Unplugged

this is my new "reference material" and should be yours too.
Clapton fanboy, so there is your grain of salt. now for the vinyl review of this remastered masterpiece. the original CD of this performance was stellar. Clapton has always had excellent sound engineers, both live and in studio. to give you an idea of the quality of his sound engineers the CD is still used as the reference for "HD Audio" downloads (16bit/44.1kHz). so the background for quality is set. recently this concert was remastered and YES it is noticeable. the soundstage is wider, his voice has more detail/warmth, each note from all instruments can be heard as if you were there in the middle of the set. Clapton is the inspiration for me, and countless others, picking up the guitar. i have the same Martin model he used with his line of martin strings. i can play all of his songs and the sound is close (tonally, not as clean or accurately) but with this vinyl it is as close to being there, again even better than the digital.as with any music there are certain things you just can't compromise on. first the artist has to use quality recording gear, then the studio has to master it correctly. this has been perfect on this album. next you have to ensure your part of the audio chain is up to snuff to get the best out of it. IMO speakers can overcome other areas that may be lacking, but you don't have to spend thousands to achieve quality sound. next is the play back device. for Vinyl a quality cartridge can make a huge difference, again you don't have to go super expensive. lastly the amp should be decent, and most amps these days are more than capable. now if you have a good setup then this vinyl 4 record set should really really be in your collection.my set-up;elac B6 speakers (14 gauge wire speaker cable)u-turn orbit with ortofon 2M redcustom made phono pre-amp (i know how to make them but any good pre-amp will be fine)Denon AVR-1912 with "pure direct" mode for phono (this bypasses all digital paths and just amplifies the analog signal from the pre-amp)if you have better equipment i'm jealous, because i know this album can sound phenomenal.

Vinyl is King!
Eric Clapton's "Unplugged" was a classic album when it first hit the charts and hasn't slowed down since. This new double lp sounds fantastic and is well worth the money paid.

Impressive vinyl release!
Wow... the last few vinyl releases that I’ve picked up from the Reprise label have been stunningly great. This is a great vinyl release. A double album gatefold edition on 180g ultra quiet vinyl. The cover fit and finish is fantastic as well. These unplugged events for MTV were well recorded. This Clapton album has a full spectrum sound quality to it. It is clear in the highs, mid range is just right and the lows are impressive for a record. Each track has been mixed well and the master is flawless with an open soundstage and clarity in voices and instruments. Running on Faith really shines and stands out, Layla is better than being there, and the blues numbers are just entertaining. Signe is also one of my favorite tracks that really shines. It deserves 5 stars and if you’re considering it on vinyl, you can’t go wrong here. It was a landmark night with a great crowd that became a legend and is now larger than life on vinyl!
