Just love my Hirbawi scarf. Beautiful and well worth it.
I'm grateful to Hirbawi Co. They offer both traditional and fashion based colored scarfs. This is my 5+ order and I've always been pleased. I've had some for several years and they have held up. They are great to keep warm as sun protection, I use them even in the rain as they do pretty well and dry fast. I've used them as a scarf or head covering. Great when it's windy they can cover your face, head, neck and keep you protected. if you are sensitive to wind Hirbawi is a great choice as it's true to size. They hold up well, I wash and line dry, but have used a laundry/lingerie bag to wash on occasion. The dry very quickly. The pictures are very close representations. Some styles have a thicker weave. The "Um Suleiman" I purchased and shown here has a nice traditional stitching. I'm very happy with this purchase and they ship quickly. I also like supporting a original/local company in the Middle East knowing I'm helping to keep a traditional business going.

Head & Shoulders Above the Rest!
I have several shemagh and this scarf is easily the best one I have found. Thickness and softness are crucial in a good shemagh and this one is twice the quality of any other I have found. The size alone is grander and more easily wrapped and positioned on the head or neck. The overall quality of the material is outstanding, due to the higher thread count I'm assuming, and the warmth and comfort is unmatched. My other shemagh that I have loved for years, now seem scratchy and cheap. I don't know the manufacturer, I don't work for the company, and I am completely impartial in my review. I only wish I had found this Shemagh before I had bought my others, which will soon be replaced by this brand. More expensive? Yes, by about twice the amount of some of the others that are offered, but worth every single penny! I plan on enjoying this product for years to come... Highly Recommend!

Superb quality!
If you are thinking of purchasing a kufiya, seriously consider the best made. Upon receipt of this I washed in cold water, mild detergent, and hung up to dry. The quality is outstanding!. Cloth is quality, color, stitching, cut is perfect. No cutting corners on this product. Save yourself a big headache. Spend a few dollars more and get quality that will not bleed color over your other clothing or fall apart after several uses. BTW, I researched Mr. Hirbawi and his efforts to keep this business going in the midst of a sea of shoddy substitutes. I commend his efforts and that of his business to succeed. Update 3/15/17 - I have used my olive green/black everyday since I did the initial cold wash. I have gotten so much variety of use that the standard rectangular scarf I have had for years is now in the back of the closet. Great for walking the dog when the cold and wind are so penetrating. This is my first Keffiyeh from Hirbawi. I now have a second Keffiyeh in solid black. Black one is very fine cloth and is delicate in weave, design and appearance. Plan to order a third black and tan color for storage in my Jeep as I keep continuing to find more and more utility of the unique blend & material.

High quality - just what I was looking for
Disclosure: I have no association with the seller nor did I receive any price breaks to entice purchasing the product. Note that I am an Amazon Prime member (preferential shipping) 1) This Shemagh was expensive (+$25) compared to others I have purchased (~$11). 2) Excellent material: I would estimate the weave was roughly 20 threads/in compared to 10 threads/in of the cheaper one. I do not have enough experience with Shemagh's to know whether the heavier, sturdier material is desired for hot weather (for cold weather, without thinking I would select the Hirbawi product), but the Hirbawi is certainly more robust than the cheaper one. I consider the cheaper one more of a disposable product and the Hirbawi more robust for long term use. 3) Nearly odor free, but just a hint. The cheaper one had a very strong odor that I attribute to the dye. 4) I hand washed the cheaper one in cold water (no soap). Round 1, the water was pitch black. Round 2, the water was dark black. Round 3, the water was still black, maybe dark gray. I stopped rinsing. With the Hirbawi scarf, there was only a very faint *hint* of blue so I only rinsed once. 5) The Hirbawi scarf is a legitimate 44"x44", and with very slight tugging, it is more like 46"x46" or larger (unlike the cheaper one which claimed to be 42"x42" but I would say it is more like 40"x40". The extra 4" is a significant difference when it comes to using it for protection from the sun (shawl to protect back of the neck and brim to keep sun out of eyes). 6) Finally, I ordered on Wednesday and received it on Friday (I love Amazon Prime) While the Hirbawi carries a price premium (you can purchase 2 of the cheaper ones and walk away with some change), the quality level is unmistakably higher. In the end, I recommend both the product and the company (and Amazon Prime shipping).

Wonderful material
While I had to return the item that I ordered in part bc of a weaving error, the item itself has great promise bc of the materials used. I have ordered another Hirbawi as a replacement. So far I have ordered 2 Chinese and 2 Palestinian Keffiyehs and the Hirbawi clearly stands out. The Chinese ones are bangers I bought to be beat up riding the motorcycle or hunting in the brush. The Hirbawi, while the most expensive, is also the nicest. I bought a Keffiyeh in the early '80s while in Israel and remember it being thick and soft, suitable for colder climates. This Hirbawi shawl is more like silk in terms of its thickness and thus would appreciate a more gentle handling to keep its looks. But, it is extraordinarily warm and keeps the wind out.

What can I say? Not enough, it's too good.
100% cotton. Soft. Handmade. Supports artisans in their field who are fighting against forgeries(seriously, go on Etsy and see how many are labeled "Hirbawi" when they aren't, even other sellers on Amazon.) This is legit, matches the styles and colors of the official Hirbawi site, stock generally matches Amazon here as well. I own several shemagh's and THIS one is the best. Others may have richer colors but that's because they're in artificial fibers. If you want functional and soft, then you want a Hirbawi. Black and Gray: Image seems true to product. Mar Elias: The Yellow is actually quite a rich yellow, but the wave color is actually BLUE! Like, really really blue. It's this beautiful almost baby blue. Unexpected from what I saw in the image, but it was a happy surprise. There are tassles on 2 corners. Alquds: Fairly accurate to image though instead of the yellow/brownish sort of color that it appears to me, the actual product's wave color is closer to a gold. Unexpected again but it meant it exceeded expectations.

Beautiful, Soft and Comfortable
What a beautiful and comfortable scarf! The colors, stitching and the FEEL are breathtaking—truly a work of art, and hands-down the MOST comfortable and soft scarf I've ever seen. From the first moment you can feel and tell this is an authentic cultural experience that cannot be mistaken or easily forgotten. My old one has lasted over 20 years and it's still in great condition, and this beautiful coffee version is now rarely going to leave my side. Get one and you will never want to take it off! Thank you to the Hirbawi team for making these authentic cultural pieces available to the world, their hard work and dedication is evident in the quality and beauty of each and every shemagh leaving the factory.

Best quality available today...
I have several Kufeyah/Shemagh/Keffeyeh/hatta. Some I have had for a while, but lately, in the depths of the whole COVID-19 thing, I have been adding to my collection with some from Amazon, and reviews of those are elsewhere (Free Soldier Shemagh - Black and White set amongst others) Although facemasks make little difference - akin to using a sock as a condom. I deal with the public as a keyworker (Roadside Breakdown and Recovery) so occasionally have to use a face covering to soothe any fears that people I interact with may have. A Kufeyah is a good option (As are bandanas but not as warm) The ones I already have are made in China/India, and are actually pretty good FOR THE MONEY. Obviously price plays into any consideration, and for what I paid, I consider them good quality, worthy of their positive rating, and are still in rotation, along with 2 that I have had for over ten years (which are getting a bit tatty, but still fulfill their function and actually still look good.) Although a Kufeyah is a mostly functional item, which has evolved over many years to protect the wearer from harsh conditions in that part of the world. They have become a clothing staple, and synonymous with middle eastern fashion, and adopted by the rest of the world as a stylish and infinitely practical accessory. Including the military/tactical set. But ultimately the practicality is foremost. The Damask weaving technique is used because it increases the air trapping, comfort and sand filtering qualities while limiting the weight, which means you will always have the occasional thread pull, the odd bit of unraveling and a few imperfections. This will age the garment over the years, developing a character of its own. However, the ones I have had for a decade are still going, and these should last even longer. If you seek a pristine visual appearance, you would be better off with a Gucci shawl or a standard scarf I have included some images to show the differences between this genuine Hirbawi, and one of my others that I consider good quality. You’ll notice that the size difference. The Hirbawi is approx 60 mm or 2.5 inches larger all round, and measures the stated 47 inches. This allows for greater flexibility in wearing options. As you’ll see, the thread count is a little finer, and the embroidery is of a slightly better standard. Importantly, the tasseled edges are finished in a completely different fashion. Instead of gathering up a certain number of the loose threads from the weave, and knotting them at regular intervals. The Hirbawi has folded and overlocked edges, which then have a pre embroidered edging strip, with integrated tassels sewn on. This makes the edges almost indestructable and leads me to believe that this will have a very long life (the edges are where my old ones are failing) What the images dont show is just how soft the Hirbawi is, and how comfortable it is to wear and how nicely it drapes. As this is the genuine article, developed and manufactured for locals to fulfill a function, comfort would be high on the list of priorities, and the choice of cotton, and method of manufacture are all important. You just don’t get the same attention to detail and product knowledge on a copy made to look a certain way. Wash separately by hand till there is no further dye run off. I usually wash my shemaghs on a standard 40 degree wash having placed them in a mesh bag (the 25p produce bags you can find in the veg dept at Aldi are perfect) My other Shemaghs have survived this just fine. Initial new smell is similar to a new tent reminding me of past camping outings and certainly not offensive. These are, without doubt, superior items. The size, the look, the feel, the comfort and the colours are all better. This is reflected in the price, which is a bit steep. But the price will soon be forgotten, and considering the added benefits I’ve talked about is worth the extra IMO. Political considerations aside. I am glad that I purchased this Kufeyah. My decision was guided mainly by the fact that the manufacturer is an independant family concern. Human beings that actually make a product, superior to anything else I’ve managed to find with generations of experience to boot, so it’s a win-win. I’m already deciding which one I’ll be getting next. I’ll update this review over time. But I already think I’m going to be happy with them all...
