How does this product compare to chamois butt'r?

It actually works. It heals as it relieves and I use it after my shower and it heals over night. I did Peak2Peak a few years ago. It's a charity ride from mammoth to big bear. 342 miles in 5 days. Ride glide saved me. I was using chamois butter the first two days. One of the other riders offered me some ride glide. AMAZING. Seriously. I won't use anything else again. It takes most of the pain away to finish a ride and heals so you can sit without pain.

How does it smell? any men using this. i am kind of tired of pay 17$ for chamois buttr'

It's a nice smell. This product was developed for women but try it out. It's light, fragrant. See if you like it. Knock on wood, but I never had a dermatological reaction after I started using this.

Does this stay wet/greasy (thinking of desitin-type creams) or does it dry for a more sheer touch?

That depends on how much you put on as to how long it stays wet feeling. It has a cooling sensation which feels nice riding on warm days and on long rides. Its more like rubbing on an aloe gel but without that dried out skin feeling after it dries. I just started using it last year and it has relieved and protected more than I imagined. I don't go on 10+mile rides without it.
