Great product
OMG I've been sleeping on these for so long! My only regret is that I didn't get the larger container, but this works very well and is easy to use once you get the hang of it. The laundry room has never smelt better, even though we used to use a different product that had similar claims of odor control (it did not). I will absolutely be upgrading to a larger version at some point since we have multiple cats, but I wanted to try this one out first since it was on a good sale at the time of purchase before spending more money on one of the other models. The pail seems well made and durable, and I really appreciate the built in bag cutter which makes removing the collected litter very simple. As long as it's kept clean (washed out when I deep clean the litter boxes during my monthly deep cleans) it should last a long time. The litter scoop that comes with it also seems to be well made and sturdy, and also works well to separate the clumps from the loose litter.

Absolutely Fabulous Especially for the Price! Makes People who Hate Dealing with Litter Happier! Here's What You Need to Know
This is definitely a case of you get way more than you pay for (I mean, for $17 you're probably not expecting much - you may be hoping, but not expecting). Well, I'm here to tell you that given what it is, and what it's made out of, and the price, well, I think they should call it Genius instead of Genie (although I'm sure they are trading on the Diaper Genie craze). Here's what you need to know: - The MOST IMPORTANT thing that you need to know is after the next few things, because I'm trying to do it in the order you will encounter it. - This thing *really works*, and exactly as it's supposed to. Here is the test I put it to: I had an upcoming hip replacement, and my friend who offered to stay with me and take care of me and my house and my critters absolutely *detests* cats (I know, right?) so you can imagine how he feels about dealing with scooping litter. Now, this same friend had taken care of me and mine a few months earlier, when I broke my wrist and needed surgery (yes, in my house 2017 is the Year of the Surgery), and yeah, he really grumbled about the cat - and especially the cat box - a lot. I mean a LOT. So, in preparation for him taking care of me this time, I bought the Litter Genie, hoping against hope that it would appease him. Well, guess what? He still doesn't like the cat, but now he doesn't hate taking care of the litter! He has remarked *several* times how much easier it is with the Litter Genie! For that alone I would have paid much more than the measly $17! (Shhh...don't tell them that.) - It *really* contains the smell! Woohoo! - The scoop works *perfectly* with the Genie's orifice size. It's a pretty large scoop, so a smaller scoop would work well too. - This thing is made of plastic, so it's not going to have the precision fit and smooth mechanisms of your Jaguar. But hey, $17. So you may have to wiggle it a bit when you put it together to get it to close tightly, and to get the scoop holder to be fitted, but that is a small price to pay for how well it works. It *will* come together, and the scoop holder *will* stay on. - HERE IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING YOU NEED TO KNOW! So LISTEN UP! When you first pull the bag through and tie it off (the knot where you tie it becomes the bottom of the bag (this will make sense to you when you are doing it, I promise)), and after you close up the Litter Genie (so it's ready to go), *open the top*, pull out the trap door (this will make sense to you also when you are doing it), and *manually open up (expand) the bag so that it's wide open*!!! The act of tying the knot makes the bag crumple up all together, like it's shut tight, so i f you *don't* stick your hand in the (still clean) bag from the top, and push the bag wide open, the bag will not (or at least may not) actually open up to accept the clumps of litter!! They will stay above the trap door, with you wondering why all the great reviews, because "damn this thing doesn't really work!" It does work, but the weight of the clumps is not going to cause the bag to open wide on its own - so open it up wide before you try to put anything in there! I'm now 2 1/2 weeks post my new hip installation, my friend is still here, and he's still not only not complaining about the litter, but actually still praising the Genie (and that was even after he carried the first full bag out to the trash!)

Good System for kitties- GREAT for humans
So, I got this because it was prettier than my current kitty litter holder which works great but is seriously unattractive. The Litter Genie does indeed work but, the truth is that with that lip thing that I really do NOT want to have to clean to- this put my ugly container just ahead of it in workability. Yeah, the old one looks terrible but, on the other hand, it doesn't take expensive refills and doesn't give me something extra that I would have to clean. Since, technically I don't HAVE to have something that looks good (it's not placed out in the open), I guess the old one stays for now. So, why the 5 stars? Well, because, like I said before: Litter Genie is a great system, I just happen to have one that works just a little better FOR ME. So, that doesn't mean that it doesn't work or that it's a bad product and I refuse to dock stars from a decent system just because my lifestyle works better with something slightly different. That and, I'll admit that the off-label use that I've found for it is an absolute GOD SEND. See, I live mostly alone with the husband gone on business more often then not. Unfortunately, an injury has seriously reduced my ability to walk/stand right now and, of course, the dumpster is across the rather large apartment complex. This all means that taking out the trash on a daily basis just isn't needed (the bags just don't fill up that fast) and also, physically impossible for me. We also have no garbage disposal in the sink either. A girl still has to eat though and table/kitchen scraps do indeed happen. Well, needless to say that putting those scraps into the trash can indeed start to stink up the ENTIRE PLACE in just a few hours... Starting to see where this is going? ;) Yep. I was standing there with this actually pretty darned good storage/disposal system designed to hold in the stench so that you don't smell it that I just didn't need for the cats and a major problem with icky smelly stuff from me that I had no idea how to handle. And, thus, I did indeed intone the most infamous words in the English language: Why not? Worth a try. Usually, these words do indeed lead to disaster but, once in a while- once in a LONG while, they actually lead to something good (which is why we keep saying them) and yep, this was indeed one of those times. For kitchen/table scraps? This thing is PHENOMENAL. I LOVE IT. Now, so far, my method is to drop my morning coffee grounds in with whatever else to try to help (just in case) with odor control and I've always taken it out after a couple of days maximum but, so far, not even raw chicken bones has caused any kind of smell after a full 48 hours. Okay, granted. I haven't tried any longer than that so far for the stinkier stuff but- way I figure it? Even allowing me to wait until I get home from work the next night makes it worth the purchase because that means that I can take it out on a night when I'm not standing in front of the stove/walking around the kitchen for over an hour. :) I have also been able to put off the trash ALL WEEK with non-meat items in there and not a single whiff of stink. Other caveats is that I have only tried it with chicken bones and cooked fat from a steak so far. I also haven't tried it with fish either. Also, mentioned, I have been religiously putting my coffee grounds in there to mix with whatever else to (hopefully) help with the odor control. Finally, I ensure that there is no residue or anything on the bag above the little slider thing and don't use it for anything liquid. All that being said, so far? It's going great and I plan to experiment further as time goes on and meals create different kinds of scraps and life in general creates different lengths of time. So far though- even if it proves to be useful only in the limited factors that I've tried until now? It's proven itself a VERY useful purchase that I plan to keep around and definitely keep using.

Litter Genie grants all three wishes: odor control, convenience, and quality!
I have 2 cats, sharing one litter box, and boy do they leave a lot of, uh, "treasures". I got the Litter Genie so I don't have to get blasted in the face with the foulest of smells whenever I open the trash can. This thing does the job well, and holds a good amount of "treasure" before I have to dump the booty. And I like how you can tie off the bag at whatever length you like. My biggest gripe is the lid doesn't latch closed, so if the cats are getting raucous and bump it over, it'll just fly open and potentially spill whatever bits are inside. Also, the scoop is so-so. I use clumping clay litter, and the teeny-tiny clumps of pee can slip through the slits. But at least it's better than nothing, and the holder comes in handy

A miracle!
Honestly I LOVE this Litter Genie. I have owned cats most of my life and for the past several years I only had outdoor barn cats because I did NOT want to deal with litter smell again. I detest the smell of cat poop and urine with the mixed floral or detergent scent of litter. Gross. So, when my young daughter convinced my husband that we needed to keep a runt kitten indoors that mama cat stopped feeding I relented and searched thoroughly for litter pans and trash cans (I usually use the foot pedal trash cans and stick a scent stick up under lid but this was NOT working well as every time you open lid you get a wonderful waft of cat stink that just seems to suspend forever in the air). I have always been used to the front swing door litter pans but found a top loader that was interesting. Bought that then suddenly stumbled onto the litter genie! After reading countless reviews and learning about the different bag options and best way to use the litter genie I ended up purchasing. $10 was incredibly reasonable and I figured if it sucked I would just be out ten bucks. Fast forward over a week and there is ZERO litter smell. It is amazing. I scoop daily into the litter genie (sometimes a few times a day if my daughter does it too), pull the handle and swoosh the grossness is dropped out of sight. I use Fresh Step litter which I have found clumps a hundred times better than others. My kitten is small and her poops are small so I could have waited to empty the genie over a week but I just emptied the bag today and it was so easy. I did as the others recommended and used a zip tie instead of tying. It really saves the bag space a lot. Using the cutter was simple and there was no litter leakage. The button to open the bottom of the Plus Litter Genie lined up and I had no issues. It was so simple and thoroughly contained. Every so often I spray the lid and top area with some Lysol but its for my own desire not that it really needs it. The hole on top is big enough for the poop and pee clumps. I did not use the litter scoop that came with it as it did appear a bit large holed and cheap but the other one I bought fits perfectly in the holder. I also bought sanitizing wipes to wipe down the genie if it gets soiled. So far I am totally amazed and impressed. As I said, I have tons of experience with cats and kitty litter so this isn't my first rodeo. I could have used this thing YEARS ago! I will update if I have any issues but so far I like it a lot. I bought some 50count vanilla scented bags from walmart for super cheap so will try those in the genie once the ring empties to try to make more affordable bag purchase. Oh btw I bought the IRIS Top Entry Cat Litter Box with Cat Litter Scoop and am loving that too. No bags, deep litter method and I have had no poo tracks and extremely little litter pebbles on the floor.

It really keeps the odors locked inside and looks great next to the litter boxes
The Litter Genie Plus is an amazing product that really works keeping the odors locked inside the compartment of where the litter bag is stored. I have been searching for some time trying different products here and there, and none of them worked as well as this product. After almost giving up on finding a product that would conceal the litter odor, I luckily came across this item and really liked the design and had to purchase it. I read a lot of the reviews first before making a decision, and they were positive and very well written along with pictures. So, I do thank everyone for your reviews. I have 4 kittens and 4 litters boxes so, I decided to purchase 2 of the Litter Genies. When I received the product, it did come with instructions along with a refill cartridge and a scooper. Putting it together was very easy and did not take much time. From the reviews I read, I did learn how to get it started. You take the refill cartridge and peel out the plastic piece that is holding the bags inside the cartridge. Then pull out the bag long enough that it will fit inside the bottom part of the Genie. Then tie the bag where it is open into a good strong knot and place it inside the bottom. Then snap the refill cartridge on to the top part of the genie. Then the scooper comes with a holder, place that on the right side of the genie and then close both the bottom and top part of the genie together. It should snap in place and just put the scooper into the holder and you are all done. I keep one Genie next to two litters boxes inside the laundry room and the other genie in our screened-in porch where the cats like to stay during the day. The colors match the litter boxes and the litter mats so I am happy about that. I scoop out the litter boxes 3-4 times a day and now it is so easy, I don’t mind doing it whereas before, I was using a doggie bag and then putting it into a garbage bin in the garage, that was a lot of work! Now, I just open the top part of the genie and in goes the potpie and peepie balls. Once I am done scooping, there is a lever that pulls out and in goes the waste into the bottom part of the genie. It just amazes me how much I like this unit. I can keep the waste in the genie for a good 2 weeks before I need to remove the bag. The best part is, there is no odor at all. This system really keeps the odor inside the bag and my laundry room does not smell. From everything I have tried, this by far exceeds my expectations. The cartridge refills can be found on Amazon and I have seen them at my local pet store as well. Since, I have had such success with this Litter Genie Plus, I would certainly recommend this item to my fellow cat owners.

MAJOR IMPROVEMENT ! ! ! Strongly Recommended!
I've been using Litter Genie for nearly 12 years. This new iteration is MUCH better. The light colour is much better for NOT showing dust, and the new hinging is MUCH easier to use. The clicking-in closure is even BETTER at reducing odours.

Convenient for scooping out cat litter
Nice efficient way to dispose of litter box poop and clumps. Does a good job containing the smell. The replacement bags are pricey, but we've done OK with off-brand bags avaiable on Amazon.

Definitely reduces kitty litter smell in the house!
Overall, we've been really happy with this purchase. It makes removing and keeping used kitty litter much easier and definitely reduces the awful smell, as it smartly locks the used litter inside. The bag dispenser is a super smart idea, too. My only complaint is that it probably isn't big enough! Also, the entrance at the 'neck' of the container is a little narrow for the provided scoop, which means you need a good aim and a steady hand! But overall, a really worthwhile purchase for anyone with indoor cats.

Missing parts
Im very disappointed, it came without the top lid or shovel. There should not be any missing parts

Great product blocks smells
I love this bin. I have 2 cats that go to the toilet twice a day and their toilet stinks. This is perfect to have in the house especially at night when I don’t want to go outside. I really only clean it every fortnight (but could go longer) and I never smell anything when I add more each day. I do wish it was bigger and there is a bigger version of this but it had bad reviews so I went with this model. I love it and highly highly recommend.

Best cat purchase
I impulse bought this, and thought it may be a waste of money - who needs such an expensive bin for cat poop? But it is the best thing i ever bought as a cat owner. Makes cleaning litter boxes so much easier and more convenient. Only gripe is that the branded refill cartridges are so expensive - you can buy cheap refill bags to stick in the origninal bag cartridge

Scoop That Poop!
What I Like - I’ve always been a huge fan of these type of litter disposal units since they’ve been a thing. After trying the other brand and having that last a long time, and also trying a Diaper Genie, I decided to try this Litter Genie Plus Pail. I was surprised at how well made it is. Functionality is top notch and it’s extremely easy to use. The refills are easy to install and there’s lots of room inside. The built in blade is always a plus and makes cutting the bag easy when it’s time to throw it out. I had no need for the scoop itself but it’s well made for plastic, but I have a metal scoop and much prefer that. A really good value and made the switch worth it to me. It works extremely well at keeping the odors of used litter inside the pail. What I Don’t Like - Nothing yet.
