For the price, this is excellent value. Apart from plugging it in there is little installation required. The front grill is actally quite thin plastic, chrome plated. It is attached to the front with little magnets. It looks ok, but I think it would be easily broken if not taken care of. We bought this particular unit because it resembled the old gas fire it replaced. We found that the old brass grill from the previous fire fitted perfectly instead. Looking at the other reviews/ questions, yes, the white 'do not cover' notice does spoil the effect. However, the paint on the hood is black satin, and the notice could be painted out. The LED display does go off after a few seconds. While on 'standby' the standby light remains on. The LED flame effect can be used with the heating part off. Time and day was fairly easy to set, but it loses the information if the power fails or it is unplugged. The manual insists on called the 'Day' as the 'Date', which is confusing . You cannot set the 'date', but you can set the 'day of the week'. There are 10 timer programs which include the day of the week, and times for on and off. Pressing the 1000w and 2000w buttons selects those heat settings, but the button has to be pressed again to turn one heat setting off before the other can be turned on. (A quirk you get used to) Power consumption . . . Fabulous fire.flames look realistic.its good that there is also a thermostat so when room gets to selected heat it switches the fan heater off.once room starts to cool down the fan heater switches back on.also having the remote is very good.very good quality for the price I paid for this fire

It arrived fast. Assembly is minimal and if you read the instructions, set up and operation is easy. It produced none of the clicks and noises others have mentioned except when the thermostat switches on and off with a subdued soft click which is much quieter than I have found in other fan heaters. The thermostat is also more accurate than others I've had although the unit seems reluctant to switch on heat sometimes. The fan is very quiet when heating and can be used in a bedroom while sleeping. The ambient room temp and other info on the screen is useful although the green temp setting is hard to see. The flame effect could be a bit brighter for daytime use and I would like the option to switch it off when heat only is required as in a dark bedroom which is why I give only 4 stars. The chrome finish does not look cheap, but the do not cover sign is annoying (nanny state) so I will buy some matt black spray paint to cover it. I recommend this fire and will likely buy another in a few weeks for the living room.

Good looking fire with remote control. A mixture of plastic and metal.

Needed to replace my old gas fire, decided to go electric. Liked the look of this fire straight away, wasn’t keen on the coal effect so for an extra £10 brought some heat resistant pebbles. The fire itself was so easy to install, that I did it on my own and I’m no diy person. Love you have the flame without the heat, makes the room nice and cozy. The in built timer is a bonus! Brilliant to have that you can set it on for anytime of day, this will be a god send when the cold night start to creep in as I have no central heating, i can now come home to a warm room. The timer does take a bit of working out too start with. The heating itself, works by room temperature for example if you want your room to stay at 24° if the fire is left on auto as soon as your room temperature drops too 22° the fire heater will turn on and goes off as soon as it hits 24°. Saving on electricity. If you need it warmer just turn the temperature up, too warm turn it down . Remote control is very easy to use. The only noise from it is the heater itself when on and if you just have the flame effect, but to be honest after awhile you take no notice of it. Not been able to check the temperature out fully, but when I have had it on the room heats up quickly and this in an open planned small one bedroom house.

Arrived without remote control or instructions. Without the remote you cannot adjust the thermostat, so the manual controls are ineffective and no heat is produced. Also you will need 2 triple A batteries for the remote as these are not supplied. The replacement has arrived with remote and instructions -now works fine and does look great. This one is good value
