Riot On Sunset Strip: Rock 'n' roll's Last Stand In Hollywood (Revised Edition)

Very detailed, even beyond what other accounts give.
This author has gone into great detail and analyzed things that are not mentioned in other writings about the music and groups of the late 60s. It is evident that he has gone deep, including things not publicly admitted before. I feel I have a more complete view and understanding of the Sunset Strip in 1966 and what was going on behind it at the time. This book tells what was left out of other descriptions. Highly recommended.

Nice Slice Of Musical History
While the title is a date in LA history, the content is more the riot of LA musical development during the mid Sixties. It’s quiet a descent effort of documenting the personalities and groups that created “the Sunset Bvld” scene of the era. There’s some nice backstory to the clubs that made up this entertainment scene and the political undercurrents that ended with the police/teenagers confrontation. It’s author has a newspaper background and that’s reflected in the writing style. Well worth reading

There's somethin' happening here...
I bought the paper edition of this back in 2006 and in September got the Kindle update, and this is a wonderful deep dip into Los Angeles Southern California social music history from 50 years ago. If you want to know about music and L.A. this is the book for you. You can go in as a music novice and come out an expert if you pay close attention. Priore is an exciting writer. His sense of history is appreciated and his detail and accuracy is excellent. There are, I have to note, some minor mistakes (Billy Preston doesn't play on the Beatles' Revolution song and Roger McGuinn does the amazing guitar solo on the Byrds' Change Is Now, for two), but they don't spoil the overall flow. The photos are bunched together on the kindle so the paper edition is likely a little more fun to read, but I love this book and highly recommend it.

Fabulous Book!
Incredibly detailed with several pages of photos and a map of all the places as they used to be on the Sunset Strip..this book is sure to please! I purchased it for my son, who loves all things Vintage Los Angeles, and he took it with him on his latest trip down there. This book is a must buy for anyone interested in that time.

Extensively detailed but a little dull
An extensive history of the sunset strip & L.A. music scene. There's no denying the amount of knowledge Dominic Priore pours into the book. However, at times it's almost as though he is just listing band after band, the majority who I had never heard of & probably neither had the 60's L.A kids at the time. It wasn't quite what I expected. I would have preferred more focus on the main groups, byrds, beach boys, CSN etc.

Lots of detail
A detailed review of Sunset Strip area businesses in the post war period. More detail than you might want in some cases?

Heard a review on BBC radio 6 and thought it would be perfect for my husband's stocking - he loves the book as he's into The Doors, Byrds and the general history of this kind of music, lots to read and a fair few photos.

Not what I was looking for
Seems a good book rammed with info but not what I was wanting the reason there’s no hard hitting stories about individuals on the music scene
