I work in metrology specifically as a measurement subject matter expert. Bought this for DIY engine work; Normally I’d want to buy mitutoyo but the equivalent is really expensive (4x) and most vendors probably don’t make it easy to buy as a Joe Schmoe. So I bought this one (because USA made) and took it to measure on my mitutoyo vision CMM before deciding if it was good enough. Measures 0.0004” for straightness using multiple methods. Granted I couldn’t measure the whole length of it at once so in reality is probably a liiiittle higher but not much. I’m keeping this one. Ignore any review of a straightedge that talks about setting it on a random table, lol

Used to check engine block and head for flatness
I used this to do a flatness check of a block and cylinder head of an engine I was rebuilding. Using a carpenter's tool just won't do the job. The car is running well, so it looks like the flatness check was good.

big screw up
I would probably have given more stars if I had actually _received_ something. Instead I received a well-taped piece of flat cardboard with NOTHING INSIDE! It didn't look like anything fell out, so the shipping clerk must have completely forgotten to put the tool inside the package. Wow. Drug test time. I should have been more wary of accepting a 10 oz package that should have weighed 3 lbs, but I wasn't suspecting anything amiss when I signed for it. So much for the work I was planning on doing on the car this weekend.

The straight edge was accurate & was easy to use
We were able to double check the machine shop on how straight they cut a head. The straight edge was accurate & was easy to use.

Horrible shipping care
I bought this to check flatness on my superduty heads. Supposedly has 0.0002” per foot, but I doubt I can trust it very much since it looks like amazon threw it down the stairs a few times. Huge box, with a little piece of paper thrown in for cushioning. I’ve had windshield wipers packed better. Pretty disappointed in amazon right now.
