Q: Would it be possible to put a clear top coat of nail polish to try and keep it from altering colors or having the finish come off?

Nope. Its going to be a rust color after about a week. Even if you wear it only once a year its going to tarnish. Its cheap crap.

It doesn't turn skin green though it fades in colour if worn in water too much
