why is this using micro usb? does this company know about USB type C?

The manufacturers are ignoring the issue. We don't care if you include a converter in the box. We want all of our devices to be USB-C, so we don't have to keep carrying around the inferior micro USB cables. Just make the product $250 instead of $249 and give us a type C connection.

Being that this is a condenser mic, how much background noise does it pick up?

It's not a condenser mic; it's a dynamic. The MV7’s unique pick-up pattern keeps it laser-focussed on your voice and prevents any unwanted background or room noise from interrupting your recording.

Can this be used as an usb mic or do you need an xlr/audio interface?

Yes, the MV7 can be easily used as a USB Microphone. If you intend to use the USB connection you do not need an audio interface with XLR inputs.

Has anyone used this mic with the rode psa1 microphone boom - mainly, is the mic heavy enough?

I love my mv7 I’m a full time twitch streamer the only note I will say is buy yourself a good boom arm I have to order a new arm due to the microphone weight but the mic sounds phenomenal the one I have was a cheap boom arm you get what you pay for
