Beginner's Review
I took up practicing yoga three months ago. I excitedly purchased a new Under Armour mat for $70 at a local sporting goods store, thinking that it must be good if it's $70. (Sucker!) Within minutes of starting class I was inching toward "face planting dog" from down dog. Now, granted, I am a sweaty beast when I work out to begin with, but I couldn't figure out why this was happening. So next class I brought a towel. (Fail) Next I switched mats and used one of the famous Manduka mats that the studio provided. I was STILL slipping! I then asked my yoga teacher what he recommended and he said, "Mats are a relatively new concept to yoga. Yoga has been practiced for centuries without mats. If you're slipping, it's improper alignment and you're not reaching up with your hips and core"... This information actually made sense to me. But I have always been terribly inflexible. My workouts were always cardio and a little weights. The way that yoga builds strength in the muscles is a completely new concept to my body. Until I build up the proper core and other muscles, I needed a friggin mat that wasn't going to allow me to go anywhere else than where I placed my hands/feet. I won't make this any longer than it has to be, but after slipping 42,000 times, (ok mayyybe half that.) I did in fact, injure my shoulder. After this, I was on the hunt for the perfect non-slipping mat. After reading reviews on as many mats as I could possibly find info on, I purchased the Jade for it's alleged performance under the influence of sweaty hands. I cannot even properly convey how happy I am with this purchase, but I will attempt. I won't write a poem about it, because this is a product review, but I would like to because THAT is how happy I am with this mat. ("Ode to Jade" should probably have been my review title) I am in LOVE. I DON'T SLIP. EVER. I can now concentrate on actually getting into the proper poses and focus on my breath because I'm not focused on slipping! I am still able to move easily into poses without it being so sticky that I get stuck. I have made awesome improvements, and while I owe gratitude to my body, this mat has facilitated the advancement. Now, a couple things I've noticed: 1.It smells. The smell does dissipate a bit after washing though. According to Jade, the smell will dissipate within two weeks to a couple of months. I've only had it for 1.5 months and smell is mostly tolerable. 2. It takes forever to dry. You are supposed to wash with plain water. I went for the lesser recommended front loading gentle cycle. (I like to live on the edge) I used just a tiny bit of dreft and still had to rinse two extra times and spin two additional times because as noted on their website faqs, this mat is basically a sponge and will soak up any moisture. (side thought: so if I'm sweating on it, all the more reason to wash it! eww!). I will not be doing that again on a frequent basis though, unless I bleed or puke on it. I will definitely "wipe down with water" or find perhaps a mat spray because this process took hours. I then hung it to dry... and aged ten years. It took 18 hours to completely dry. This might be a deal breaker for some, but for me it's just slightly annoying but something I work into the schedule because it doesn't affect it's performance, which is the reason I purchased it. 3. Because of its texture and stickyness, it will not fit easily into a narrow yoga bag. I had to buy a yoga sling/strap carrier, which makes for easier exit at the end of class. 4. Because of its stickyness it will pick up everything on the surface that you lay it on. Whatever touches will hang on to it. So this makes tip #2 a more frequent occurrence. But again, finding a mat spray or simply wiping it down as suggested would probably make this less of an ordeal. Innnnn conclusion, I am supremely satisfied with this mat. It fixed my problem thereby promoting growth in my practice. When this one wears down, as it will due to its biodegradeableness (is that a word?) then I will promptly buy another.

Jade Harmony vs. Fusion and Manduka
First, my background: I am a 34 year old woman and I have been practicing yoga for 4 years. I practice about 4 times a week and usually take a vigorous intermediate/advanced level vinyasa class in a moderately heated room (temp in the low 80s), so I sweat a lot. I just switched to the Jade Harmony mat after using the Jade Fusion for a little over a year, and I'm so happy with my choice. Jade mats are the grippiest mats I've ever found. Some people complain that the grip is too much, and slows down transitions (like the transition from chaturanga to up dog), but this has never bothered me. What does bother me is my hands slowly creeping forward in downward dog--and Jade makes the ONLY mats I've found that prevent that. I really loved my Jade Fusion in the time I had it, but I like the Harmony much, much better. It's thinner, so it's easier to use for balancing poses, and it's lighter, so it's SO much easier to carry around. I didn't realize what a production even just getting the Fusion out of my car or rolling up my mat after finishing a class were until I switched to the Harmony. The extra thickness and weight really does make a negative difference in daily use. I also struggled a lot with balance the entire time I used the Fusion, but the Harmony is a different animal--it's more like being on solid ground and it's that much easier to balance. I did appreciate the Fusion's extra cushioning on my knees, but I just grab a blanket when I get to my studio and use it when I need it--which is rare, pretty much just camel pose. The price of the Harmony is better too--overall it's the mat to go with unless you have a real physical need for the thicker Fusion. While I was deciding what mat to get after the Fusion, I tried out the Manduka ProLITE and the eKoLITE 2.0. I found the ProLITE was very slick and I never felt totally solid in any of my poses. The eKoLITE was much grippier, almost comparable to the Jade, but I still found my hands doing that forward creep I hate in downward dog. The only downside to the Jade mats is they don't last as long as Manduka's mats. I ultimately decided I am willing to sacrifice a little longevity in my mat for better grip, which is really the most important thing to me in a yoga mat. Even if I need to replace my Jade mat annually--which I don't think I will; the Fusion was holding up great after a year of practice and I made this change for other reasons--it is a minimal cost given the amount I practice and the value of having a mat that keeps me safe and secure in my asanas. Most other athletic pursuits come with recurring costs--replacing running shoes, for instance--and for the amount of use I get out of them, I think Jade mats are a great deal.

The grip is unbeatable & you should buy it
I'm a hot yogi. It's SO grippy! It doesn't require a yoga towel or anything. It may even be too grippy for some yogis. But I love this mat so much I've purchased it twice. It's extremely durable though. The texture remains grippy for the entirety of it's existence. The only reason purchase a second ones was because I had this mat for 5 year, and that just seemed like really a long time to have a mat to me. As others have mentioned, the only downside is the natural rubber has an intense car tire smell for months after purchase, and the smell will lingers forever. Washing it won't help. I'd recommend just draping your mat after each use until the smell is tolerable and then use a nice smelling yoga mat spray to mask the last remaining smell. But truly a minor thing for how amazing this mat is.

This will take a few uses for me to adjust to
I wanted to take my time to find a natural mat that was not going to be made of Polyvinyl Chloride. I am aware of how natural rubber can smell, so I made sure to leave this in my laundry room for about four days to calm itself down. It was pretty potent, but around day five it lessened, and I was able to use it without the smell. I am really happy with this yoga mat. First, I absolutely love the color. It feels bright and motivating every time I roll it out. The grip is fantastic, and I no longer slide during poses, which was a major issue with all of my other mats. That alone makes it a huge upgrade for me. At first, it felt a little too sticky, but I am hopeful that will soften with use. I know yoga mats always take time to adjust, and my last mat stayed with me for about eight years, so I am not worried. Overall, it is comfortable, supportive, and makes my practice much more enjoyable. I highly recommend this mat if you have struggled with slipping mats before. This one definitely delivers.

Best deal I have found
I've been using this mat for 5 months now. This is what I have found. PROS: -Very Sticky: traction is only a problem when absolutely drenched in sweat -Lays Very flat: it only rolls off the floor a tiny amount when laid flat -Excellent cushioning: I have found it adequate for nearly everything, surprising for a 3/16 mat -Biodegradable: made of natural rubber CONS: -Heavy: not the heaviest mat out there by far, but it could be lighter -Stretchy: you can push little hills up with you hands and feet allowing your hands and feet to move a little. I haven't found this to be a big problem, but it could be improved. -Noticeable smell: real rubber = real rubber smell -Dirty: the mat has a tendency to absorb sweat and collect small skin & dust particles. Cheap, plastic mats seem to be better in this regard. Neutral but worthwhile points: -Price: the main competitor to this mat is the Manduka BlackMatPRO 71", which ranges from $80 and up. -Be sure to buy an extra large mat bag or strap for this mat, it is a bit unwieldy without it. - YogaAccessories (TM) Black OM Cotton Yoga Mat Bag This has worked well for me, but the mat is so sticky that sliding it into the bag can be difficult; a strap might be a better choice. Notes (edit): This mat works great with cheaper mat towels. I sweat a lot during my yoga practices, so I recently bought a mat towel to protect my mat from a daily gallon of sweat. I looked at non-slip towels ( Yogitoes Skidless Premium Mat-Size Yoga Towel ), but decided I would try a more basic towel to see how it worked. I ended up buying Gaiam Thirsty Yoga Towel (Smokey Purple) . I am quite pleased with how well it sticks to this mat, wet or dry it doesn't budge off the mat at all. My feet are a somewhat different story, but I am pleased to say that with this mat you do not need a pricey mat towel with silicon grips. Some advice about cleaning. This mat has to be soaked to get clean. I wash mine in a top loading washing machine. Use the delicates setting because it usually doesn't churn the water as vigorously (the churning doesn't help very much and it just wears against the mat). Try to wrap the mat as wide in the tumbler as possible to avoid the agitator in the center. I haven't tried using soap, but it seems like a bad idea to me. I use the hottest water setting. Drying is the hard part, the mat is like a sponge and it holds a lot of water. To make matters worse, the manufacturer strongly advises against leaving the mat in direct sunlight. It takes days to dry fully, and when the mat seems dry it may still have water deep inside that will squeeze out of it during practice.

Amazing mat. Awesome grip. Color true to picture with description.
I am in love with my new mat! Service was speedy, and my mat is everything I expected it to be! The color is true to the picture shown (I bought the raspberry colored mat) which I was concerned about at first. It's amazing! There is definitely a smell to it so it will need some airing out, but that is expected. UPDATE : This mat is still everything I dreamed it would be! I figured now that I have practiced on it I would give it some pros and cons. PROS: The grip is phenomenal! This mat has definitely allowed me to take my head and handstands to a new level. The 68" length is perfect for my 5'5" frame. My head and feet do not touch the floor when I am stretched out for savasana. The cushion on the mat is pretty minimal, and perfect for balance poses. It is not too hard on my knees either because of the slight spring it provides since it is rubber. The mat rolls out nicely for each practice and I don't have to roll it under like my old cheap walmart mat just to make it lay flat. So far there is no wear on the mat, and I bought my mat about 5 months ago (I practice vinyasa and hatha yoga for an hour each practice 4-5 days a week). CONS: The grip on the mat is definitely something to get used to. Starting out, I had to completely rethink how to move my feet from warrior one to warrior two. What was once a simple sliding movement turned into lifting and placing of my foot. I have figured out how to get back to the sliding movement I did before, but it was definitely a transition. Also, because of the good grip, anything and everything likes to stick to this mat. Lint, hair, whatever is on the floor of your studio, your mat now has. So lint rollers are definitely nice to have on occasion. And lastly, the smell! I was warned ahead of time that the mat would smell like a goodyear tire, but I didn't realize how long it would last (it does fade a lot though!). Even after 5 months of use it still has a faint rubber smell. I am probably at fault for it still smelling like that though, because I keep it in a bag all the time. So word of advice: when you get it, wash it and let it air out unrolled for a few weeks if you really want the smell gone for good. I'm talking about even after each practice, let it air out! A spritz of essential oils mixed with water is also a good idea.

Got a grip
This mat is excellent. I am not an advanced yogi, but I do an intermediate practice daily. For most poses, a cheap mat worked fine. There are a few poses, however, in which my hands or feet would always slip, sometimes dangerously. 3-legged dog and transitions from it were the biggest culprit. I tried the little grippy yoga gloves, but they didn't do much (the gloves would stick to the mat, but my hands would slip inside the gloves). This is a non-issue with this mat. I am totally stable in 3-legged dog with no slip in the hands or foot. I also notice a difference in a variety of standing poses, especially ones where my feet are far apart or I am shifting around a lot. The added stability has made it safer to practice, and possible to push my practice and improve my form. The mat doesn't look thick, but I have found that it provides the same amount of cushion as other thicker mats. It does seems to act as a magnet for dust and dirt-- I clean it with a minimal amount of water and rag. It's heavier than a foam mat, of course--might not be the best travel mat. The hefty price is certainly a consideration. It's all-natural rubber, so the price is what it is. If you're looking for grip, this is the one.

Very Slippery
After reading reviews, i decided to buy Jade Harmony yoga mat. I sweat much and my palms and feet get very sweaty doing yoga. So i was looking for a mat that has good grip and is anti slip. I tried other mats which were less expensive but nothing served the purpose. I then found Jade yoga mat. Its description says it has "great grip-open cell natural rubber provides optimum grip". ".... is well known for offering terrific slip-resistance. As a result, you no longer have to worry about slipping on your practice mat--even if it gets wet with perspiration". Wow, seemed apt. So even though it was a pinch in the pocket, I thought it should be a good investment after all. Doing yoga in comfort is what is the priority with out having to worry about losing the balance due to slippery mats. Well, the description is absolutely NOT what the mat actually is! The surface of the mat is quite sticky and the back of the mat has a good grip to the floor. I was happy thinking may be atlast i found my mat. But alas, that joy lasted only a few minutes in to the practices. I did the downward dog posture and i slipped right through! My feet and palms kept slipping and did not have any grip. What i noticed was the mat is sticky as long as it is dry. Once the surface comes in contact with the sweat, it get very slippery. Such a disappointment! So i thought, like some mats, may be this needs some kind of conditioning for a few days. I contacted the seller with my issue and asked if i the mat gets better with the use or if anything should be done to improve its grip. The seller replied with this : "Unfortunately I have no further information regarding the yoga mat. I have attached a return label for you to send it back to us and once we receive it we will process your refund." Really? Thats the response! Selling mats with no awareness of how its supposed to perform? Ofcourse i am definitely returning the product. The mat may be useful for those who dont sweat much. But for those like me with sweaty palms and feet, this mat is a definite No No.

Non-slip for real
This is a heavy duty yoga mat , good for hands that slip on all other mats, even the non- slip ones. And the colors are beautiful. They are great quality and last forever. This is my second one only because my ex-boyfriend’s cat loved my old Jade mat almost more than I did. But it was an excuse to get a new color anyway.
