It runs my entire camper with A/C.... after a modification
So bought this knowing it is made by Generac. Can't go wrong. Got a really good deal here on Amazon $500. Not bad, caught it on sale. Got it in 2 days, great. Added the oil and did a couple hour break in with no load. Ran great and very quiet. Plugged in my camper with a 13,00 btu A/C. With nothing else running tried to start the A/C, no luck. Immediately cut out and went into fault. So it won't start my A/C. I did not have a soft start at this time. So I ordered a soft start which I was going to get any way, but I wanted to see if this would run it without. Nope. Not surprising, but a little bit of a bummer. Installed the soft start and tried again. No luck, WTF. After doing some research come to find out it is always in "eco" mode. The Honda, Generac, and Harbor freight generators have a switch to turn it off, not the Craftsman. So after contacting Generac and getting the wiring schematics for the Generac and the Craftsman (Generac customer service is awesome by the way), I figured out how to run a switch to turn off the "eco" mode. The wiring is literally all hooked up inside, all I had to do was cut the harness, solder in a switch, and mount the switch. I Put it back together and tried it out and sure enough I was able to turn off eco mode so that the RPM's are higher when the load of the A/C kicks in. Hooked the camper back up and I had A/C in the camper being ran by the generator. The generator was quite a bit louder with the A/C running though. Not a big deal for me because I will only be using it during the day where we camp and not during quiet hours. It will now start and run the entire camper while charging the batteries back up. I am very happy with this now after the modification. It is stupid that this doesn't have the switch already installed especially since everything is already there to install one. I also installed an hour meter to keep track of running hours for maintenance. I really don't know why they don't already have that too, but whatever. I paid $10 for the hour meter and switch. It took a couple hours to install both. I ran it this past weekend camping for 25 hours on 5 gallons of gas running the A/C and charging the group 29 battery the entire time. It is a little louder than I'd like it to be, but I really have nothing to compare it to since this is my first suitcase type generator. I'm sure the Honda and Harbor Freight are quieter, but for what I paid for this I'm not mad, and knowing it is a Generac makes me at ease. So buy it if you are on the fence.

Quiet and portable
I would like to start out by saying, I have not used this item for an extended period of time. So far, it does what it is supposed to and is the perfect size item for backup power or the jobsite. Pros: Lightweight/Portable; QUIET!; Easy to start; easy to use; flexible in outlet types/configurations; easy to store; provides consistent power to devices - quickly adjusts throttle to adapt to startup power loads. Funnel and oil provided. Battery charging cables included. Cons: Adding oil is tricky, but easy. You have to unscrew the side housing and fill it. The oil filler angle is also unusual, so spillage is almost a given filling the engine up with oil. I wish they would have provided Synthetic oil instead of conventional. Synthetic has the ability to run under a broad array of temperature conditions. I will likely switch to synthetic after the 1st oil change. It is made by Generac, which is a brand leader in generators. Craftsman just put their name on it - which is okay. I like the red color - and the form factor is nice! Overall, if you are looking for a small generator for camping, backup power, power tool support when not able to connect to the grid or other light duty electric devices, this is the ticket. I own a larger generator for a vacation property and it is heavy, loud, and not easy to transport. This is a great, quick power solution for when the lights go out during a storm to keep the furnace running, a few lights on, and my Fridge/Freezer avoiding food spoilage.

Crastfman is selling out to Chinese crap products!
I am really suprised that Craftsman put their name on this garbage! After 2 years using 92 octane and starting it every few weeks. Now when I need it it won't start. New gas, under 10 hours of use and it does not start. Oil is fine. It starts a little then dies. I always trusted the Craftsman name but the generator suck and it it juck!

It runs like a honda without the honda price.
I have some rural property that I have not set up power on yet. I purchased this generator for odd jobs that I need to get done on this property. I have used it to run a sawzall, a hammer drill and a pancake air compressor. It has had no issues providing enough power to run these tools. The generator is surprisingly quiet, you could easily have a conversation on the phone while standing right next to it. I am thinking about purchasing another one for a backup. The initial oil fill was super easy because it came with a side fill funnel and a tool packet which helped to remove the panel and fill oil without spilling. I would add a fuel stabilizer to the fuel because this thing sips gas and the fuel may sit in the tank for a while. Older fuel can gum up your carburetor after sitting in a tank. I am super happy with the purchase. Dave

Good quality and easy to start
Essentially this is a GENERAC brand generator, but it’s made in China, probably like 90% of all manufactured goods these days. Box showed up undented, unopened, and ready to go once you add the oil and fuel. Choke is easy to use and it started right up on the second easy pull. Pretty quiet, even when operating near its maximum load. Ran it 10 hours under varios electrical loads to break it in. Drained all the fuel before storing it. There’s a guy on YouTube who has several videos of the exact same generator sold under GENERAC label and he’s run it many years at his remote cabin in the woods. He also has some very good maintenance tips and tricks.

Nearly as quiet as a Honda of the same size
I bought this as a twin of one I already have to use in parallel configuration. Craftsman discontinued this specific model so I had to scoop one up. Nearly as quiet as a Honda.

Way quieter than my old generator I was quite surprised. Fuel consumption is not bad a tank last from 6-12 hours depending what you’re running. No more worries with power outages and ready electrical on the go for camping. The other thin I like and have used is you can boost a vehicle and it comes with the attachments, I used it to charge my boat batteries and worked flawless. I recommend. Thanks.

Hi thought I would add my feedback since the reviews I read before purchasing the i2500 watt craftsman generator were pretty mixed reviews. Item arrived on time and the original box was in perfect condition when I received the unit from the delivery specialist. My package came with the oil funnel, spark plug wrench and screwdriver to access the side panel of the unit and cables to attach to generator to charge a standard vehicle battery. That is all. It was missing the operators manual, which I struggled to even locate online. So after watching some youtube videos out there from so many other people on breaking in and maintaining small engine generators I grabbed some engine oil 5w30 synthetic Royal purple oil, and some non synthetic 10w30 oil for use to break in the system. So the next day after getting the unit, I spent the afternoon doing what most video's could agree on when it came to breaking in the unit before taking it away on our tenting camping trip. I removed the access panel and cracked open the spark plug holder and dropped a couple Lucas oil additives into the spark plug hole and let the unit sit for about 15 minutes to let the lubrication flow down and coat the piston. I placed the spark plug back in and tightened it down, then proceeded to fill the oil reservoir up with non synthetic 10w30 oil. it does not take much and lastly I added some gasoline and took the unit outside to let it run for one hour. First time it took 3 pulls and and was running smoothly.. It let out a cloud of white smoke at first and then it was clear after about 3 seconds of running. So I drank a beverage or 2 and let it run for and hour without a load on it.. I let it cool down for a few minutes and then changed the oil, it honestly was not dark at all like the videos I have watched, anyways I added fresh oil to the unit and brought it back out to run for another hour. An hour later and a beverage or 2 less, I stopped the unit let it cool for a bit and changed the oil out again and honestly the oil was almost new looking and I couldn't see metal shavings or anything in the oil.. so I changed the oil again (still 10w30 oil) brought it back outside and used a 1600 watt heater. I started the generator and ran the heater at half wattage (800Watts) for about 50 mins and occasionally as I walked by to get another beverage I would turn the heater to full for a minute or so. Once I completed the half load test for close to an hour I brought the unit back in and yes you guessed it, changed the oil again. This time I used the 5w30 synthetic Royal Purple oil instead of the 10w30 oil. Once the unit was cooled down I packed the unit up for camping. So the unit worked flawlessly and did not sputter once during the camping trip, unit started on the first pull every time and this unit is so quiet, I forgot to mention when I was doing the break in at home, my central AC unit was on and far louder than the generator. This craftsman unit was the quietest unit at the camping site .. there were quite a few other similar units out there but this was the by far the most quiet running unit out there.. I would highly recommend this unit to anyone that was thinking about something that is convenient and easy to use.. My wife can start it so anyone can use this device. I didn't even use a whole tank of gas while camping. This unit replaced a 1500 watt open concept generator that was awkward as heck to travel with and unload from a boat, I like the fact that I can use 1 hand to pick it up and move it around instead of my old unit that was square and awkward to carry using 1 one hand on each side of the cage the generator sat in. If you are sitting on the fence and can't make up your mind like me, I was really hoping to find a deal on a dual fuel invertor generator but nothing fit the bill at the time and anything I found was on a larger generator and close to a hundred pounds or more which is not ideal for my style of camping. I would say jump on this generator and it is especially a good deal when you can find it on-sale like I did. I am very happy with the Craftsman generator, its about 54 pounds with a full tank of gas and not really heavy, it super quiet and has more than enough power to keep you happy. Hope this helps someone out there. Chris

Great little generator. Light weight and portable. A little pricey. Have found similar for much less.

Easy to start, very low motor noise. After a year, needed to get carburator cleaned because not used enough. I was told to run it at least 30 minutes monthly and use high grade gaz. No further problem.
