Jamie's Comfort Food

I've got many many Jamie Oliver books, but this is the best one - in fact, I'm gonna throw it out there - it's my favourite cookbook EVER and I have a sh*t tonne of cookbooks. It's indulgent, inspired, inspiring and foolproof. Yes the recipes are in-depth, no they aren't speedy, nor healthy, but boy oh boy are they worth it. He pushes each recipe to the limits and finds clever ways to add flavour and punch, in even the most simple of recipes (who knew a cheese toasty could be so sexy). You wanna impress a crowd - this is your book. I couldn't recommend this book enough. Worth every penny.

The recipes are not quick nor are they budget, but they're pretty awesome. For example hubby loves the shepherds pie which is actually made with a shoulder of lamb, slow roasted and then picked off the bone. It is an extremely indulgent adaption of shepherds pie! We make it a lot and it is indulgent but tastes fab and whole family love it. And the recipe is a double portion, so the meat is frozen in the gravy and the veg (excluding mash) is frozen in it's cooking juices. Tastes just as good as the freshly cooked portion.There is a good selection of recipes, complex, time consuming but worth the effort. Jamie does say in the introduction that the book is not for those wanting quick, lower cost meals, rather, it is comfort food.

I bought this after watching his series on this... but the way he makes it seems as simple as 1, 2, 3.... until I tried to do it myself.Therefore, I would have much preferred to have the DVD version of this, so I could follow him in action, step-by-step, in my kitchen... if only to see where I was going wrong sometimes!?But lovely, spoil-yourself-rotten recipes (esp. burger and toastie...mmmmmm!), on a cold Winters night! :-)

I love this Jamie book. I think it's my fav. Every recipe looks amazing and the instructions are so easy to follow. We've done quite a few already. It truly is comfort eating. You think you know how to make a grilled cheese sandwich? Think again. Only when you've made JO's grilled cheese, can you really make one!

I really love this - it's my fave type of Jamie book as it's full of yummy inspiration.Yes it's not healthy food driven but you can still be eating good cosy yummy natural food you have cooked yourself. Which can be healthy.There are so many good idea - and twists and combinations for ingredients.Very fat book too which is great.
