Portable EL Wire 10 Feet Long (Purple)

Great Fun, but...
I used this to decorate my kayak for a couple of night paddles; a July 4th fireworks picnic outing, a Christmas lights paddle, etc.Everyone loved them. Everyone asked "Where can I get those?!"Be warned, the wires handle water well. But the battery cases... not so much. They are not sealed, and they DO leak.I "bagged" the battery cases in ziplock bags, and that worked to some extent. But inevitably they all leaked and ruined the light strings. My use was probably outside the "design parameters" for the product. They were fun. I am not sorry I bought them. But I was only able to use them a few times.Maybe someone more fastidious than I could use them in or on a boat repeatedly without issue. If you plan to use them on trees or shrubs give thought to "bagging" them, and they should hold up longer than in my kayak.

Very unusual
I was familiar with LED's but not EL Wire. I still wonder how it works. The color is uniform along the entire length of the wire (actually plastic tubing) not bright and dim like the LED string lights. However, they are not as bright as LED's and are best for low light areas or darkness. They make great accent lights for decorating and one can wear them as part of a costume. As long as the bend is not too radical, one could form letters with them.I did not hear the sound others mention but my daughter did. I have no complaints about the battery box and suggest those who have problems try positioning a small piece of aluminum foil to bridge any gaps in the contacts.I was a little leery about buying one because of the negative comments in some reviews. I didn't know what EL Wire is and thought maybe it was just junk. I was so delighted and surprised when it arrived.

Not Really Purple and Very Dim
Shipment was reasonably prompt, considering it isn't eligible for Amazon Prime. It works properly. However, I expected the two lengths of wire I'd ordered to be a lot brighter.I had previously ordered two 15-foot lengths of purple wire by Graybean. The Graybean wires were nice and bright. In comparison, the BeWild wires were very dim. The contrast was so noticeable that I could not use the BeWild wire on my costume. I ordered the Graybean wire in the 11-foot lengths instead. That wire cost a bit more, but it was worth it.As other reviewers have noted, the wire isn't really purple. It's a definite two-tone wire. The Graybean wire isn't exactly purple either, but it's closer than the BeWild wire.I wore the costume at Faerieworlds in Oregon. While there I bought a pair of purple and black wings. I thought of perhaps adding the BeWild wire to the wings, but even on their own, away from the Graybean wires, they're just so dim compared to other EL wire I'd seen over the weekend. The second star is only because the wire was delivered promptly and the units work well. If they'd been as bright as most other wire I've seen, I would've added one or two stars.Lesson learned: Don't mix brands of wire in the same project.

Worked great for Holloween costume!
This went really well for a homemade jellyfish costume. Used the purple one to line the bottom rim of a clear umbrella lighting up the tentacles that hung from the same part of the umbrella. The blue one was weaved inside at the top (hidden by a small circle of cloth fitted over the top as well). The lights went through the cloth and made the costume really pop.The light lasted plenty for the few hours the costume was worn. If it wasn't for the loud background noise, the ringing sound the boxes made would have drove one crazy while wearing this costume though.

More fuscia than purple...
I was expecting a UV-type color tone... however I got a white wire in a violet housing acting like a filter, giving a fuscia/pink color.Nevertheless, It is a very nice item, I wired it (PCB included ) to the 5v line of one of the USB ports of my computer and having it running 24/7 . Not flaws so far...except heatThere IS pitching sound..probably made by the inverter, and it gets louder when raising the current , this thing also gets hot , so if you gonna hack it take the sound and the heat into consideration.

Very annoying high pitched tone when turned on
I wore this at a dancing event.PROS:Nice, distinctive color. Not too bright, but also easily visible at the venue.CONS:There's a very annoying high pitched tone that you WILL hear when turned on. Thankfully, at the venue, the music was loud enough that I didn't always hear it. Even still, I'd occasionally hear it over the music. It isn't loud, it's just very high pitched and loud enough to be audible to a distance of about 3 ft from the battery holder area (which is where the sound originates).Basically, it was a nice accessory for a one-time thing. I wouldn't bother with it again because of the noise.

Color is not accurately portrayed- otherwise no complaints
As mentioned: it's not really purple, or the color seen in the picture. This particular photo also makes it seem much brighter than I found it to be.Nonetheless, it's pretty awesome, the battery lasts a long time and it's convenient. There are all sorts of really cool things you can do, especially with several of these!I have no complaints about the quality of construction; but I had realistic expectations...

Light up BLUE, not purple
This works just like the EL wire I got in a science kit. Unfortunately, it isn't really purple. It looks pink when off, but the blue light overwhelms the pink coating giving it the same blue look as my other wire. I was really trying for a different color and I ended up with the same as what I already had.
