Is it possible to shut off control panel light button?

No, the control panel on/off switch is constantly backlit and can’t be turned off. Since the remote control is magnetic and will attach to the pole, I solved this bedroom only nighttime sleep light issue by moving the remote up on the pole until it just covers the backlit on/off switch. The remote completely blocks all the light. Problem solved. Hope this helps. It’s a great lamp!

Would this lamp light up a bdrm where you could see well?

It's a matter of opinion. In my opinion, No. It is not what I expected in a floor lamp. It is equivalent to a desk lamp. It might be one that sits on the floor, but will give good light to only one little spot. Like the area of a chair or desk area. Therefore think of it more like a desk lamp. I have had floor lamps that were 5 times brighter and sufficiently bright for a whole room. This one is not. Again, only the area of one chair or desk area. Not very bright for a floor lamp. About as bright as a desk lamp.

What is the wattage range of the bulb? Ex: 5-20w? Or does it go up to 60 or 100w?

The “bulb” is an array of LED emitters. Wattage ratings for LEDs do not directly relate to the wattage ratings for conventional incandescent light bulbs. The best measure of light output or brightness for any type of lamp is the lumen rating. I could not find a lumen output rating for this floor lamp. I can tell you that it is plenty bright for armchair reading. The brightness output is variable as well as the color temperature (2800K - 6500K). I set the brightness output around 60% for normal reading. At maximum brightness and maximum color temperature I would estimate the lumen output of this lamp exceeds the lumen output of a conventional 100 Watt incandescent bulb.
