Does the noise cancelling work while listening on 3.5? I like to use it on a plane listening to plane movie and cancelling the engine noise.

I returned the ones I got because of the very poor noise cancelling qualities. Definitely wouldn't help much on a plane.

I haven't used my with podcasts but I don't think you can control the skip distance, i.e., seconds back or forward. As I understand it, the functionality you want isn't there.

How does the active noise-cancelling compare to the Bose products? Do these make an airplane or car or train ride really quiet, like the Bose would?

This really depends on the model. Bose over ear anc is better if you really want to block out other sound.

I don't think so. Callers have heard me chewing an apple. You may want to take a look at the owner's manual on the web.
