Works well as I had hoped on my 40" 3-speed room tower fan
Nice to find a US-made item these days, and a nicely manufactured one at that - a rare occurrence to say the least. Now yes, as some have pointed out there is a buzz, and it will get increasingly more noticeable the lower (clockwise) you turn the dial to obtain a slower fan speed. But this did not present an issue while used in conjunction with MY PARTICULAR 40" TOWER ROOM FAN, meaning it may just come down to the use with YOUR particular fan, and plugged into an outlet of YOUR newer or older home (my home was built in 1956), and YOUR newer or older house or structure wiring (electricians, can this have an affect on this buzzing noise?).For my fan which is already a 3-speed fan, I found even the lowest of the speeds was still just too forceful as well as loud in my small bedroom, and wanted to find and try this Tjernlund speed module. Now, with my fan set to it's lowest speed, and the Tjernlund just barely turned approximately 1/3 of it's range from the "ON" position ("ON" is just a click clockwise from the "OFF" marking), my fan speed reduced to just the right amount of airflow and sound reduction that I was hoping for! And yes, I do notice a very slight "buzz" at that low adjustment setting, but not enough to bother me since the modest and comfortable fan noise almost completely overcomes that buzzing. And if I continue turning this dial clockwise to slow down my fan even more, yes the level of buzzing will get louder, but in MY case I have no need to do so. So again IMO, it really will depend on your needs and your intended use with your particular fan or blower. My combination worked out well.I should add that after I turn off my fan, I still hear a slight electrical current sound if the Tjernlund is still in the "ON" position, so I just click it "OFF" when not in use. Now, if you also notice this sound and it bothers you and you'd like to be able to "remotely" switch off the power at the outlet to the Tjernlund, you may be able to utilize one of the many wireless remote control plug-in outlets between the wall outlet and the Tjernlund, and I may end up trying this as well so I won't have to get on my knees to turn off the Tjernlund when not using my room fan.I WOULD DEFINITELY recommend this Tjernlund unit - you will just have to try it out for your particular application and see if it works to your satisfaction like it did for mine. :-)

It alters the CYCLES, not the voltage.... so it works great with my new wall-mounted garage fan.
No installation , just "plug and play." Well made, goes from (click) "Off" , knob rotates clockwise and progressively reduces the fan speed. Just what I was looking for, and no wiring work!

Works well so far. "Low" not as low as I wanted.
Low not as low as I wanted, but it functions as advertised.

Extremely Functional
Just got this today. I plugged my 18" Air King Air Circulator fan in and it really helped lower the rpm's and noise. The Air King has 3 speeds. I mounted the fan on the back patio where I relax and watch tv on my projector. However, even on the lowest speed, the Air King spins too fast and makes too much noise, which really interferes with hearing the audio without having to blast the volume. I left the Air King on the low setting and set the fan speed control to about 1/3. This provides me with a pleasant breeze with little noise. This is a great product and just what I was looking for. I hope it lasts a good long time. It's a little pricey, but it's made in USA, and does what it says, so I'm good with it.

First one lasted a tear, then just stopped.
Nice speed control. This will be the last I try though due to the first only lasting through only one winter season for a fan blower.

garbage
I bought this controller and one other to control a 6-inch Tjernlund vent fan. Both were garbage and made the fan hum and get hot. I found that although the AC voltage drops, the frequency jumps up to 90-120Hz. I've given up on these and will use a variac. Zero hum with a variac.

This is the one - does exactly what it is supposed to do!
I bought a 35" wheeled "shop fan" for use by our pool and it turned out to be WAY louder than I anticipated (and way stronger). Instead of taking the fan back (and admitting to my wife that it was a stupid idea to have fan by the pool). I looked all over the internet at products advertised to reduce fan speed, all were way more expensive and all had mixed or pure negative reviews. After scouring the interwebs for product with good reviews I happened to stumble across the SCP plug-in. It never showed up in my primary searches (maybe using wrong key words) and was actually referenced in a review for another product as a suggested alternative for the product that didn't work. I bought it and it worked like a charm (and it was cheaper than the other products as well). I can now put the fan on low (which is already too much wind) and dial it back to the point where there is still plenty of air but almost no sound. Exactly what I needed!

Works well, I am very happy
This controller works super with a 3 speed box fan that will not slow down enough to be quiet. It cost more than my fan but is worth every penny.
