Professional quality
Im an electrician. This is a great bit for a plug in drill or a milwaukee hole hawg with a large forge battery. Takes alot of torque but its up to the challenge. Get about 3 months of medium daily use.

Takes a powerful drill
First, what I'm going to say is not a problem with the drill bit. It is a wonderful tool, very fast, very effective in what it is designed for- straight deep holes in wood. Use a powerful1/2" plug-in drill. A 1/2" battery drill won't come close. My drill motor weighs about 12lbs and has two long handles to make it a tee. I used a speed controller to slow it down to about 80%. The drill can't pull the bit any slower. It bound up and banged the 18" handle against the joists. Not the bits problem. You get a big bit you need to prepare for it. Here's what I did to make it easier to use. The reason it works so well is the lead screw on the tip. It pulls the bit into the wood at a fast rate if you run the bit fast. Just reduce the pull of the screw by drilling a pilot hole in the wood. I used a bit about 1/2 the size of the screw tip. It can't bite as much wood so it won't pull as hard. It still went fast but a lot safer in tight spaces.

Great for Sweedish fire logs
I had tried a few different auger bits and the common problem was that they couldn't drill into the end grain of an oak log. This bit does it almost too well. I believe the reason it works so well is because the starter threads at the tip are longer than other bits I tried and they pull the bit right into the wood. I also like the 2 notches on either side of the cutting edge. I believe these prevent the bit from digging in to hard on either side and binding up which can be dangerous with a bit this size. Over all if you had a hard time finding a reliable auger bit that can cut end grain on hardwood, then your search is over.

Solid quality piece of hardware for the job I needed.
I got this auger drill bit in order to drill hole through rail road ties so I could hammer Rebar through them and secure the ties to the ground. This auger bit was very much up to the job. It ate into the rail road ties just fine. The only problem I had was the the battery drill I was using was not up to the job. I needed to get my impact driver to finish the job. One admonition, this auger bit is self tapping, so removing it from something as large as a rail road tie was a challenge for me. But that had more to do with the tools I was using rather that the bit itself. This auger bit is a solid well-made bit that will work fine for some time to come.

Bit kicks butt
I purchased this bit to drill x18 full length (15" deep) holes in the ends of some 4x4 cedar posts, so against the grain. This bit hasn't flinched, cuts great after a LOT of work. Takes a big drill to run it well, but the bit itself is amazing, would buy again in a heartbeat.

It's a beauty but your 1/2" drill will need lots of torque. I had to borrow a battery powered one which handled it no problem.

This is an amazing addition to the tool kit. Tough and sharp! I recommend using on powered equipment.
