Can I place dumbbells less that 20lbs on the mat or will it damage it?

You can place dumbbells less than 20lbs on the mat. The mat won't be damaged. I sit on the mat and I weigh 160 lbs. Leaves "depressions" in the mat from my weight but the mat returns to its original shape. It's made of rubber or a synthetic rubber. I love mine.

Can this be placed on a plush carpet?

I’ve had mine on fairly plush carpet. There is a softer feel than when I have it on a hard surface. I expect it just depends on what you’re going to do on it.

What are the shipped package dimensions and the total weight of the mat with the shipping box?

I no longer have my packing slip to answer your questions. However, I can tell you that the box in which mat arrived was proportioned to size of mat. Box was light, easy to handle and easy to break down for recycling.
