clear and understandable way. Even if you haven't experienced trauma yourself, it's more than likely someone close to you, unfortunately, has; this book can be really helpful to better understand how trauma works, how it can make people feel like they don't even exist, and you might find the explanation to others' actions and responses that you considered unreasonable, exaggerated, disproportionate or aggressive. Needless to say, I obviously recommend this book!
