This is The Chair
Pros: Best Chair Ever. That's not hyperbole - I'm 64 and have been doing office work for most of my adult life, and have through a wide variety of chairs from the cheap to expensive competitors, and none of them hold a candle to this chair. Assembly: dead easy. The only challenge is that the chair itself is heavy, so getting it out of the box is work, and getting the piston, chair and base aligned is definitely easier with two people. Other than that, assembly was seconds, easy, and required no tools at all. Adjustable: I'm short and um... fluffy, so no chairs ever fit me. This chair does, and perfectly. The seat moves in and out far enough that you can get the pressure points on your thighs exactly right and comfortable. It goes low enough that my feet are actually flat on the floor with no need for a cushion, but adjusts high enough for my 6' plus husband. The adjustable lumbar is ideal support, and adjusts far enough to suit a variety of needs. The 4 stops on the recline work perfectly, and even better, the tension adjustment on recline lets me get the chair to "just right" for long calls or long pounding keyboard sessions. The controls are easy to understand and logical, so no fumbling around trying to remember which dial does what. There are several reviews that call out the arm rests moving, and yes they do move, but they're stiff enough to stay put while seated, and pull right back in as needed. I can get them to exactly the right height and position with no fiddling at all, and a big plus is that they adjust forward and back as well as up and down. The seat itself is cushioned, but not mushy at all, so you get comfort with support for long days at the desk. The back is firm and comfortable. I added the headrest, which is as good a quality as the rest of the chair, looks great, and adjusts to "just right". After many, many years of trying to find the best economy chair, I finally bit the bullet and bought the chair I deserve. Now I'm reminded that there's a huge difference between "price" and "cost" and wish I'd done this years ago.

**Unmatched Comfort and Adjustability - Highly Recommended!**
I recently purchased the Steelcase Gesture Office Chair with Head Rest, and it has been a game-changer for my work-from-home setup. As someone who spends up to 12 hours a day at my desk, finding a chair that provides both comfort and support was crucial, and this chair delivers on all fronts. The comfort level of the Steelcase Gesture is unparalleled. The seat cushion is incredibly supportive, and the backrest contours perfectly to my spine, providing excellent lumbar support. The headrest is a fantastic addition, offering just the right amount of support for my neck and head, which is essential during long work sessions. What truly sets this chair apart is its adjustability. Every aspect of the chair can be customized to fit your body perfectly. The armrests move in every directionโup, down, forward, backward, and even pivotโensuring that my arms and shoulders are always in a comfortable position. The seat depth and height adjustments are smooth and easy to use, allowing me to find the perfect seating position effortlessly. Since using the Steelcase Gesture, I have experienced no body pain, even after sitting for extended periods. The chair promotes good posture and reduces strain on my back and neck, making those long workdays much more manageable. I highly recommend the Steelcase Gesture Office Chair with Head Rest to anyone in need of a high-quality, ergonomic office chair. It is worth every penny for the comfort and support it provides. If you spend a lot of time at your desk, this chair is an investment in your health and productivity. I hope this review helps!

Very adjustable but just not comfortable due to it's seat
I ended up returning mine and paying $50 to send it back for shipping cost. I really wanted to like this chair as it has a lot going for it. The arm rests are excellent. The back is great. The headrest is serviceable. Loads of adjustments to get the chair to work for you. The seat cushion is just bad though. Feels like you are sitting on a wooden bench. I was constantly moving around every couple minutes to try to find a comfortable position. I assume you could buy a pad to put on top but something about that doesn't feel right when purchasing a chair of this expense. So this is why it is a 1 star rating. If it isn't comfortable it is ultimately unusable.

Good, but not Great - Headrest one word description: Floppy
The headrest fails this chair making it Good but not Great. My expectation is that when I adjust the headrest it should stay in place. Instead there is excessive free movement backward and forward (see video). From center point top to bottom of the headrest - I measured 2.5" of free movement. Floppy and just completely unexpected. EDIT: Found out today when the headrest came off that the excessive play was because the screws weren't tightened properly and the insert thread was stripped. Researching, I found this to be a common occurrence (shame on you Steelcase). That being said, a little more work than you should have to do for a $1k chair will be resolved by either a little epoxy and re-drill of the thread or a new thread insert. I had neither at the time, so opted for a temp fix using a glue gun so that the screw could grab a little better. Oh and by tightening more I noticed the tip of the screw started to reach the surface on the other side of the headrest. I suspect Steelcase contracts out for the headrest addition... it's just too kludgy and there are a couple of different approaches that would make it rock solid.

Most versatile chair I have ever owned
This chair has been such an amazing daily driver since I bought it! I have struggled with getting my arms in the most relaxed position- close to the desk, just the right height- and the ability to shape the way I want it. The chair height is just perfect, and the arms match really well with the height (also adjustable) - so I can get in that comfort zone. The Seat is well made- and I would say it is a good 1-2 hours of straight work before you need to get up and just stretch a little, but that is with my settings. The seat sits more like an airline feel to me, so it grabs your sides and back just so well- you actually want to sit up straight because it feels so good. Never was a recliner in a chair-type worker- but when you move back, the seat moves with you and just hits all the right zones. I love it, The headrest is a little more finicky than I would want. But to spend the extra money and get a great rest on your head is worth the extra money. Plus the lumbar support - mine I have up all the way to the top and just feels top-notch. The Headrest, however, is a little struggle to get just right to where it feels amazing- and if you sit straight up your body gets pushed forward, when you go back you lose a little of the position- Lately, I do not use the headrest - just the comfort on the arms, seat, and back is worth the price- the headrest does get out of the way when positioned all the way back - so you get a double bonus there! Box it comes in is huge, and yesterday I had to tear down that box- and it took I would say 15-25 minutes since it is so large- no big deal but just saying - I use to get my chairs at staples, and I am done with that- this is an amazing chair, and I highly recommend it - it is something that I hope lasts a good 5-10 years - and after thinking about the price, which I dreaded to, I made the best investment for my work, arms, and back. I am so picky with this chair I did buy a cheap cover for the seat cushion. Man, I love this chair!! I would buy this immediately again- my congrats to Steelcase for nailing it - never will I buy from my local store again! - spend a little more get a lot of enjoyment for your work!

Not happy with the chair!
I am not happy with the sitting comfort at all. It seams to be too hard for my butt, the button to change the angle of the back is intermittent blocking/sticking, the armrests are not ergonomic. Will try to return. The box was enormously heavy and the chair difficult to remove. I am not happy, my old cheaper chair is much better. The only advantage is the head rest.

Exceeded My Expectations
I wasn't looking for an ergonomic chair. I wanted durability. However, during my search I evaluated many candidate chairs and for many I found in the reviews stories of mechanical failures, surface delaminations, broken wheels, noises, and so forth - the very things I wanted to avoid. I settled on the Gesture office chair primarily because of the 12-year manufacturer's warranty. The reviews were generally good and the even the lower scores did not complain of issues that matter to me. (and who claims 'its the best chair I ever owned' and only gives four stars?) I bought the version with the headrest and wheels for hard floors. It came in a big box, so big that two Amazon guys carried it into my front door. Although some assembly was required, it came in three pieces and took only about 30 seconds to assemble with no tools. The chair is solid, no slop anywhere, no squeaking or groaning or noise of any kind. The chair is amazingly configurable. No matter if I am sitting upright or leaning back, the back of the chair supports and stays with my spine and shoulders. The armrests raise high enough to support my arms while typing or texting on my smart phone. I don't have to hunch over anymore. I'm a big guy (6'3" and 275#) and the chair is adjustable to suit my large frame. The headrest is high enough and moves forward enough to support my head while seated in a normal position - this was unexpected. Until I sat in the Gesture office chair, I did not know how I was suffering with the bad ergonomics of previous chairs. Durability? Too early to tell. The prognosis is good based on the build quality. By the way, my cats love the box.

You're unlikely to find a better chair
There is no doubt that this chair is expensive, however, considering the price of the 3 chairs I have purchased in the past year and the fact that they have all fallen apart, the Gesture is an investment and I'll end up saving money by not buying $150-$300 chairs every few months. Also, in the unlikely event the Gesture is broken, it is covered by a 12-year warranty. You won't find anything remotely similar with chairs like those I have purchased in the last year. You're not simply buying a chair. You're investing in a piece of equipment. Write it off as a business expense if you have to, but you need to invest in this chair if you have to spend more than a couple hours at your desk every day. You are unlikely to find a better product on the market. I had seriously considered Herman Miller chairs, but I always found something that really bothered me about each model they make. The Gesture provides perfect support and is designed to suit a variety of positions that differ depending on the task you're doing or the device you're using. The headrest and armrests were what sold me. You can adjust the chair for anything from gaming to reading to completing work assignments. In terms of function, the Gesture has replaced my desk chair, gaming chair, and reading chair. In terms of form, this is a beautiful piece that complements any number of personal decorative styles. Did the chair cost a lot? Yes, of course it did. Has it replaced several other pieces of furniture that collectively cost much more? Absolutely, yes. This is not a cheap chair, but you definitely get what you pay for. You will never hear me express buyer's remorse about the Steelcase Gesture. It is one of the best purchases I have ever made.
