what is the active ingredient? is it amorolfine?

I believe the active ingredient is lactic acid. My recollection from Intro to Biology is that lactic acid is an enzyme that dissolves keratin.

Do you apply this and then put a band aid over it and change it every day?

You wash the nail and apply it once a day. No band-aid. I applied it just like Teri did, at night just before bed.

Is it better if you do not polish your nails

You can use breathable nail polish!

does it help to prevent toe nail from splitting?

Im not sure I only used it for some cracks and creases that I had on the upper layer, this worked for me to remove the upper layer and now my nails are flat and like new again.
