Love it
This Japanese wood chisel has quickly become one of the standout tools in my kit. The moment you pick it up, the craftsmanship is obvious. The laminated steel blade holds an incredibly sharp edge, and it slices through hardwood with a level of precision that makes detailed work feel effortless. Even after extended use, the edge retention is impressive far better than most Western chisels I’ve used. The balance is excellent, with a comfortable handle that feels natural in the hand whether I’m paring or tapping with a mallet. The hoop is well‑fitted, and the overall build gives the sense that this tool is designed to last decades, not years. What I appreciate most is the control it offers. Fine joinery, clean mortises, delicate trimming everything comes out crisp and accurate. It’s the kind of tool that elevates the quality of your work simply by being a pleasure to use. If you value precision, durability, and traditional craftsmanship, this chisel is absolutely worth adding to your bench.

High quality chisel for a good price.
I've bought a few Kakuri tools in the past (Japanese chisels, planes, hammers and measuring equipment) and I get the impression that they're aimed at the serious DIYer/hobbyist market. They're always high quality, but competitively priced, as is this chisel. Comes sharp and ready to use (apart from driving the top ring more tightly on to the handle, as is the Japanese tradition) and with some pictorial instructions which can be followed without reading Japanese.

Exactly as described
I had seen good reviews for this brand and wasn't disappointed. The chisel is performing exactly as I had hoped it would. Great product with fast service.

Jap chisel
Better than the English equivalent, I had a fatmax which was really good when it eventually broke I opted for this having started to use a lot of Japanese tools, I'm very happy with the price and quality of this tool.

Came with a tiny dent in the corner of the edge so had to regrind them
Had a small ding on the edge so I’ve had to regrind it. Once done it’s a nice chisel and seems to hold an edge.

Mine did horizontal paring of tenon in grey iron bark (Australia) straight out of the packet. Excellent. Mike

Good weight, feels nicely balanced in the hand. Steel seems high quality, typical Japanese hardness, so the cutting edge holds its sharpness but it very brittle. Mine was basically sharp, but needed me to add a micro-bevel before it passed the paper cutting test. I think I will get many years of pleasure from using this tool.

Shipped fast and looked good. As a woodworker and owner of other brands I took a wetstone to the blade, and spent some time on it. It did come pretty sharp but I still did some fine tuning! Strong construction and slices through like butter! Very happy with price and quality! Went back and bought the 4 pcs set !
