Proper Installation of Kable Kontrol Heat Shrink Tape - 1" Inch Wide
I had a leaking kitchen, 1-1/4" Cu drainpipe, located in a tight, wood floor joist area (picture). I am familiar with Heat Shrink materials, and I choose to use the 1" Heat Shrink tape for repairs. Several reviews I read were critical of this tape (flexibility and wrapping difficulty). What I found was the 1" tape, being about 1/32"+ thick, wrapped but not as tightly as I thought it should due to its thickness. Starting and ending the tape wrap seemed difficult (holding the tape in place during the wrap process) until I used electrical tape on the heat shrink tape ends to secure the tape. I started the wrap about 2" away from the critical area of the leak and ended the wrap about 1" from the critical area. The tape has about a 2 to 1 shrink ratio, so I did not have to have the tape tight, just snug and fairly flat to the work surface. On one side of the tape is a shiny glue compound (See Picture). It does not become sticky and gluey until heat is applied to the tape. On heating the tape via Heat Gun, the heat shrink tape shrunk tightly to the pipe and itself, and the glue on the tape became soft and squeezed out the edges of the tape sealing the tape to itself and the pipe. Be sure to heat from the center of the wrap to the ends of the wrap. The end product was a tight patch resolving my leaking pipe problem. I tried several other ways to solve the leak, and this one ended up being the most simple and effective method. I did not use a torch in fear of starting a fire in my walls. Hope this helps you!

Too stiff, unwinds from smaller projects.
I really wanted to like this product, but it is unusually unless you are working on VERY LARGE cables. If you're looking to fix anything smaller than say, the main electric line into your home, I would skip this one. Shrinkage is mid tier, but the adhesive ONLY activates with heat and it is SO THICK that it WILL NOT hold its shape in the way you set it. It constantly tries to unwind itself to the point that even once the adhesive melts enough to stick, unless a VERY BROAD area it heated and touching the surface beneath, both the shrinkage and stiffness of the tape will cause it to immediately unwind itself from the cable. If it had another adhesive that is NOT heat activated, it might work, but as it is, I wouldn't recommend it unless you're repairing very large cables and have a BIG heat gun to heat it very widely and evenly. If I hadn't already used a bunch of it trying to get it to work id probably ask for a refund

Not for small wires
Maybe I should have known better, but this is a very thick and stiff tape that will not wrap around the small wires of a vehicles engine comparment I was trying to seal - like battery cables and engine wiring with damaged insulation that a traditional heat shrink tube will not slide onto. I'm sure whoever knows what this is used for may think its great - I assume for large wires or high voltage installations.

Disappointed
First of all, there's nothing really wrong with the product. It does what it is intended to do. However, it is thick and not very supple so it is very difficult to wrap tightly and keep in place long enough for you to heat the item for a good seal, especially if you have a thinner item you are trying to seal. Additionally, it doesn't really seal well when you use a flame source like a lighter. A heat gun is a much better option or possibly a small blow torch. The inconsistent flame of a lighter is really impractical, in my opinion. I was disappointed in the performance for my specific project which was attempting to seal a knick in a cable line.

Perfect for certain applications
I just recently discovered this product. I was familiar with shrink tubing but what if you can't slide it over an end or what if you have a cable to cover or a 3 way connection? This product is perfect for those types of applications.

Worthless
Almost worthless! Tape is too thick to wrap around wiring and adhesive does not stick until you apply heat to it.

This tape is heavy
This tape is heavier than i expected. I was taping headset wires so this is overkill. The tape has a glue backing that held in place while i heated and secured it in place. It was a bit difficult because the wire were so small. A great product for large projects. It works have been nice to understand how heavy this tape is so some level of measure in the product description would be appreciated.

Worst stuff I ever bought
This is the worst product I have ever had the misfortune to buy. The idea sounded good. A kind of electrical tape that then could be heated and have it shrink and bond to itself. The price seemed right as well. I expected something that you could wrap around a wire bundle like standard electrical tape and have it stick to the wire at least to some degree, and then heat it up to really bond it and shrink it. The reality is quite different. This stuff is stiff as cardboard. It does not stick to anything. It does not stick to itself. It can't be applied to anything it any way I can figure out. It does have heat activated adhesive and it will shrink a bit but I can't figure out how to use it. If you wrap this around a 1 inch bundle of wire, for instance, you have to hold one end against the bundle or use a clamp to do so while winding it around the bundle. Its very springy and will not stay where you have wrapped it unless you hold it there. If you let go of it it will literally act like a spring and unravel and fall from the bundle. If you find a way to hold this stuff on the bundle then you can try heating it to activate the adhesive but then it shrinks, its hot and now sticky. It must be held while cooling to keep it in place. Not recommended.

Quality along with value
This product seems to have a good heat activated adhesive lined shrink wrapping. It is thicker then I had expected which is great surprise on a durability view. It's a great product only thing for first time buyers It's a bit tricky to work with if you're not doing a larger area. But it works great after you find the trick to hold it in position and Heating it without over heating or burning yourself I believe it will last and protect the area for a very long time. I will be purchasing more in the future.
