Nobody's Boy: Sans Famille Review: Great classic - Everyone should read this, it will make them grateful for what they have. It is a story of great poverty, mercy, kindness, and courage, as well as sadness and romance, and a happy ending. Review: It brought me joy of childhood memories - I had seen the cartoon in my childhood and remember crying in some of the scenes; it was something that I cherish, I often sing the intro song and it brings good memories but I had no idea it was a book, so I decided it to read it and boy am I glad I did. There are differences between the book and the cartoon but are minimal. I am talking about the cartoon where Remi is a boy, the Japanese version that is the best, the other ones do not capture the drama as good as that one. The book underlined literally underlines the message that the author wants to convey, the good principles that Signor Vitalis teaches Remi. There are moments in the book that make you laugh but also some that will break your heart and some others that will make tear up of happiness. I watched the movie, it was okay but because of time probably, they took out very important parts of the movie such as the gardens and the mines but more importantly they omitted the existence of Mattia, Serbino, and Dulcie. I was like WTF? And the story went too fast, still was a good movie but it could have been a cult film if they would have followed the book better. I recommend this book to everyone whom has seen the animated series, anyone that wants an easy reading enjoyable book that takes you in an adventure and misfortune of our friend Remi. It’s a rollercoaster ride, you will fall in love with lovely heart and capi; will get your heart broken every time we lose a member of the Vitalis company but will be proud and happy of the friendship between Mattia and Remi and his triumphant return. I truly enjoyed it. It should be read by every kid and again when you become an adult.

Beautiful Story; Preferred Edition
I highly recommend this version of Hector Malot's classic novel. I am currently teaching this to middle school students and the version is double spaced with a slightly larger font, which helps with a 300 plus page book. The story moves slower than others, but the plot line is poignant and compelling. I wish there were more copies of this version available.

A timeless classic. The translation is done acceptably by someone not familiar with American English, but it is thoroughly understandable. The French version is more concise if one is able to wade through extremely literary French and somewhat dated vocabulary. The book is very enjoyable; the story is captivating and makes a valuable text to be part of one's permanent library.

An Incredible Tale You Won't Forget
I read this story in its Dutch translation, as a child. I have yet to read the English version, but I am very excited to do so! I have been scouring Amazon for this book for a while now. It was one of my favorite books as a child. This story is such an epic tale of adventures, both uplifting, soothing, heartbreaking, and uplifting again--and the characters are vibrant and interesting. I can't do the plot justice, but I vividly remember it, from literally decades ago, and I highly recommend it.

Classic
As a retired elementary school teacher, I do not hesitate to recommend this book. When I was teaching, I would read a one chapter of a classic children's book to my students each afternoon to try to awaken in them a love of reading. I had to chose my books carefully as the story had to hold their attention for weeks. Year after year, this book was always a class favorite. Many students would read the book themselves after hearing me read it. Many years later, one of my former students ran for public office and our local newspaper printed interviews with the candidates. One of the questions asked of the candidates was to name some of the books that influenced their lives. I was surprized and pleased to read that my 40+ year old former student named this book as one of the influential books in his life.

Heartwarming
I saw the cartoon in a series of episodes in Spanish when I was a little girl. I always wanted to read the actual book and was very happy to find a free version for my kindle. Thanks Amazon. If you like good stories this one will not disappoint, although I don't think it's the best for young impressionable children since it can be very sad most of the time.

Abridged Version, But Still Readable
Apparently this edition of book has been abridged and I would have preferred to have the whole text. It is a quick read because they have cut it down to the bare bones of the story and left out all the excess wordy passages. Occasionally you will detect that something is missing. However, it is still quite a pleasant story for children and adults alike. I had fond memories of escaping with the author's other book Nobody's Girl as a youngster when we were staying in a drab hotel while waiting to move into a new house. I only recently learned of the male counterpart while browsing Amazon.

A most beloved book, I eagerly sought a hard copy. I chose this copy due to its hard cover and ready-availability. (I did not wish to wait for US delivery.) It is what it claims to be. Scans from the original. For me, at an absolutely acceptable print quality. Added advantage, the large font size. I was disappointed the gorgeous plates weren't printed, as per the original, in colour, however. Again, I have these already, so am forgiving. In short, Acceptable for print for native English speakers. English language learners, on the other hand, steer clear. The Garamond font can be difficult for learners. Its difficulty is exacerbated by its grainy nature and, at times, feint print. Can I suggest to the publisher, as this text is freely available, they print a version with an alternate font. I will continue to seek better prints of my most beloved book. But this one more than satisfies.

The book was very cheap so of course I didn't expect an illustrated version but apparently the publisher tried to save money on paper by making the print very small. I have good eyes and don't wear glasses but even for me this print is too small to be a comfortable read.

Nobody's Boy is a book that I was supposed to read as a boy. The beginning story line, young boy tending garden with his mother, was too boring and so the book sat in my closet for years. Now 60 years later I see renewed interest among seniors and so I ordered a copy. The translation to English is beautiful and stands up well to my Steinbeck standards. This book is very memorable and thought-provoking.

Die Schrift in diesem Buch ist nur halb so gross wie üblich. Kann ich ohne Lupe nicht lesen. Daher als Vorlesebuch leider ungeeignet
