Does this redirect the heat/air to the top or to the side?

Neither. My air was going straight up & causing my paper towels (on wall holder above air vent), to unroll. My vents are on the floor. The air continues to come up and the deflector stops it from all going straight up and directs it straight out at floor level. The second one I purchased was for a vent below a window which was because my window was fogging up (not good for the window), so the air no longer goes straight up to the window (so air is redirected straight out into the room). I am glad I purchased these as they do what I wanted and my vents are metal so the magnets hold them in place nicely. They are clear plastic so they look just fine.

Does this work on wall AC vents?

probably not. It is held in place by magnets on the bottom. Not likely strong enough to keep this on the wall - unless you used something like Gorilla 2-sided tape. That might work

Will this work on a GE large window ac

you might be able to make it work but the case around the vent should be metal because they use magnets to hold this on . you might be able to reconfigure it i don't know !!

Height is 4 5/8 inches when measured on a flat surface. However, if measured when properly sitting on the heating grate, they are 4 1/2 inches. Hope this helps
