Most versatile machete
Excellet garden machete and brush axe! I've been using a Fiskars Brush Axe for years, and it is one of the best tools for clearing vines, tall grasses, chopping, and trail clearing. This new Machete Axe has the familiar hawkbill/billhook shape of the Brush Axe, but with more cutting area and a longer, heavier length. I've already used it to prune trees, and the chisel tip is great for cutting off new growth and chopping roots. The hooked shape is the absolute best for small branches and vines, it bites, holds, and severs with surgical precision. I have not used it as an axe yet, but the heft at the end of the blade should make it easy to use without carrying a separate hatchet. It is fairly heavy and has a large grip area for one- or two-handed use. The included sheath is excellent, however it does not have a belt loop or clip, and you have to unsnap the hilt and peel the velcro down the length to remove the tool. Definitely recommended over a standard machete for gardening. It's a little bulky for hiking, but I'll be giving it a try soon. Hard to top the Brush Axe, and I'm not saying it did, but it's up there and a great tool for the right job. In response to those who docked stars because it's not sharp enough: if you own any axes, machetes, or knives (yes kitchen knives as well), you WILL need to know how sharpening works. There are many ways to do it, from v-blade knife sharpeners, to sharpening rods, stones, leather strops, cotton wheels, and belt sanders. Most commercially-produced blades aside from boxcutters and razors do not come as sharp as they can get. Probably to keep from getting damaged in packaging and transit or from cutting the inexperienced owner. Every machete I've ever bought has been arguably "dull," which is NORMAL. Not everybody wants a 2 foot long straight razor. Some people will use it more for chopping hard wood, some for tall grasses. If this is not sharp enough for your liking, SHARPEN IT. It's not hard, and if it shipped sharp, you'd have to resharpen it after a little use anyway.

DO NOT HESISTATE. BUY THIS FISKARS MACHETTE AXE!
This machette axe is the most amazing brush, vine and limb clearing tool, ever! If you need a solid tool for clearing brush, limbs and vines, DO NOT HESITATE, purchase this Fiskars machette axe. I'm sure it's not recommended, nor do I care, but I was clearing small tree limbs, up to 3" on trees, in a single smooth swipe. I was also able to slice through thick vines and even thin vines of bittersweet growth, that was very abundant. The grip is amazingly comfortable for me, at just over 6' and large size gloves, the handle absorbs the impact extremely well, leaving virtually no fatigue, if you know how to propely swing and use a machette. With both hands or just one, it has an extremely effective slice and weight distribution. The added axe head, can be very useful as well. I cleared an area 1200 square feet or bigger in a matter of a couple hours, taking my sweet time and not overworking myself... I'm too old for that anymore. I considered making a video for this product review, I liked it so much. I've never used a machette with the strength, sharpness, erconomics and longevity of handling ease. I'm the MOST skeptical person, you'll ever meet. I do not write reviews. My personal recommendation, is basically a guarantee, you will not be disappointed. Thank you for your time.

4.5 Star tool. Well made and useful. Great tool to install on tractor.
Surprisingly well built and useful tool. Have all kinds of axes, hatchets, trimmers, etc used on the farm. Regular machete not all that useful. Been clearing overgrowth with lots of super evergreen swedish ivy, honey suckle, poison ivy and looking for a better tool. Use a tractor with grapples to clean the big stuff. Then use this to do the cleanup and cut vines from trees. Worked better than I thought. Pros Good length and great handle. Examining before use thought the blade was too thin, but it worked well and wasn't overly fatiguing to use.Sharpened before I used it, <5 minutes on belt grinder and finished with stone. Blade stays sharp and the forward weight of blade really can cut deep. The slight bill hook makes cutting vines and small limbs safe and effective. . Some vines were 3" think and took multiple strikes to cut through with the hatchet blade. The sheath is very well made. Good price point for a quality tool. Like the combination of edges and tools. Should last a long time. Cons Sheath has no belt loop. Not a problem for me. Pop riveted sheath to the canopy of the tractor to have it readily available. One hand can unsnap strap, rip the substantial velcro pocket open and remove the tool. Feel safe to carry tool this way. We mow with this little tractor so always handy for trimming. The tool is not sharp. All tools have to be sharpened and maintained so no big deal. Haven't found the saw blade section on the back that useful. -0.5 Star Unusual but useful tool to keep around. Makes quick work of smaller stuff and especially viney materials. Price was reasonable. MIght buy another for a 2nd tractor because it worked so well. Highly recommended. . This tool has been very handy for spring cleaning. 140 acre farm, mostly wooded. Pop riveted sheath to tractor ROPS canopy so always handy and safe to carry. Great for clearing small limbs or vines on roads, trails and fences. Chopping into the ground hitting rocks has dulled and slightly chipped blade but expected and easily resharpened. Bought a second one for another tractor. Unlike the the first one the blade came factory sharpened. Clearly could see were the blade coating had been ground to leave a fairly sharp edge..Required little effort to bring it to the sharpness that I like. Enjoying this new tool and like the results from using. Bought another to keep on the 4-wheeler. Fits nicely between the body and front rack. Very handy tool to clear face slappers on trails.

Excellent but watch the price, I've seen it from under $40 to almost $100
Very comfortable handle, about the best I have used, and I put a lot of time on the handle end of several different machetes. If it has good edge-holding ability, it just might replace my military surplus Ontario heavy machete as my favorite. I haven't used it enough yet to see how well it holds an edge long-term, so I'm hesitant to give it 5 stars as of yet. Also, the sheath, while it provides for a safe way to store a sharp blade, doesn't have any way to carry on a belt, or even attach to a pack, it is just a cover for safety, and it is kind of clumsy and slow to use. That said, the design of the blade itself is excellent. Cuts like a machete, with a bit extra forward weight from the shallow axe-like head, for better chopping ability. The bottom part of the axe head is sharpened and works very well as a brush and vine hook. Very comfortable handle that is shaped so it won't slip in use, about the most secure I have experienced. A little bigger than I expected, this is a real man-sized working tool, and heavy...if you don't have strong arms you will tire quickly swinging this thing. However, for chopping brush, it is the best thing I have used so far. If you ever used an axe on saplings, and wished it was 'sharper' so it wouldn't bend them over, this is for you. If you ever used a machete, and wished it had just a little more 'heft' to get through tough stuff, this is for you. Heck, if zombies are attacking, this is probably for you, as well (VERY intimidating blade). Unlike other reviewers, mine arrived sharp, not so sharp as to cut yourself by just looking at it, but sharp enough I could shave hair off my arm with it. Improve the sheath (for ease of use, the design really is quite safe considering the size of the blade) and I'd give it 5 stars.

Awesome for small trees & briars.
This is a great yard work tool. It is NOT a great hiking/expedition tool. PROS: The undercut of the axe-head is great to use a kind of bush-hook; if you keep it sharp, you can use a hook-and-pull motion to make quick work of briars (even the hard, woody, mature ones). The extra heft at the end makes it easy to hack through 2-3 inch softwood tree trunks & woody vines/shrubs (willows, cottonwoods, dogwood, grapevine, poison ivy, virginia creeper, etc are all no problem) with just a single blow using only one hand. I use a downward motion, one-handed, to shave 1-1.5 inch branches off the trunks of old overgrown oaks to make it easy to walk/mow under them. Oak branches between 2-3 inches can be done 2-handed, but anything over that can cause bending. Holding it with both hands and using a little extra effort & muscle, I've gone through a few 3-4 inch hackberry trees in 2-3 well-placed blows, but doing so repeatedly does cause some minor bending (which can be fixed using a shop vice). The handle is the best I've used (comparing to Gerber, Ontario, Galivan, etc) both in terms of grip (one-handed and 2-handed are both excellent) and for avoiding blisters after hours of sweaty use. CONS: It is *not* so great for trekking through dense growth; that is, if your goal is rapid forward movement, going from point-A to point-B through a thicket, this is NOT the machete you want. For all the virtues of the axe-like head and the undercut/bush-hook, these features also make it easy to get tangled in vegetation as you move along. Reading other reviews, I noticed that a lot of people mentioned that it arrives quite dull; this is true. Out of the package, it is as dull as a spoon. I don't know why Fiskers would do this, but it definitely is not "ready to go" straight out of the package -- you will need to sharpen it before using.

Amazing half machete half hatchet!
I dont write reviews awesome but this tool is awesome. I just bought a house and used this to clear out about 10 large bushes and ingrown areas around my property. Made short work of everything. Its like a machete and can easily clear out vines, large weeds and brush. Its like a small hatchet or brush axe in the way that with a few good swings at alternating angles like you use a hatchet, you can easily get through wooden bush trunks about 5 inches in diameter and tree branches. I even hit rocks several times throughout the morning and it held its edge all day with no significant edge deformation. My only complaint maybe is that my fingers started to ache a bit sometimes, but thats really just me workin too hard lol. The grip is super comfortable 1 or 2 handed. A must have for any home owner. Id rather have one of these than a weedwhacker, brush axe, loppers, bow saw, hatchet, hedge trimmer, etc. Buy one you wont regret it.

First impressions were dismal
Item arrived quickly but as typical, the packaging was destroyed and the handle and blade took some damage. Handle had minor scuffs but the blade was bent. Nothing major and i was able to straighten the blade out but not how one want's to receive a new tool. Hence the 3 stars and it will stay 3 stars for that alone. Much similar to other post, the edge is a joke to say the least. It will definitely have to be sharpened before its first use. Overall the fit and finish is good and I'm still pleased and excited to try it out. I bought this to be a quicker approach then my chainsaw when I'm on the trail and don't want to brush whip my Taco. The machette/axe feels very well balanced and the grips on the handle feel great. It does have a bit of heft to it but easily wielded with one hand, however there is plenty of room to get both hands on the handle for more control and a more powerful swing. I do believe it will make for a great tool after I get it dialed in. Minor disappointments upon receiving but I trust the Fiskars brand and look forward to many years of use. I'll drop another review after a couple months of use.

A beast of a blade
This is an excellent brush and clearing tool. I’ve been using it to dress branched from a trimmed tree. It is very well balanced with a great light weight for swinging all day. The head makes a solid hatchet, and although not razor sharp out of the box: it’s plenty sharp for hardwood. There is some lateral give to the blade I didn’t expect, but if used properly you’ll never notice.

Great product
Works very well. But not super sharp out of the package. Don't buy the fiskars sharpener. Get a good quality one and a stone.

If you have the use for it
Works great. Not all edges are sharpened but they don’t need to be, the inside edge is sharpened all the way around. The curve is sharp and is what I use most for slashing through brush and grass. This is not a precision tool, you will leave at least six inches of brush above ground.
