Hi! As far as I'm aware this should hold up outside in the weather. If you are using it for long-term use outside then it might be worth taking a look at threads that are specifically designed (UV treated, etc) for the job. I hope this helps!

I wish to put a button back on a thick sofa back that is bulging. So, it needs to be strong. How strong is this? Can you break it with your hands?

It’s very strong I use it for book binding but it’s purpose is for upholstery, Saddlery and heavy fabrics. Yo can’t cut it by hand you will need scissors. Hope this was if some help to you.
