Before pregnancy I had never encountered constipation and during the course of it I learned a lot about this perticular complication. The suppositories are super tiny, so easy to hide in a bag if needed, it was easy to use and quick to apply. Took around 15-20 minutes to start kicking in. Also way gentler than other methods I had used to resolve constipation before. If I had to experience that again, I would absolutely use these instead. Only note is they'll work so well that you'll want to be careful about eating anything too heavy for about 24 hours. It won't make you sick, but it will glide through the digestive system with a bit more ease than one is used to.

I recently had a perianal abscess surgery (incision and drainage) on Monday. I had a normal bowel movement on Tuesday, but after taking pain meds for a few days, I became extremely constipated. By day three, I hadn’t gone at all, and when the urge finally hit, I realized how bad it was. It was honestly terrifying — the stool was so hard and compacted that my body literally couldn’t pass it. I was especially scared because I have an open surgical wound in that area, and I did NOT want to strain. The pressure was intense, I felt nauseous, and I was in so much discomfort (and I’ve had 3 kids, so I know what that kind of pressure feels like). Out of desperation, I ordered the Fleet Liquid Glycerin Suppositories late at night (around 11pm). They arrived the next morning at 8:30am. I used one around 9am in a kneeling position. By 9:10am — I’m not exaggerating — I was able to have a bowel movement that I had been dreading. And the best part? It passed with ZERO pain. I was honestly shocked. No straining, no tearing, no worsening of my surgical site — just relief. This suppository worked like a charm in minutes both times I've used it. The tip of the applicator is really hard. You have to relax instead of trying to force it in. If you do that, it doesn't hurt to insert. I am very pleased that I tried this. Immediate relief, no cramping later in the day, and I was basically fighting to make it to the bathroom in time within minutes. I also had a large stool slide out easily, which normally would have caused me pain.

If you're reading reviews for these suppositories, then you must be in trouble - and I'm so sorry! The good news is that these little gems really do work! There is nothing as distressing as having the urgent need to go, but you can't because everything feels all hard and backed up. The passing of the fecal matter, when it finally happens, is super stressful and extremely painful. I had just such a situation and have treated it with a multifaceted approach: 1) Make yourself drink water regularly. Set an alarm if you have to, but you must stay hydrated! 2) Eat plenty of fibrous vegetables to add bulk. I've taken fiber supplements, since I don't eat that much anymore, 3) Stool Softeners are super helpful - my doctor recommended Colace, and 4) If you get jammed up, try these easy to use glycerine suppositories. They're tiny! Just pull the cap off the stem, insert according to the package directions, squeeze the bulb to insert the glycerine, pull it out and discard the little bulb with stem, then you wait. Stick close to the bathroom, because this can work as fast as just a few minutes. Try to hold it as long as you can so that water can be drawn into the colon. The next thing you know, you are going to feel so much better! Consider having some Witch Hazel pads handy if there is too much discomfort afterwards - they can provide tremendous relief for raw and irritated areas. These things come in a package of four for around $5 or thereabouts. Considering the alternative - a trip to the Emergency Room - I'd say that these are an excellent value for the fast relief that they provide. Definitely a must-have for the home medicine kit!
