Great Test, Photos Disappointing
In its 27 pages, this book contains a considerable amount of information. It's unusually well written with a lovely flow that makes it a great read-aloud for a child too young to read it on his own (say 4 and up - or even 3 if you've got a real book-lover.). The photos are large, but rather disappointing in subject choice and lack of much color and contrast. I'd say the reading level is about 4th grade.

Animal Life
A terrific book for a 6 year, boy; that is totally fascinated by outdoor life, and especially animals. The book was very informative, and was enjoyed by adult readers. Well worth the cost.

Second Copy!
This book has been so popular that I had to buy a second copy for my classroom! The photographs and text are perfect for a fourth grade classroom! We have squirrels here in our city, and the children are curious to learn more about our little friends!

Pet
I expected more from the book by the description I read. I guess it was ok to read for the 5 minutes it took to get through it.

Squirrels
I bought this book for my kindergarten students, but it would probably be better suited for 2nd grade. There is a lot of text, and the pictures are a little small, so it is hard to use as a whole class read-aloud. However, with older children, I think it would be great!

Squirrels by Diane Swanson
This little book is well done if all you want is basic information about squirrels. It has good pictures, is well written, excellent and fairly brief but good information about these fun but pesky little creatures.

Just a glossy pamphlet; not a fact-filled book
Hmmm. This isn't really a book; it's more of a glossy pamphlet running to just 27 large-font pages, half of which are (admittedly rather good) photos. It takes less than ten minutes to read the book in its entirety. Also, it's unashamedly a US book so a fair chunk is allocated to flying squirrels and the like, rather than featuring the squirrels typically found in British gardens. What little information the pamphlet does contain is rather old fashioned and includes pre-Darwinian phrases such as 'the squirrel has sharp front teeth designed for gnawing'.If your objective in wanting to buy a squirrel book is to explore detailed information about these fascinating animals you will need to look elsewhere.

Not a good buy for me.
In a way the flaw for me is in the misleading title. The book deals with different varieties of squirrel across the world rather than the world red squirrels inhabit. I was looking for more information about British red squirrels as the picture on the cover of the book suggests. There was little about British reds. There is no indication, either that is is a children's book.At £5 it was a big disappointment. I got more info on line and so it was a waste of money.
