Great, basic, clearly written, fun book of healing herbal teas
This book is exactly what I was looking for! I am a novice and need basic information to change from reliance upon the pharmaceutical industry to self-reliance using healing, herbal teas. The information is presented simply, thoroughly, without falling back on superficial 'they say this is good for...' statements.Using Ms.Mars suggested product source contacts, and carefully reading her recipes, we are able to create our own healthy herbal teas.Thank You, Brigitte Mars!

This is a great book for everyone
Brigitte Mars has written a wonderful all around guide to Herbal Teas. It has just enough information on each herb without being overwhelming. She also has a lovely, conversational writing style. You almost feel like she is your trusted friend guiding you to the info. you need. I probably would have preferred more straight tea recipes than the tea party section but it is cute and reminds you that life is supposed to be fun. I would absolutely buy this book if you are interested in herbs or tea.

Important and interesting information for tea lovers!
As I drink a lot of herbal tea I was interested in reading more about them! One might think that there is not a lot to say about this subject or at least not a lot one doesn't know but that is not correct at all! This book will become my tea bible and I am sure that I will refer to it often enough! There is a lot of practical information: tea bags or bulk herbs, drying of the herbs, storage, wildcrafting, other uses for herbal teas like baths, topical use, eye washes, beauty, dry herbs versus fresh herbs, the 5 flavors of tea..... Then the author discusses in detail 45 common and less common herbs (maybe all very common for anyone living in the USA). She tells you a lot about each herb, also the very important cautions you should have because we shouldn't think that an herb is an herb and no harm will come from it! The only thing I missed was the explanation is more details of whether the use should be topical or internal. For example, a tea to strengthen vision, should one drink it or use it as eyewash? Or tea against age spots, should one apply it to the age spots of drink it? If it is true that age spots appear because the liver is not working well then both might be true, but it is not clear! The suggestion to not always boil the water to make the tea but infuse the herbs in cold water either in the sun or moonlight is very interesting! The instructions for the garden are also very welcome! Also the fact that there are many herbs one uses in the kitchen, like basil or parsley but one wouldn't think of making a cup of tea with them.I have to confess that I don't understand how a tea can be sedative but stimulant at the same time, laxative but also help with diarrhea.... But there must be an explanation for that, maybe because it regulates the body? Another example, Hawthorn tea should be used with caution in case of poor digestion but at the same time is a digestive tea?As far as fluoride helping strengthening the teeth this is something not all experts agree with. From everything I have read so far it is better to stay away from fluoride and it surely will do more harm than good. The thought that cholesterol is something to be lowered doesn't seem to be very accurate either! Women who live the longest have as a rule higher cholesterol! But these are common beliefs!Another doubt I have is as far as green tea goes: green tea is an unfermented tea but under the Oolong teas there is the mention to Pouchong tea being used to make Jasmine tea (a green tea) although Pouchong tea is a fermented tea although it ferments less time than most Oolong teas. Another interesting piece of information is the fact that Tea (green, black and Oolong) appear to be hypotensive (lowers blood pressure) but further down you can read that tea should be avoided in case hypertension! Well, if it is hypotensive it would be great for people with high blood pressure? There are also a lot of idea for blends you can make yourself and even recipes for snacks to eat with your high tea. The glossary at the end is very handy in case you come across any words you are not sure what they mean. All in all, even despite the fact that I had some doubts about the contents, this is a book I am happy I read! The writing style is very agreeable as it flows well without the endless repetitions one often finds in nowadays' health books! A little book but packed with information!
