I bought 2 and they had the same fabrics but I couldn’t say if that’s how it necessarily goes

Why does it look thicker when it’s extremely thin?

I don't no why it is a lot thinner than advertised on amazon like you I was shocked and I think that is so wrong when they advised one thing and give you sub standard product and I think amazon should examine the products before they decide to do business with the company I still have not used my so sorry that you were deceived like me

Can l use it to sew a shirt for myself?

No the pieces are much too small for making a shirt 10"x10"

Can I make aprons for kids with this?

If you sew some of the together you can make anything you like. The squares are 10 inches by 10 inches so one square would make a very small apron.
