Best skimmer for the money. Incredible WET skimmer!
I have a beautiful, 8 month old 36.25x13x24" reef tank and I am running all H.O.B. equiopment on this reef, as opposed to my 150 gallon reef, in which I run an under-the-stand sump/refugium. I run the coralife 220 on that system. I also have two all-in-one systems, a 29 biocube and a fluval spec v. They're great for the nano reef, and pico reef (respectively) that I am running in them. Onto the Coralife 65g Super Skimmer. Buy it. Whether you're going to be running it H.O. or in sump, buy it. This is the best skimmer for the money. Those that don't like it either didn't set it up right, or prefer an extremely dry running skimmer, or prefer a skimmer that doesn't require a specific water height in the sump. Anyways, those are valid preferences, but certainly not negatives of the coralife super skimmer series. Most skimmers, especially larger skimmers, require you to buy the water pump seperate for the skimmer. Not in the Coralife super skimmers case. In case of the 65g, they provide a 575gph (I believe?) water pump, with a venturi line. If you run it H.O., it includes a nice return box with sponge. This gets rid of the micro bubbles entering the display tank very well. Contrary to some other folks, I believe it is only necessary to clean this every 3-4 months. It becomes a great growth area for pods/mysis/other little reef "bugs". It also is better in perfectly preventing microbubbles when the sponge has that build up in it. You sometimes have to adjust the skim setting when it is Hung On the tank after turning the unit off in order to empty the collection cup. However the collection cup is massive, and takes up to 45 days to fill completely with thick-gooey skimmate. This thing CAN dry skim and wet skim, but it does best in between, creating a nice, thick, but not dry, skimmate, similar consistency and look of motor oil. Great skimmer for the money. You won't regret it.

Too many problems to be considered quality
the ONLY reason this skimmer got 2 stars not 1 is because when it works it works fairly well however... The Coralife super skimmer is a product lacking user friendly operation. This skimmer can work great at times and then go completely out of whack any second. The bubble reduction box is a joke, and just takes up a large amount of space while still letting micro bubbles spew out. Slight changes in the water chemistry cause the collection cup to overflow easily (as the problem with many skimmers). The pump gave out in only 3 months, completely dead out of the blue. The skimmer is not in any way quiet. I thought it was against the wall causing it to vibrate, but sadly i realize this skimmer has a annoying humming problem. When you can get it too work it works rather well for the price, but is too touchy to be considered a product i would repurchase, or recommend to anyone else. On a side note, the pump when used in hob should be about 3" from the surface for optimal use. THIS IS IMPOSIBLE. even when the tube is cut at its shortest possible length the pump will be 6-7" under the water surface. Im switching to an in sump set up because even though this skimmer works HOB, it works so poorly an takes away from the tank. If your considering this skimmer i highly suggest checking out a reef octopus skimmer first and spend the little extra money to save you from headaches and money spent in repairs. LAST CORALIFE PRODUCT I WILL BUY FOR MY TANK! EDIT - 1 year of use Can't stand the skimmer. Doesn't work well in my sump system at all. Salt creep clogs up the air outlet daily causing the skimmer to sputter out of control. Foam builds in cone but doesn't skim. Starts to get a good skim going then looses it and fills cup with water even though I have a constant water level. Will have to buy a new skimmer now.

A must have, works awesome
Right out the box it took me a while to hook up this skimmer, guess it was easier looking at the photos on the box and assemble this unit. First putting it in the tank, it produced lots of bubbles both in the unit and most of all in the tank wow what a mess!! I have a 55g salt water with corals and fish I needed something to work well with my investments, anyway, I found out that the shorter house that's connected to the pump works best and produced right mixture of air and water, after running this thing for 3 days the fourth day it just magically start working as it should, it did say a break in period, just leave it turn off the light and go do something else. I did not have to cut anything to make it work, just a little patience that I didn't have at all, so leave the bubbles in the tank alone, I only had the inflow valve set on half, then when it start working well I opened it to full, and with the red water level was set to almost between 80-90%, hope this makes sense, but no bubbles in my tank at all, water is crystal clear and clean. I had the Prizm red sea skimmer and thought I had a good skimmer until I go this one, oh my gosh I emptied the cup 5 days after it started working properly, some serious gunk in there real dark green and smelly, it was pulling out stuff like a sewer, to really clean the cup you need to unplug and unscrew the cup then wash it, but there is also a leak valve at the bottom of the cup, there is a small tube for this, and that's what I use when I don't want to unplug and fully clean, this skimmer is so quiet and smoother, only sound you hear is the little bubbles going back into the tank from the bubble diffuser. I have been running it for 2 weeks now and no problem just save all your tubing and connections. Its a bit bulky expecially above my T5 light.

I'm impressed!
Let me start out by saying I bought this 65 gallon model as a replacement for a two week-old SeaClone 100, and am I glad! I found this in the local Petco for $199 and looked it up on thier website, where they wanted $119 + Tax with free shipping, the store refused to match thier own website price. So I was planning to buy it from the website, but then I said "Self, you're an Amazon Prime member, lets check the price there!", so I did. So with a shipping upgrade of $3.99, in less than 24 hours the box was at my front door; total cost: $115.19, enough said! OPERATION: Now for the product, so after setting this up (like all the others say, throw out the directions, they are useless) I could not get it to work properly (pumped water but no bubbles), after disassembling checking everything, and reassembling, it still would not produce bubbles; I could have saved a hour plus by simply blowing in the air tube and kick-starting the venturi action (doh!), so try this first! Within minutes this unit produced more foam and removed more protein than the SeaClone 100 did in two weeks; and 24 hours later the micro-bubble pattern in the unit is starting to take shape, reducing the amount of bubbles pumped into the tank. I hope that when it breaks in the bubbles in the tank cease completely, so I will update this in a few more days. It wasn't to difficult to balance the flow, I set the output valve to 50% then adjusted the input valve, located near the pump, until the water and micro-bubble concentration point was halfway up the cup port; this allows me to use the ouput adjustment to set the levels for either the "Dry Skim" or "Wet Skim" methods as described in the directions (the only useful part of the manual). DESIGN: The unit does not fit well on an aquarium with a glass hood; the hard 90 degree input bend extends past the two inches allowed for hang-on-tank (HOT) equipment. I was able to put enough twist to get the glass on, but it's a very tight fit (pictures above). The HOT bracket needs to be adjustable, or the hard 90's need to be replaced with the flex tubing as shown in the actual directions that are included. I will be looking for a way to extend the bracket myself, just because I don't like the hardware pushing against and vibrating my glass hood. The air tube is connected to what I guess is either a muffler or small backflow cup, but there is nowhere to mount this component; on the box they show it on top of the HOT bracket, so with a little velcro, that is now where mine is placed. The collection cup: I have to assume the manufacturer swapped out the cups in the "Newly Designed" models with the 125, this cup is huge and comes with the drain (cap and short drain tube included), I plan on adding a longer draintube so I can run it to a jug in the cabinet when I want to run it as a wet skimmer. TROUBLESHOOTING TIP: When you get it turned on and the unit sucks up your water and does NOT produce any micro-bubbles, don't disassemble it looking for obstructions as indicated by the chart in the directions. Just blow into the air tube and it will start working, this will save you at least an hour of frustration. OVER-ALL: I like this skimmer, it's not even broken-in yet, and it works great! There is a really noticeable difference in the amount of micro-bubbles entering the tank as it runs longer, hopefully by the time it breaks in, there will be zero bubbles.

Good skimmer for the money
Had no issues with getting the skimmer set up and running. Took about 45 mins. Pretty simple if you've had a skimmer before. Pretty easy to adjust the flow. You will have to get your hands wet as the flow adjuster is by the pump. Broke in after a few days and had to readjust flow. Haven't touched it since then. My tank has a rim and it still works fine. Can't really tighten the skimmer down on the rim but it sits on the back with no issues at all and doesn't move around. Really like that you can run a drain hose (included) to a bucket or container of your choice. So you don't have to empty the skimate cup, which is actually decent sized. The cup screws off so it takes a few seconds to unscrew it. Now I only take the cup off to clean it out every month or so. The skimmer works great. It does what it is supposed to. Get out the crap. I have it on my 75 gallon tank and it's doing a good job. Wouldn't hesitate to get another one for the price. Sure you can spend a lot more and get a better skimmer but this is great bang for the buck. I'll update if I have any issues, only had this about four months.

Cup Broke after one month
Let me first make clear that the only Coralife Protein Skimmer that works is the 125 gallon. The other models are junk. I verified this with my Fish dealer who has 40 years experience. I thought it was me because I purchased a 65 gallon one for my Reef Tank and it was CRAP. CRAP was the word my dealer used for the "newly designed" 65 gallon one, which has a number of "fixes" and excuses for the poor design on it's support page on how to position the device on your tank. It's the users fault not the designer. I beg to differ. This unit works great. I would highly recommend using it as it keeps my overcrowded 125 gallon tank crystal clear every day. There are over 25 fish swimming actively all day long in waste free water. The fish are happy and healthy due to this product. Proper filtration is the most important aspect of a healthy environment. Salt Water fish are not cheap, and this product keeps your investments healthy and happy, working silently behind the scene. I originally gave this product a 5 star review but had to remove two stars when the cup broke after one month. It is made of cheap plastic that cracked. This unit overflows all of the time. It ended up short circuiting my lighting when it poured water out onto the electrical chords. One day I left the house and forgot something. I returned home to find the unit draining water out of my tank at an alarming rate. Use these devices with great caution. I purchased my first unit from a local dealer and it cracked. When I replaced it he told me to assemble it because I am weak. The unit is NOT solid and is prone to crack which is why I had to purchase a replacement cup that they sell. It makes you wonder why they sell a replacement cup. So if you want floods, cheap parts and have to worry if you leave your house might get flooded, this one is for you. Many times I wake in the middle of the night thinking my tank is flooding if I hear sounds of water from other tanks I have. A different model I use actually came with a warning..."This Device Will Cause Flooding. Use With Caution". It verified my fear that it wasn't "just me", these skimmers are dangerous.

So far, so good
Just installed today and everything is working as advertised. Initially was not producing bubbles, so took the air hose off unscrewed the cap that goes over the propeller and put it all back together. Something must have been loose because that did the trick. It is pretty small but it has a large footprint. I got it as a HOB for an AOI and it needs more space than I thought it would. The bubble diffuser is offset in a box, I think that's what makes it feel like it takes up more space. It is loouuudddd. The air silencer is not very effective. If you take a 6-8 inch piece of air hose and attach it to the air silencer it reduces the noise considerably, but there is still a hum. The cup has a drain/hose on it, but it is not very secure so you have to be careful if you are messing with the unit and there's water in the cup. I knocked the tube off a couple times and got water everywhere. Like a lot of the other reviews say, the instructions are a little on the lighter side, but it isn't unmanageable...who reads the instructions anyway lol. I think this is a newer model with older model instruction, there was a couple of minor things in the instructions that didn't add up. Like the tube for the outlet is not as described, for example. Little things like that. All in all, though, I am happy with it. For the price it isn't going to be perfect, but it looks like it is going to work well. It puts off good foam, so I am assuming it will skim well. I am happy with it.

Super Finicky, Flooded Twice
So, the first sign of problems with this skimmer was that there is no hose barb on the skimmer side of the hose connector for the pump. Despite using various clamps, the hose would never hold on for more than a day. Eventually I cut off the original non-barbed connector and glued on a barbed connector. After that, the skimmer worked very nice. Was getting good skimmate, quiet, seemed reliable. However, after a few months it stopped producing any skimmate. Took it apart, cleaned the pump. Still nothing. I set it so that the bubble head was just at the red ring. Produced skimmate for a day. Then, suddenly the cup filled up and overflowed. Luckily I was feeding the fish at the time and shut the skimmer off before it emptied the tank. So I reduced the head height some more. Skimmer was fine for several weeks although was still producing almost no skimmate. Woke up this morning to find 20 gallons of water on the floor because the skimmer overflowed again and emptied out half the tank. This was after it had been "working" for several weeks, with no adjustment. I would not recommend this skimmer to anyone! If you are going to use it, install a float valve in the cap to shut the skimmer off if the cup fills too high!

Noisy and damaged pump
Product was well packaged, however the pump needle holder is damaged causing pump to run extremely noisy. Overall works fine, just have to buy replacement pump...

EXCELENTE SKIMMER A BUEN PRECIO.
Llevo 3 meses usándolo en una pecera de 140 L marina y ha estado Perfecto. Por el precio creo que es una excelente opción ya qué hay otros que cuestan el triple. Tengo varios corales y han estado Perfecto así que creo es una buena opción.
