Very pleasantly surprised by this inexpensive multimeter. I was not expecting a lot but was quite happily surprised by the ease of use, the large number of features, and the accuracy of the voltage, current, capacitance, and resistance measurements. It is compact and has good fit and finish. It is 4000 counts meter which is fine for electronics hobbyist use. For a beginner multimeter user, an electronics hobbyist, or just to have a spare meter, this is pretty nifty. The NCV feature is handy. The set of test probes seem to be of decent quality and come with those little plastic covers that cover everything but the tips (to prevent accidental short circuits).

This looks like a strong choice for someone who wants a multimeter that covers the main functions without paying a lot. Auto-ranging, continuity, capacitance, battery checks, and NCV make it feel like a useful all-around tool for home, automotive, and light electrical troubleshooting. AstroAI has a decent reputation in the budget tool space, and this seems like a good fit for someone who wants practical features without going full professional-grade. I purchased this meter as a back-up. This is an inexpensive multimeter that comes with a few extra features. Beyond the typical VDC, VAC, mA, Amps, Resistance and Capacitance readings, it also provides Non-Contact AC Voltage (NCV) and Live Wire AC Voltage detection. The construction is solid. The display backlighting is strong and works well. Note that the NCV detection is fidgety, though. Placing the NCV detector (located at the top of the meter) near an operational 120 VAC outlet, the meter would reliably indicate a "Low" AC voltage (green light) when it is near the outlet. However, it takes a lot of tiny meter position adjustments to get the NCV to indicate "High" AC voltage (red light) near the "hot" line of the AC outlet. The NCV operation is unreliable enough that I may just pull out the probes and plug them in. I subtracted a star from the final product rating as a result. I have included pictures of the meter's contents. The red/black meter probes come with a protective cap over the banana jacks - these will probably be lost within the first month of use. The meter probes are normally fully insulated, exposing a small sharp tip for probing circuitry. The same probes also have a removable sleeve (shown for the black probe) that can be pulled off to provide a longer "pin sticker" probe to insert into the back of Molex type connectors for readings. The 2xAAA batteries were already installed into the meter on delivery, with no protective tape to prevent electrical connection to the meter. So, I have followed the recommendations of other reviewers, and have replaced the installed cheap alkaline batteries with new Duracells just in case the original batteries may fail quickly (and possibly leak).

Initial testing good. While not the cheapest option available, it is still very low cost and seems like a much more professional tool than the lower-priced options I tried. This unit has a relatively compact size, but still has a decent heftiness feel to it - I do not mean that it is heavy, just that it does not feel like a 50 cent plastic toy. It comes with a decent 17 page manual written in actual English instead of some Chinese gibberish. Another notable feature is that the test leads come with tip covers that actually have real value. Instead of just completely covering the tips so that they have to be removed to use the meter at all, these leave the very ends of the tips exposed so that the leads can be used for many basic measurements with the covers left in place (such as a quick battery test). More than just convenience, these have the added value that if you need to measure something in a tight position where you are worried that the normally long and fully exposed tip might short out on something beside you intended measurement point, the lead cover proves extra protection. I'm not sure why most modern test leads come with full plastic covers anyway; what possible protection does a bare metal probe need in storage? The accuracy specs (from the manual) seem to be acceptable for a tool in this price range: DCV +-0.5%, ACV +-1.0%, Current +-1.5%, Resistance +-1.5%. While not a scientific instrument, it is very functional around the house and shop.

Meet expectations, functionality and good price

For the price, this multi meter works great. I especially liked the fact that it doesn't require 9v battery. Continuity test with audible sound is a great plus in my tool box. I also have brand name multi meter, but I use this more often due to smaller size with all the feature I need.

I’ve owned more meters over the years than I care to admit, some dirt cheap, some that cost more than a car payment, and this little AstroAI unit holds its own. It’s sturdy, accurate, and easy to read, even for old eyes that have seen a few too many decades of tiny print and bad lighting. The auto-ranging and backlight features make quick work of household fixes and garage diagnostics. Is it a Fluke? No. But it’s damn close for a fraction of the price. The feel in the hand is solid, the readings are consistent, and it hasn’t glitched once in months of use. Throw in a set of better leads and maybe a small case, and you’ve got a go-to meter for just about any weekend project or light professional task. Bottom line , dependable, affordable, and tough enough to earn a permanent spot on my workbench

This is a surprisingly good multimeter with advanced features for a great price. I've tried out nearly all the features so far and it has worked beautifully. I especially like something I hadn't had before in a meter: the battery voltage tester settings that apply a slight load to the battery under test showing whether it still has sufficient charge. You could find a multimeter with more digits of precision and the ability to read >600V, but for most people who are not professional electricians, this meter provides more than enough capability. I'm mostly using it for electronics and am very pleased.

The TRMS 4000 is exactly as described. It’s easy to use, quite intuitive in fact and using the function key to alternate between DC and AC reduces clutter of the rotary dial. The battery testers work particularly well. Buying a good pair of Alligator leads to compliment the Multimeter would be worthwhile. Very fast delivery by Amazon 👏
