The album contains hits that include "I Still Love You," "I've Cried My Last Tear for You" and "Oh Pretty Woman." Ricky Van Shelton's voice fit well with ballads. He spent his childhood singing in church prior to learning about his love for country music.

The two albums were both good and that makes this a great album and great ...
Another album in the Two albums on a single album series. The two albums were both good and that makes this a great album and great value for money too.Ricky has a country/rockabilly style. He has a good selection of fast and slow tracks and covers the Roy Orbison classic; Pretty Woman, which he does rather well. He does it a little faster than the Big O but, I think it improves it.A great addition to a country fan's music collection.

Third RVS album is a classic
Ricky burst on to the country music scene in 1987. For a few years, Ricky had considerable success on the country charts with twelve of his singles going to number one including three from this album. The three number one hits from this album were I've cried my last tear for you, Statue of a fool (a cover of a Jack Greene classic) and I meant every word he said. Those three songs can be found on various compilations, as can Oh pretty woman (a cover of Roy Orbison's signature song) and Life's little ups and downs. Some people think Ricky made a mistake in choosing to cover Oh pretty woman but I don't. Of course it doesn't match Roy's original but it is quite an impressive effort nonetheless. I don't think too many singers could do as good a cover of this song. With five tracks available elsewhere, the other six tracks (mainly ballads) provide real reason to track down this fine album. Highlight among them is Sweet memories, an old Mickey Newbury song that Ricky revived as a duet with Brenda Lee. Exactly what inspired the pairing of Ricky and Brenda for this song, I don't know (they weren't even on the same record label) but the combination works brilliantly. Another great song (I'm starting over) was co-written by Kix Brooks who was (at the time) yet to team up with Ronnie Dunn to form the country duo of the nineties. With other great songs here (You would do the same for me, Love is burning, Not that I care and I still love you), this is a magnificent album that should please fans of traditional country music.
