What’s the difference between this seal and the O’ring for the vacuum pump?

there is only a seal in the head and a gasket between head and pump that i know of there may be a o ring in a pump overhaul kit if you can find one

How does one remove the old gasket and install the new one?

it depends if head is on are off engine to remove i used a seal puller with ajustable handle try to just hook the seal with out puting a scratch in the head to install the seal use a wheel race installer that the flat side just will fit in the hole of the head put the seal as square in the hole as you can put race tool flat side to seal it would help to have extra hands use as long of a pry bar that will clear hood to push on installer to get seal flush you may have to use a block of wood near the firewall area it's not easey hope this helps i have only did this on 2 cadillac ats
