In-Shower Style Fixer - Vegan Extreme Hold Styling Gel for Dry, Wavy, Curly or Coily Hair (8oz)

I’ve gone through sooo many curl gels, and this one is easily one of my favorites. The hold is super strong, but somehow my hair still feels soft after I scrunch it out. No weird crunch or stiffness once it dries, just really defined curls that actually last all day. Big bonus—it really helps with frizz. My shoulder length curly hair usually puffs up by mid-day, but this keeps everything looking way more under control, even when it’s humid. Also doesn’t flake or get gross when I layer it with my other products, which I appreciate. A little goes a long way too, so the bottle lasts forever. Honestly just a really solid gel that does what it’s supposed to do. Definitely a go-to for me now.

I have 3a - 3b fine/medium hair. I first tried out this product about a year and a half ago. I was transitioning into wearing my hair naturally curly after years of straightening so in the beginning my hair would take hours to style just to get it to look decent. So if a product didn’t give good hold or didn’t make my curls for at least a few days it would be very frustrating. As soon as I tried this gel, I was in love. It has incredible hold, so you get definition and shine that lasts for days. Yes it can leave a cast on your hair when it first dries, but as soon as it’s 100% dry you can break the cast. You can do this by scrunching or picking it out. Or you can use a hair oil or hair serum (like two drops), rub it between your hands and then use your hands to scrunch your hair to break the cast. After that, the curls are shiny and soft without any sticky feeling or residue. It does not weigh your hair down too much, it smells fantastic, and a little goes a long way. So one tube lasts a long time for me. And I kid you not, it will continue to look great after 3-4 days, which I don’t usually go much longer than that without washing because I workout and sweat a lot. It’s funny, in the year and a half since I tried this product I would go and try something else just because I saw a product that looked interesting, and I think I’ve tried 10 other products at one time or another and some would work ok but almost always I wouldn’t get the same results. So now I call this gel “Ol’ Reliable” because the results are consistent every single time I use it. And I get compliments on my hair all the time. People will ask me what I use and this is what I recommend. Everyone’s hair is different but if you have similar curls like mine and your hair tends to get frizzy easily because it’s on the finer side, definitely try it out!

This product has changed my life and my hair. I’d give it a million stars if I could! My curls used to only last a day or two with a routine using a curl cream and a strong hold gel. I’ve swapped to using a curl cream and this product, and my curls last for DAYS. They look good all week. I can wear my hair down so much more and spend so much less time on my hair. Diffuse or not, whatever works for you; I LOVE the way this makes my hair feel. All the definition, none of the frizz, and it doesn’t weigh down my hair or make it look greasy. You can truly just throw some of this product in wet hair and go, and my hair still dries with well defined curls and no frizz. I’ll buy this again and again and again.

I have wavy/curly, chin length hair that is thick yet easily weighed down by oils due to low porosity. I was tempted to try this due to the in simplicity of in shower application. I only used a quarter sized amount for my whole head and the cast was heavy with zero frizz. I was afraid it would be too heavy but after I broke the cast my hair didn’t feel weighed down at all. I lost a little volume probably due to the fact that I didn’t towel dry my hair at all. On day 2 my how looks and feels pretty good. Next time I’ll use a little more product and squeeze out excess water first so my hair dries faster and has more curl. Overall this worked better than expected although not as good as my usual routine which is olaplex #3 and 6 on towel dried hair. But I like that this is a silicone free option and I will try it more. This is definitely my best experience with a gel. The smells of curlsmith products are like flintstone kid vitamins it’s so strange haha. It not bad just a powdery fruity smell. Doesn’t longer on head or bother me but it’s odd. Welp olaplex smells like Hawaiian Punch. Idk why brands choose these bizarre scents for their products.

This works best for my hair when it is soaking wet. After detangled, I tussle my hair a bit while my head is flipped over. Rake a small amount through. I take a small beed of this rubbed around on both palms and do the 'praying hands' on my hair. The scrunch and diffuse until 90% dry. A bit later when completely dry, I break the cast. Long lasting hold with great frizz control.

This is THE gel I’ve been looking for. It’s the only gel I’ve tried that not only creates a firm cast that lasts for days, but also adds definition as well. It has such a firm hold and keeps my waves and curls intact for days. I have 2C hair that ringlets at the end and other gels and mousses add hold this product creates SO much definition as well that I’ve never gotten from another gel. Couldn’t recommend more. My only issue is that I have incredibly sensitive skin and it makes my scalp a little itchy. That’s not the product’s fault, though, and I’ll continue to use it despite the itchiness because the results are worth it.

I have never written a negative review before but I’m so pissed off right now I felt it was necessary! I have 2C/3A hair and I used this the same way I would use my old gel (Umberto Giannini curl jelly my favourite) and it weighed down my hair to barely 2B! I don’t even know how that’s possible and on top of that it completely dryer it out and made it frizzy and horrible to touch.. absolutely awful I can’t believe I wasted €30 on this I could’ve bought 3 of the Umberto Giannini Curl Jellies for the same price I’m livid

I feel like this review is going to be a long one, but stay with me. I thought I’d share my experiences with the physical and mental struggle with trying to achieve a state of health and growth with curly hair. I am British mixed Afro Caribbean and my whole life i’ve found my hair to be something I was ashamed of growing up in a white community with constant comparing to my white friends with their straight hair that had new styles in constantly and from that I became very envious of the versatility of their straight frizz-free hair. Furthermore I grew up with my mum who is white (absolutely no negativity towards her because she took care of my hair very well and often learnt how to manage it from my dads side of the family who is black when we had the chance to see them- which was rarely.) But as good as she was I didn’t have a mother who had the experience with growing up with curly hair so this made it difficult for me to relate to anyone. At primary, I would have my hair slicked into a pony tail or a braid because I hated how it looked out and as I got older that was the only thing I would do with my hair. In high school, I would put my hair into a slick back ponytail every day with just gel, no other product and I done that for 3 years. In year 10 I really started to think about my hair more and i grew increasingly unhappy with it. I was still very envious of my white peers! So everyday i would slick it back into a range of hairstyles: Half up half down, bun, ponytails, french braids etc. I loved doing my hair at this point of time and i finally started to see how beautiful my hair could be when I put some effort into it. I started exploring brands like shea moisture, african pride, mielle and many more and I started to fall in love with my hair. But then I decided to take my hair more seriously. I spent hours researching my hair, hair type, hair porosity, moisturising ingredients, best products, hair routines etc as I have always been insecure about my frizz in my hair and I wanted to do something about it. In 2021, the back of my hair wouldn’t even curl because the amount of times i had put high tension onto my hair from slick backs and a lack of moisturising ingredients- it would just frizz! Anyways, I found out my hair texture was a mix of 3b, 3c, 4a, my roots are tighter and the shaft being slightly looser. My porosity type is high porosity as my hair soaks up moisture quickly and would frizz and dry out easily. With this information I tried popular brands such as shea moisture (didn’t like, not moisturising at all and doesn’t penetrate the hair shaft, although their deep conditioners are great) mielle (loved this brand but they changed the formula and there has been controversy about their products causing hair loss, so I stopped using it) and now finally curlsmith. It has taken me years to get where i am today, i’ve provided photos of my hair in 2021 up until today in 2024. It’s taken me 3 years of love and struggle to get to where i am and many small hair cuts. I used the Curlsmith protein salve in my hair before i shower, Redken bonding shampoo, Shea moisture deep conditioner, the leave in oil cream and the shower-in gel and a diffuser and these are my results each time i use them which last around 7 days if i wrap it properly at night. I am proud to say after coming all this way I well and truly love my curls, I always have my hair down or i’ll VERY occasionally style it into a bun or ponytail. Curlsmith has the most natural ingredients you can get and is a great place to start if you want to bring your curls back from the dead; it is possible with time and patience! I hope my “story” has provided some comfort to people who experienced/experiencing what i’ve been through and to let them know it will all get better and to love your hair unconditionally! Ich habe sehr dickes, widerspenstiges Haar und viele Produkte lassen meine Locken entweder hart oder frizzig zurück. Der Curlsmith In-Shower Style Fixer überrascht positiv: Anwendung: Lässt sich leicht in nasses Haar einarbeiten, braucht aber etwas Übung bei der Dosierung (bei mir reicht eine kleine Menge). Wirkung: Der Halt ist tatsächlich stark, aber das Haar bleibt flexibel. Nach dem Auskneten wirkt es nicht betonartig. Duft & Gefühl: Angenehm, nicht zu intensiv. Kein beschwerendes Gefühl. Pro: starker Halt, gut für dicke Haare, kein Verklebungsgefühl. Contra: relativ hoher Preis, kann bei zu viel Produkt etwas hart werden. 👉 Fazit: Ideal für alle, die Locken definieren und lange fixieren möchten. Besonders für kräftiges Haar geeignet.
