This is a beautiful extended Uke of high quality for a very reasonable price. I bought it 6 years after playing a tenor because I have long arms and big hands. I love it and all of the additional parts that come along with it.

Plays beautifully, a little tricky to tune though!

I bought this baritone ukulele specifically with travel in mind. At around $100, my thinking was that if it were to get damaged during airline travel it wouldn’t be a major loss. The instrument itself is actually very pretty and it produces a nice sound, but after playing it for a few days I realized it is harder for me to play than my Makala...read on. In addition, there were a few setup and packaging issues that buyers should probably be aware of. First, both the installed strings and the backup set that came with the instrument were meant for smaller ukuleles, not a baritone. Fortunately, I had baritone strings on hand, but this was clearly a packaging oversight. The small chord diagram card attached to one of the tuning pegs also showed chords for smaller ukuleles rather than baritone tuning. Since strings are easy to replace, this wasn’t a deal-breaker, but it was a little disappointing and it does increase the cost of the instrument since proper baritone strings have to be purchased separately. Because this ukulele is marketed as coming with replacement strings, the mistake effectively means replacing two sets of strings instead of one. This seems like something the manufacturer could easily correct by including the proper baritone strings. I originally planned to give this ukulele five stars, but after playing it for a few days I lowered my rating to three stars...read on. Compared to my Makala baritone uke, this one requires noticeably more finger strength. The strings sit farther from the fretboard (the action is higher), which makes full barre chords harder to hold. Players with strong hands may not mind this, but beginners may notice the difference. I saw other reviews mentioning that this could be a good ukulele for children, but because of the higher action it may actually be harder for younger or less experienced players. UPDATE: I did a little research and found out how to lower the action. The height of the "Nut" and the "Saddle" are too high. I sanded the bottom of the nut down so the height is 6mm. I bought a new bone saddle and sanded the height down from 7mm to 5mm. Buying the new saddle was just under $12 (another expense), but I am happy with the result. When buying nuts and saddle, they come in standard sizes. My guess is that they are intentionally made to be the biggest height and intended to be sanded down to fit the instrument. To me it seems that the manufacturer just slapped these on as-is. The ukulele comes with a shoulder strap, which is a thoughtful addition. However, the strap itself is extremely wide for such a small instrument. It would be ideal for a guitar. A narrower strap would likely be a better fit for a ukulele, so some players may end up replacing it, which adds a little more cost. The capo is labeled as a guitar capo too. The package says it can be used on a ukulele, but it is a little big. Finally, the shipping quality control was poor. The ukulele’s original box wasn’t even taped shut and was placed inside a much larger shipping box (about four times the size) with no padding or packing material to prevent shifting. When it arrived, the ukulele box was open with the two halves on opposite sides of the oversized shipping box. The instrument comes with a soft padded gig bag, and when I opened the box and saw the bag sitting inside at about a 45-degree angle, I honestly half expected the neck to be broken. By some miracle it arrived without damage, but the shipping process clearly needs improvement. Shipping gets one star. Overall, this is an attractive baritone ukulele with good sound, but the setup and packaging issues kept it from being a higher-rated purchase. Since the instrument comes with the wrong strings and the included strap may not work well for everyone, buyers may end up replacing both. Those added purchases can quickly reduce the cost advantage that likely attracts many people to this instrument in the first place.

This is a great instrument and plays well

I’ve been playing this baritone for about a month now and I really think it’s value for the price. You can’t go wrong.. does it produce the sound of a $400 Kala or Ohana, no. But if you want another uke to add to your collection, so you can take it with you as a substitute for your big guitar. Or if you want to you just use it at a play along and sing this one is as good as low end uke names. I love the easier chords, basically they’re the same as the ones on your guitar without the E and the A string.. I will say I think that they are being returned because the factory puts the standard uke tuning strings and when people tighten they brake. I bought one of the used ones (reduced $20) which you came with a broken string, but I also bought a pack of baritone Aquila strings and it now sounds great.

I purchased the baritone ukulele. Sadly, the strings were strung incorrectly for a _baritone_ ukulele which is the only ukulele with a different tuning. For baritone, they should be: DGBE and go from thickest to thinnest and not GCEA like the others. At first, I was simply miffed, but decided to restring them myself (there were two additional sets of strings included). However, when I unstrung it, the saddle came loose. So, I am returning it. The reason for 2 stars, not one, was the fact that it did come with many great accessories, and perhaps this would be fine for a concert uke (though the poor quality of the saddle makes be wary).

Mine came stung as a regular Ukelele. It is supposed to be a baritone. the extra strings are for a baritone. The product page says they are D' Addario strings yet they come not in a package. I think they are Chinese knock offs. I had to restring to actually have a baritone and once I did it sound very nice. I did later buy actual D' Addario baritone strings (they look totally different) and the sound went from good to amazing. It appears to be well made and has great reasonance. The Gig bag is surprisingly good and even has some padding. It is a much better gig bag than the one I recieved with my Yamaha Guitalele. Overall it is a great value, but be prepared to restring in order to achieve the full sound.

Very bad material and sound of the ukulele. Regret the price paid.

Well made and looks good sounds well .it would help if there were tuning instructions with it and the spare strings could do with labelling otherwise another good buy from amazon

First of all I want to say if people are expecting the instrument to stay in tune rightaway they are wrong. Like in every string instrument you need to stretch your new strings before the instrument will stay in tune. Also you need some good strings that will keep the tension. This is an awesome instrument that you can use as a Uke or as a cuatro if you wish. Top quality. Is like getting two instruments in one. This is definitely the ukulele to get if you are looking for a warm sounding instrument. If you tune it as a Venezuelan cuatro you will definitely need cuatro strings and you will get a spectacular sound. The way to quickly check intonation on a ukulele is to tune it, and then fret the string at the 12th fret and play it. The note you hear should be exactly one octave higher than the open string. If it is sharp or flat from the open note, the intonation is off. Intonation on this uke is perfect. I will definitely buy another one.

I have only had this Horse Baritone ukulele for a few days, but here are my thoughts and findings so far. I have some musical knowledge and, for the price, this is a good little instrument. There are a few small negatives, but first the plus points. Its design is simple but attractive, the wood is pleasing to look at, the finish is good all over, and it came with no dents, scratches, or other marks. There is a nice bright strap with it. It possibly needn't be as wide as it is as the instrument is not big or heavy, but I like it fine. It's easy to attach and adjust. It's comfortable in use and doesn't get in the way of your hands. The notes are true and produce good octaves at the 12th fret. The tone is really nice. The action height can be adjusted via a nut inside the base of the neck using the metal tool provided. The carry bag is padded for protection and pleasing to look at. The front pocket contains an easy to apply capo, should you need it, a couple of plectrums, spare nylon strings. The gear mechanisms for tuning the strings seem to be if reasonable quality and are neatly mounted. There was a small dessicant pack inside the body, so watch out for dropping that if you have pets or small children. On the negative side, this is not strung as a baritone DGBE, but as the other ukes of the family GCEA. I was prepared for this as I had read it in other reviews. I thought it may have been rectified but, if it turned out that it hadn't been, I was prepared to buy new strings for it as it would probably have low quality strings fitted, which don't give the best sound possible It came with spare strings, which might be baritone ones but aren’t labelled. I bought new higher quality strings anyway. The D and G are wound with metal. Right out of the box I was able to play as BD and E were tunable on the fitted strings and I tuned the other one to D an octave up from where it should be. It was OK to get started but new strings came the next day and I fitted them following a YouTube 'how to' video. The sound is much nicer with the new strings and with a plectrum is quite loud ( I don't usually use one). I have previously played guitar but my fingers don't cope with left hand. I hadn't played for years. Then I read of someone buying this for the same reason. There's couple of chords tried so far that are still a little tricky for me, but most of them are fine, and this was a great way to enjoy playing again. There are lots of free resources and videos on the Internet, and it's easy to make pleasing music very quickly. It's also less cumbersome to transport than a guitar. I am pleased with this purchase, so I hope it continues to impress as time goes on.
