Why does Olympus say this can't be used in combination with the silicone jacket (camera cover)? Is there not enough clearance? Can one just trim it?

If the cap is put on over the case, the cap will be difficult to twist open. If the case is trimmed to accommodate the cap, it could be prone to tearing during instillation or removal.

What is the olympus lb-t01 lens barrier made of? the after market ones are abs.

Sorry I haven't put mine through my mass spectrometer. It is a very well made accessory. Perhaps you should ask Olympus. What if it's not ABS? Does it have to be?

Yes, the camera will remain water tight with the lens cover on, though the cover should be removed after getting the camera wet to help dry out the external mounting ring.
