Not bad at all, just take your time and think it through.
For the price, this is a good tool for a guy or gal who isnโt a professional. Mine is about .002 off, but installed height is generally acceptable .02 on either side of target installed height, and this discrepancy is easily calculated into the measurement. I actually put a little axle grease in the threads to make it a little slower to turn and a little less fiddly. Comp Cams offers a similar tool that has the same complaints of being off a little, but is a hundred dollars more expensive! This tool is a no brainer. The only thing I will say is if you have a small diameter valve spring retainer, you may have to get a shim to keep the retainer from slipping inside- but thatโs easily worked around with a shim/ washer under the retainer. Just take a micrometer reading of that shim or washer and add that number to the installed height and youโre good. I had to do this because my retainer was for a 1.25โ spring and it wanted to slip somewhat inside since it was just at the edge of doing that.

Great deal
Nice. It is 0.002" - 0.003" taller than it indicates. More than good enough for valve springs. The graduations are 0.005" apart. I could face it off a little bit and make it just right, but that is unnecessary. I believe the description said it was steel, it isn't...anodized aluminum, which I think most are. It sure was cheap, but is made nicely. From China...I bet the brand name ones are also. The range is slightly greater than some others, I like that. The range and diameter are suitable for large-ish automotive stuff....I do some pushrod v8 work, it will work great. I also do some 4 valve/cyl car and motorcycle work, which doubt it will work with due to diameter. Won't fit into toyotas with shim/bucket valve actuation, for example. Even if it did, (maybe 3vz?) you couldn't use/read it down in the lifter bore.

Well worth it!
Served the purpose it was intended for. The markings were slightly off but very minimal not enough to make a difference. Well worth the price ๐

This tool from "Shinny mermaid" is not accurate! It is not a "Precision Tool"!
Please refer to the photos: This tool has a .020" error in it's calibration. When it indicates 1.600" it actually measures 1.580" with a digital caliper. In each photo you can see that the indicated value is off by .020" when actually measured. In the case of photo #6 the tool is indicating a value of 1.850", but the actual measured value is 1.830". I attempted to contact the Vendor's Customer Service Website that's listed by Amazon, but the link takes you to a "Surgical & Dental Implant" Domain that is for sale! I would like to find one of these that is truly accurate. This is the 3rd one I've purchased (from different vendors), and none of them are accurate! The last 2 were off by .040" ~ .060" each!

Beautiful machine, looks great, works great for me.
I donโt understand the confusion or problems with this thing. I guess there is some possibility that somehow a few of these could be incorrectly machined but honestly, I would be surprised. Ipopped it out of the box, popped it between the jaws of a good mitutoyo vernier caliper. Mine measures within .001 anywhere from 1.6 up to 2.2 inches. I donโt see how I could ask for more. It fits over the valve stems and under the retainers on a couple different applications, Iโve tried so far (vortec BBC, A1 VW) so I canโt really see how you can go wrong with the thing. I would imagine there is a retainer out there somewhere or valve guide that it might not fit. If your retainer doesnโt sit flush on the collar, obviously you are gonna have a measurement problem. Anyway, I canโt see paying more for another brand unless you got some really funky retainers.

good tool after you learn to read it
takes a little to figure out if you've never used something like this before but all and all a good product. One thing to note is that the measurements marked on the side are for end to end so if you have a retainer that sits inside of the tool then you need to subtract the inset height from the overall total but that's pretty easy. Overall for the money spent its a good tool

Useless. No markings or anything on the inner side of the mic. The inside spins but didn't come out so you can't measure anything.
