Wahl Professional Animal Pet, Dog, and Cat Ultimate Nail Grinder Trimming Kit (5973)

I bought this one month after purchasing a Drumel that turned out to be an expensive waste of money. The Drumel brand product did not work as the replacement files did not fit correctly onto the filing attachment. And forget their customer service as I requested assistance and received a Non-reply to my e-mail. Frustrated, unsure of what to get next, as I needed a product that would work longer than a month, I purchased a WHAL. Upon set-up, I had difficulty (set-up instructions are not very good, just call the provided customer service number, and they will get you set-up and running), so I needed to contact the listed customer service help number provided within the included instructional set-up literature within the carrying case. To my surprise, I was extremely pleased with my contact to their customer service. The woman went "above and beyond" to assure my complete satisfaction with set-up and use of the product; as well, she was amazingly helpful, kind, proficient and a willing customer service rep. Upon speaking to the rep and her willingness to assure my positive experience with set-up and use of my new WHAL, I will NOT USE ANY OTHER BRAND OFFERED AGAIN for trimming my dog's nails. Yes, their customer service is seriously that GREAT! In addition, after using the Wahl product for over a month, I have already used it often, on two dogs (my large German Shepherd, plus my small, Terrier mix); I must say, I have no complaints on the ease of use, the effectiveness or customer service that this product offers. Also, I like the rate of speed as it can be adjusted while trimming their nails to a speed that is slower or anywhere in-between to faster. My dogs are unable to tolerate the same speed, thus I have to adjust the speed for each. The machine is easy to hold, use, replace attachment parts/sanding papers, and is light-weight enough to use for an extended period of time.

Oh. My. Goodness. Where has this product been my entire life. I have two dogs, both fairly large. An 80lb rottweiler/husky mix, and a 50lb pit/lab mix. Let me start by saying the larger dog HATES when I do her nails. It gets to the point where I get annoyed and give up every time I start. So her nails had gotten pretty bad. I try about once every two weeks to go back and fix it, but I end up giving up before I finish because the cordless Dremel I've used for the last few years just doesn't do the trick, regardless of the fact it's supposed to be the top of the line product for nail grinders. It got so bad that I finally took to amazon to try a new product. After a bit of research, I decided to go with a corded product this time around hoping the power was enough for my dogs' thick nails. This was delivered today and I am beyond pleased. In thirty minutes I was able to do both dogs' nails. The power held up perfectly; the speed of the grinder was just right, and it worked flawlessly to stop the incessant click-clack as they walk across my hardwood floor. I mean I know it's only been one use, but I definitely recommend this product. Will update review if anything changes.

I purchased this to replace an older model, and the first item I received was missing the collet nut to hold the dremel band and stem onto the motorized handle side. Return was fairly easy and once the replacement was delivered I brought the first one to Kohls for quick and easy return. The second item was perfect, no missing pieces, and worked as expected. I've used this many times now with my dogs and the cord is long enough to make this easy to use. Very happy after getting the functional item with all working pieces!

I purchased 2 of these on January 6th, 2026. Both were frustrating by March 7th. They would not turn on from one moment to the next. If it was running but I would have to pause to comfort the dog or speak with a client, 2 seconds later it would not come back on. Horrible product!! One doesn't work at all anymore. I expected better from a Wahl product.

I can't say my puppy adores having her nails filed now. This is better than I hoped and worth the price. I have a black pup with black nails--very hard to see her nails and even harder to trim. I firmly believe in trimming every 1-2 weeks to maintain good nail health. This grinder is a happy solution to smoothing edges right away since I can't do that by taking her for a walk onconcrete. Five stars - originally I gave 4 stars because I had an issue with the sandpaper sliding off a bit. Then I realized it was operator error! If I had actually read the directions first, I would have seen how to use the little wrench tool to tighten the sandpaper on by making an adjustment on top of the black wheel. Amazing how much better it works when I use it correctly. Overall, a very good tool. Pretty quiet. Wish it had a buffer stone though. *If you find this review helpful, please select HELPFUL below.

Buyers take note. I give this tool 5 stars per the performance! I LOVE the steady power supply with the variable speed dial & I LOVE HOW IT WORKS. Unfortunately, I rate the cord at 1 star. I ordered mine May 25th this year & received this tool within 2 days. I Started having to jiggle the wire at the base as the power began cutting on and off randomly around the beginning of October. In the middle of using this tool & struggling with it the grinder finally shorted out completely today.

I am ordering this product today. I always take the time to read the reviews prior to any purchase. That, I recommend to everyone. After all. That is why they are there. In reading the reviews, I found that the two main trouble spots seem to be, the vague instructions, And the collet style of the tool. This 'is' a 'collet' style tool. There is no difference between this tool and something like a 'Dremel ®' power tool. Agreed. If you are not familiar with this style, sometimes it can be a bit tricky. But its design is no more difficult than putting a drill bit in a key-less chuck power hand drill. If you do have a bit of a snug fit when putting the grinding bit into the collet. Loosen the chuck even more until it fits. Also. The very design of a collet may give the feel that the bit will not fit. (See picture) Loosen the chuck, wiggle and push the bit into the collet. This will help to spread the collet fingers apart a fraction. A drop of a light weight oil will help as well. But remember, this is a friction retention style for holding the bit in place. Oil reduces the friction ability thru lubrication. If you need more information on Collet style tools, please Google search 'Collet chuck tools'. 'YouTube' is also a fantastic resource for information. As for myself, and I recommend this tool for all, I am disregarding the less than 4 star ratings. I have this style of tool in 110v electric and air powered as industrial tools. But they are far too loud to use on my dogs. I hope 'my opinion' helps with making your decision. Thanks. Ron

I trim my dog nails with a similar tool that has rechargeable battery, that one worked for about 4 years, and then the battery stopped holding the charges. I had to do research to find a unit that is plugged in (no battery) as I need it to work for longer than 4 years, and I found this new Wahl nail grinder. I like the feel of the tool, it's not bulky which allows for greater grip for my relatively small hand. It doesn't make a lot of noise which works well for my dog. Overall it's a great buy and I am glad I found this plugged in nail grinder from Wahl.

This is the second nail grinder I've purchased and I'm really happy with this product. First of all, it's very quiet. My labradoodle doesn't turn a hair when I use it on her nails. I like that it's an electrical plug-in--no worry about charging batteries or running out of power in the middle of doing the dog's nails. It's also very lightweight and with the multi-speed adjustment, it's very versatile. Everything fits snugly. I've had no issues. I like that if you should get hair or something caught, it automatically switches off. I really recommend this grinder. This is my second Wahl product--I have one of their trimmers and it's worked beautifully for over six years now.

Brand new it does not work

Shipping was quicker than expected I used the the bigger nail grinder and works amazing bit when I tried to put on small grinder attachment it wont work my husband tried as well . Now I have to go buy a small grinder attachment after already spending money on this 🤬
