Does this really work with mashing potatoes ?

It works well for making mashed potatoes, but they won't be perfectly smooth, like a mill or mixer. I use this whenever I want quick mashed potatoes - just boil, drain, mash in the pot, and serve from the pot. So, it depends: not good for smooth mashed potatoes, but great for the way I like them with different textures.

How does it work with cast iron skillets?

I use mine with my cast iron all the time, works like a charm, never had any issues.

It is 10 3/4in long. Seriously, this thing has been a life changer with any ground meat but especially with pork sausage or meats that tend to move around a lot and harder to break apart.

I personally think it is worth it. It is great for scrambling hamburger. I have used it to stir some foods when making or cooking such as batters, soups, and casseroles.
