Should you use fabric reinforcement tape with this? Like is recommended with FlashSeal?

Are you talking about the mesh material. First cut your pieces or have a pair of scissors I find her easier to use. Get a cheap paint brush take your time paint above flashing onto the brick above the flashing and lay the mesh over. You got about 10-20 seconds to play with it …after that she gets hard to work with, and you’ll make it look worse. If you need to do a second coat wait until it dries then go back and put a second coat. If you try to go back and add more before it’s dry you’ll just mess it up. 
This is the type of information it takes years to acquire through trial and error. if you don’t do it right, it’s a pain to remove  and then you’re really getting into a sticky situation.

So recap. Depending on the size of the chimney, and I would do med/ large sections at a time. I have your pieces ready put your first coat on lay you mesh pieces and make sure you put your second coat thick enough that  you can’t see the mesh.
